Our man Z is over at the DMN blog this morning with a good, detailed post breaking down the guys that the Rangers have that could be pieces in a deal, and what sort of value the pieces represent.

Well
You couldn’t sell higher. This isn’t a dominant missing-bats pitcher.

For me, the trades never bring enough return. The established players you get always have a contract that I don’t like. So, why bother?
I still say, throw 75-100 arms against the wall and see who sticks. Develop internally. Hunter is sticking so far. And if we need someone else, we should trade a Vet and get 3 back.
the thing is
sure, he was a college pitcher and expected to rise fast – but he rose even faster than anybody expected. If we had Holland, Feliz, etc. up here for a few starts to close out one year, which went up and down, and then the following year had them up putting together the kind of starts Hunter is, we’d be calling them the first true ace we’ve had in a while.
I don’t expect Tom to keep this up, or to be a true ace…but jeez, you’ve got to admire what he’s been doing more than “this isn’t a dominant missing-bats pitcher.” Give the guy some praise. And we could sell higher – if he keeps this up until the end of the year. And I think it’s reasonable to expect him to go out and keep performing as he has been, with maybe a full run drop in ERA due to a few of those hits falling where they didn’t in the past couple of weeks…

I kinda
doubt the PED thing. He has been a monster since he was 17
You are obsessed with bodily wastes A turd being held under my nose, this team being a steaming pile, Jonny Donuts having a stinky diaper, the front office pissing themselves, the team crapping the bed…
I think you should seek counselling.

He is a very big man. Based on the two books I (mostly) read over the last year, there seems to be two types of power hitter in the MLB – those that use PED’s and those that use PED’s less NOW than they used to.
So, it’s not personal as much as epidemic. His power numbers have slipped some since the rules tightened up.
I'd go with two points
1) Rockies ballpark vs. A’s ballpark sure hurt
2) He also just simply slumped to start the year. Some said he just didn’t look like he wanted to be there.
Take out his April, and he’s a .300/.400/.500 hitter, which is pretty damn good.
