i would think poveda would win this in (close) to a landslide

for me the next 6 are going to be tough btwn
kennil gomez
telis
profar
sardinas
smith
edwin escobar
madrigal

its fairly interesting that (at least in our CPP) that one of the 1.5 mil bonus guys may not make the top 25 (well probably wont) but i think sardinas is going to be one o fmy next 3 guys

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Went Poveda, then going Hurley

and then going Edwin Escobar.

You are obsessed with bodily wastes A turd being held under my nose, this team being a steaming pile, Jonny Donuts having a stinky diaper, the front office pissing themselves, the team crapping the bed…

I think you should seek counselling.

i just have a hard time voting for him here

without knowing, for sure, what his injury was. if it was minor labrum surgery (a fray), tahts one thing. if it was a SLAP tear…thats another

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Its funny you mention it

I was in DC a couple years ago, and I went to a Nats game just to see decrepit old RFK before it got retired. I wore this shirt to the game, and I ran into someone else there wearing it as well. We got a good laugh out of it.

Madrigal
Kirkman
Fabio
Gomez
Pimental

upon further review - position players Telis and Tim Smith

probably need to be mixed in there somewhere.

Also, a plug for Strop here. I’ve heard (or seen) Trip, Jason Cole, and Jason Parks speak glowingly of Strop and the progress he is making recently. Maybe one of them (or anybody else) could give some insight on this guy? His last 6 outings (9.2 ip) have been scoreless with 6 hits, 4 bb, and 9k. The word on the street, is that once he “gets it” he will move in short order and be one of the liveliest arms in the ML pen.

strop

Definitely needs to be on here to vote on, arguments could be made that he should be one of the next few voted to the rankings.

I have no problem adding him again if there’s support, though.

Omar for me

Say, Dirk… shouldn’t Geuris Grullon be on the list soon? Maybe Edwin Escobar too?

They’re both extremely young and raw, but after watching JParks, MJH and JCole fawn over him in their roundtable chat, it seems like they should be on here over a lot of the current fillers up there.

Richard Bleier
Manny Pina
Corey Young
Braden Tullis
Lil’ Lemon
Tommy Mendonca
Carlos Melo

I’ll second Tricer’s Strop request.

Bleier and Mendonca

won’t get thoughts from me until the 30s, just too much talent ahead of them. Mendonca hasn’t impressed so far with his transition to pro ball, too many K’s.

Why not?

We have 16 year old latin children on the list that we know next to nothing about. I think a 4th round draft pick from this year that was a great pitcher for a Big 12 college program at least could make the list. He seems to be doing okay for Spokane in the 3 innings that he has pitched in relief.

Honestly I kind of just put his name up there as a joke but it was a reply to Jon’s list of guys who could conceivably be in the 20’s and I think he has just as good of a shot as Mendonca.

It is a great thing to know the season for speech and the season for silence.

Geuris, right now, has little argument to be a top-30 prospect in this system

I love Geuris like no heterosexual man should love a young Latin lefty, but he’s currently pitching in relief at Spokane. Thompson and Tullis deserve to be on the poll before Geuris, as they are both promising prospects in their own right AND they’re starting. I would rank Geuris in the 30-35 range, which is where Hindman ranked him recently. If Geuris were starting, I would have him 10 spots higher, but at the moment he has a LOT of potential but hasn’t yet shown it consistently on the mound.

In my mind, Geuris has just as much upside as Purke. But he is raw raw raw. Once he gains a bit of polish, he could very well be a top-10 prospect for us, and I believe he will. But it will take more time. He’s teetering on the edge of the top-30 right now based almost entirely on potential, so he’s definitely worth waiting on.

I don't understand the Hurley love

he was ok when healthy, now he has to come back from a near death sentence in terms of baseball injuries.

Hurley isn’t top 30 unless he proves he can do it again (or actually better than he did before), much like Diamond who has failed mightily after TJ surgery.

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

Add to list...

Can you add Pedro Strop to the list? Assuming that Omar Poveda gets voted on here, Strop and Warner Madrigal, in some order, are the next two for me from the remaining list.

Just for fun

Any LA prospect gurus here want to rank just the LA prospects in the system? Once we get past Perez, Font, etc., I don’t know much about these guys and how they compare to each other.

And who do you mean by that? You didn’t specify

will go with Madrigal then Gomez.

reviewing the list

one thing is really glaring to me, we need to develop some position players, maybe we should be sellers this trade deadline, and try to add some higher level position players

by blueballlefty on Jul 23, 2009 2:36 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I think we're fine positional wise

The majority of our ML positional players are young and under team control for several years. The only true position I think we are weak in is 3B and if Whittleman keeps up his torrid pace that would make that argument go away.

If we were an aging veteran heavy team then I would agree with your assessment but I think we are fine as is right now.

Poveda goes here

id like to have seen him go ahead of Boscan, but this is a fair enough spot for him… The amazing thing is, i actually feel pretty good about Poveda’s chances of one day being an effective big league starter. Thats pretty awesome when you are talking about the #19 guy in your system who is already really close to reaching the bigs
