Angels
Yet again and a second half run while the Rangers string off multiple wins only to see the Angels copy.
Haven't we seen this before? The last couple of years when the Rangers were still in the race with the Angels, the Rangers go on a nice win streak or win like 8 of 10 or something to that effect only to see the Angels match it or better and the Rangers lose ground regardless. I'm sure many Rangers fans out there share my frustration on this. The only difference this time around is that the Rangers hold a nice 9-2 record against the Angels and an 18-8 record vs. the West. I say if they Rangers can continue this streak and if the Angels could perhaps have a loosing spell or two by the end of the year, I say it would be a good possibility that they Rangers can take the West. The Wild card is still within reach with only the Red Sox 2.5 games currently ahead of them.
What doesn't help the Rangers is when they play a team like the Red Sox, they Angels are playing Kansas City. One key spot coming up in the schedule is August 4-6 when the Rangers play the @A's and Angels play @White Sox. The Rangers might be able to gain ground then. Other the head to head and division play, the Rangers tend to play teams that are stronger then the teams the Angels play. Call it bad luck or no luck but that's the way the cards were delt for this years schedule.
I say they injury but would be nice right now for the Angels since the Rangers had to go through the Flu bug and are currently 5-5 in their last 10 games.

Angels playing bad teams?
It may seem like that but I seem to remember them sweeping the Yankees while the Rangers were losing 3 of 4 from the Mariners.
Yep
The Skankees did us no favors in that series.

I am beginning to think...
that the Yankees exist solely to torment Rangers Fans. They can’t win the WS anymore… just find creative ways to keep the Rangers out of it.
Angels arent that good
i promise, i know it looks like they are, but they arent. Just give it time. This Angel’s team is worse than any of the ones they’ve had in the last few years, their luck and crazy good offense is going to calm down. And meanwhile, our offense is actually going to hit at least somewhere near league average (which it hasnt done in a while) and this thing is going to be really close at the end of the season…
I promise

No matter what happens
it has been, is, and should continue to be a great year. I didn’t think this season was gonna be as good as it has been and come September, it’s going to be intense, and for once in such a long time FUN being a Rangers fan.
lets make it through august before we can be sure september will be filled with meaningful games
we are still 3 games back

speed and batting average dont go into slumps, home runs do
that’s why angels > rangers
(sorry i couldnt resist)
batting avg doesn't go into slumps?
Isn’t a declining BA the definition of a slump?

sure but it
doesn’t automatically mean you’re going to go on a loosing spell!

uh, this is stupid
their high BA is exactly why i think they will go into a slump, they wont keep it up… and uh, we are stealing alot of bases, but we go in slumps, so??

Angels lead the league
in BABIP, while we are near the bottom. I think they are a good team, but I think they have been playing much better than they really are, and I dont buy that it has something to do with sciosia or avenging adenhart’s death or anything, i think theyve just gone on a lucky streak from which they will eventually start to regress.
by Smoakin in the Boys Room on Jul 23, 2009 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions
this is exactly my reasoning
they are getting way more base hits then they should, their team BABIP is going down
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
maybe they are just
playing teams with a shitty defense. :)

And talk about getting squeezed
It seems like Baker can’t get a strike call no matter where he puts the ball.

someone in the OF was actually doing the 'wings'
I was at the game and my bro saw it happen

Though they were extraordinarily lucky
part of it is skill. How many guys on the Rangers could have done that AB Abreu just pulled off.

Funny story
in the 4th inning or so, there was a popup to the Angels booth. The Angels broadcast cut to Rex Hudler holding the ball, pretending that he caught it in that self congratulatory tone.
On the Twins broadcast, the PBP man immediately points out how Hudler, in fact, did not catch the ball. ANd used a ball that he keeps on his desk instead to make ppl think that he caught the ball.
Bert Blyleven’s response? – “Yeah, that’s vintage Rex Hudler”.

my question...
Should a team with a terrible bullpen NEVER come from behind. It makes no sense
Angels should double steal here
Worst case scenario is abreau takes second and they still have a shot
Whatever
