OT: Houston Texans latest to admit Sharky is right

So I got this football magazine, and it mentions this about the Texans.

"In the last week of last season, Kubiak turned over the playcalling to to offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan for the first time. An offense that had been one of the leagues worst in the red zone was four-of -four inside Chicago's 20, including three touchdowns in in a 31-24 victory. The playcalling is Shanahan's baby now"

I tell you, I'm shocked, shocked, the Texans would hire yet another young go-getter non-minority offensive coordinator (the first being Kubiak himself), and then turn the reigns over to him.

I mean, why would it hurt to leave Kubiak the playcaller? I mean that stuff doesnt matter right? It's all about the draft, isn't it?

Lol.

Sharky right again. Texans prove it with actions, not words.

Maybe the Texans will be worth a crap this season. In fact probably will. Then AJM can talk about how great their drafts have been, and how Jerry Jones is screwing up the Cowboys because of his terrible drafts..and pretend this whole offensive coordinator change meant nothing.

Sharky

You’ve been gone for quite a while.

man

this was a pretty badass sharky rant.

i think you’re much palatable now that you have stopped paying attention to baseball.

What depth of knowledge

Anyone casually tuning in to sports news could get that much.

Nothing I've said

in this thread was typed while scowling or mumbling, I think Sharky is amusingly harmless.

But I'll try some baseball

Hey Sharky – the Astros are playing well again and they’re on the front page of espn.com. Isn’t that weird?

I know

I was considering making the patented “Astros in 5th place in division, still world series favorites” post a while back.

Of course now theyve already made their annual climb in the standings, so it wouldnt have much effect.

So...

Aren’t we obligated to rec this up or something? Because there’s almost zero difference between this and a Miles post.

yeah

He’s like a groundhog coming out. If he sees his shadow and goes back into hiding, the Rangers contention will last for another 6 weeks (conveniently into September – yay!). If he doesn’t and comes out for good, it may spell the end of the 2009 Rangers.

A lot hinges on where Sharky goes from here.

Go Rice Owls!

So,this season depends on whether or not Sharky "Comes out"...

My money says he stays in the closet. :-)

Also

miles is just a run of the mill knucklehead trying to make a nuisance of himself, while Shark was a legitimate paranoid schizophrenic who always had the potential for a complete meltdown right on the ESPN board.

The Texans will still not make the playoffs

because they have a secondary that includes Jacques Reeves as a starter.

Peyton Manning should have about 25 completions to Reggie Wayne this year against the Texans.

Did they?

Do you conisder the 3rd corner a starter?

by tyd3311 on Jul 23, 2009 12:50 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

the AFC is much tougher now than the NFC was then

plus none of the other QBs in our division were good enough to pick on him consistently with any moderate level of success.

NE, IND, SD, and PIT are all making the playoffs for sure.

I don’t think Houston finishes in the Top 2 among the Bills, Dolphins, Ravens, Titans, and Broncos.

I'm not too confident about San Diego

I actually like the Chargers (closest think I have to a football team I cheer for), but they aren’t particularly well run and it is hard to have any confidence in Philip Rivers. Their success may hinge on whether Tomlinson can be healthy this season, which is a shaky proposition given his age (which hurts me to say, since we were in college at the same time).

Go Rice Owls!

by JBImaknee on Jul 23, 2009 2:29 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

i just think the rest of that division isn't really special.

I’d put SD ahead of Denver and KC still.

yeah

especially with Cutler out of it, that division is far from special. Might give the ’98 NFC East or the AFC West a run for the worst division of recent memory.

Any time you pay

Jacques Reeves as much as the Texans’ GM did and then make him a starter, there is no way you should be in the NFL.

At least the Texans did one thing right

Draft Mario Williams over Reggie Bush

You are obsessed with bodily wastes A turd being held under my nose, this team being a steaming pile, Jonny Donuts having a stinky diaper, the front office pissing themselves, the team crapping the bed…

I think you should seek counselling.

And Ryans.

They had a good draft this year, too.

by brettgardner on Jul 24, 2009 7:45 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

A lot depends on

Schaub’s health, I guess. Although I think they did themselves a lot of good by getting Grossman and Orlovsky just in case.

If their defense could improve to just average, though, you’d probably be right.

by brettgardner on Jul 24, 2009 8:14 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Do you people never learn

If they win, it’s not going to have anything to do with the draft. I have a bad feeling they probably will be pretty good, but that will be due to Shanahan.

Kubiak was always pretty mediocre and holding them back, thats why they were 8-8 all the time, and thats why he’s not calling plays anymore.

Kubiak was never very good as an OC in Denver, either. He has a track record. He’s not horrible, he’s 8-8.

Shanahan has no track record, but he’s young, and his dad was pretty good, and if he was successful in limited action last year well, all signs point that way, but we’ll see.

They also bypassed

that nutjob, Vince Young, thank God.

I overestimated Vince's mental toughness big time.

What a disappointment, the biggest being his reaction to being benched.

that was a different GM

The guy who drafted Mario, Charley Casserly, is over at CBS.

KG: Oh yeah.

I think he might be referring to Pres. Obama throwing that Mass cop under the bus..

Called the arrest stupid, while admitting he didn’t know any of the details.

But maybe he means something else. I guess I dunno.

Sharky

It is nostalgia. Back in 2000, he would make 5 or 6 ranting, repetitive posts in a row, at like 4 a.m., on the ESPN Rangers board.

Damn, was it 2000??

Wow, 9 years ago??

Amazing.

Well, I worked overnights (still do) so if I was posting at 4AM, it was because I would get off work at 2 AM..

Juan Gonzalez is probably my favorite athlete of any sport, ever.

It’s interesting, I’m not sure why I’m bringing it up, but that ESPN radio guy, Colin Cowherd, says that Troy Aikman’s Dallas Cowboys were the last pro sports team he loved.

I can really emphasize with that, for some reason.
