Inside Corner - Interview with Tommy Hunter
Hey kids! It's time again for another video from Evan Grant of D Magazine's Inside Corner. Today, we talk with everyone's newest favorite Ranger pitcher Tommy Hunter whose outing Tuesday night against the Red Sox was a touch more successful than his outing last year in Boston.
He also talks about the hours, and hours, and hours he spent in OKC developing his cutter which he has used quite effectively since being called back to the Big Club.
And as always, please let the fine folks at D Magazine that you enjoy these player videos and would like to see more. (If you don't, let's just keep those opinions to ourselves shall we?)

Cut fastball, 2-seam, 4-seam fastball
What is the difference among these?

I'll give it a try
cut FB – Mariano Rivera’s specialty. The ball will move right to left with little sink.
2 seam – Also called a sinker. The ball in thrown with less velocity than a 4 seamer, has some sinking action and maybe some horizontal movement also.
4 seam – Hardest thrown pitch velocity wise, may have some left to right tailing action to it.
These are just some general descriptions. Each pitcher has a little different action to thier pitches. For example, it looked like Hunter’s cut FB also had a little sink to it making it look like a hard slider.

Someone
had a link to a blog post (BBTiA maybe?) a while back with pretty thorough descriptions of the spin, velocity and movements of several different pitch types. Anyone remember this?
Purgatory's kind of like the in-betweeny one. You weren't really shit, but you weren't all that great either. Like Tottenham.
I think it was this...?

Dug that up a week or so ago…they’re not really addressing these other pitches.

Cutter is in between a 2-seam and a slider.
It’s almost a slider grip but a fastball release is used rather than trying to spin it.
