What shall I do with the rest of my evening now?
Maybe I’ll watch some awful disaster movies.
That might remind me too much of this offense right now, though.

Good thing we have the best hitting coach in baseball or that really could have gotten ugly.
I say we need to sign someone like Bobby Abreu
rather than roll with a lineup of hitters all with the same skill.

I'd hoped maybe their hitting coach has as much to do with the lucky bloop singles as ours has to do with swinging for the fences every time
Rudy doesn't do approach
he does mechanics.
I do wonder, though, if perhaps they won’t pick up his contract at the end of the year.

If they don't
Any thoughts on who might replace him?
"After intense analysis, I have come to the conclusion that Neftali Feliz throws fucking hard." - John Sickels
probably someone within the organization
Scott Coolbaughn, maybe? He’s a guy who’s worked with Andrus a lot, and has spent this year working with Borbon and now Davis and Smoak.

Last year
Coolbaugh was in Frisco, where Max, Davis, Borbon, Vallejo, and Andrus all had great/career years.
This year he’s in OKC where Borbon, and now Davis are hitting.
I’d be perfectly okay with a guy who can coach this young lineup that will probably get even younger next year with Borbon and Smoak with a callup of Moreland for a while too.
or trade for josh willingham
seeing how he’s got alot of the same skills.

Maybe I'm off base here
But I don’t think bringing in one hitter, however patient, will make any difference.

Things are looking pretty bad for Kinsler and Hamilton right now.
Jones and Hank are swinging about as well as they can, but they’re all or nothing.
Actually, I thought the might’ve put Murphy in to pinch hit for Teagarden in the 9th, but Salty was clearly not anywhere near ready to go into the game.

Mickey Hatcher?
He’s got the same “swing at everything” philosophy Rudy preaches.
Not sure what that would accomplish.

at this point
I’m starting to think that “swing at everything” would at least be an improvement over “swing as hard as you can at everything”.
There's more to the picture than meets the eye.
whatever
it was bound to catch up to us one of these days.

Holland Needs to go down
or use him as mop up relief until he learns how to pitch, also tired of everyone saying the offense will take off any day, WHEN!!!
Hamilton was like this pre injury and i don’t think it will get better for him, he looks lost at the plate, and the way it appears to me we do not have any hitting instructors, as far as i tell Rudy is doing Nada, no team that has the talent of these guys slumps this long, there is something wrong somewhere in the system, so many of the pitches Luke threw were right down the middle, they either whiffed or stood and looked at them.
Teagarden is for sure not the answer at catcher and thats a fact, if Salty can’t DL him and bring up Max
Larry Parrish Was Da Man!
I'm proud of everyone
it took 13 posts before the DFA everyone post.
And it was from this douche, so it really shouldn’t even count.

Bye Rudy
from Hindman over at InsideCorner…
I’m now more or less convinced that Rudy Jaramillo has instructed his hitters to expect a 4-seamer on every pitch.
People will blame Derek Holland for this one, but the performance of this lineup — other than Michael Young — was nothing short of embarassing.
Rudy is excellent at swing mechanics. What about the other aspects of his job like scouting reports and approach at the plate? Has Rudy gotten “fat dumb and happy”? Do the hitters need a “different voice” like Maddux did for the pitching staff?

I don't think Mike means that literally.
This team does have a tough time with pitch recognition. They also don’t appear to have a consistent approach at the plate. I thought they had good ABs vs Greinke. Tonight they looked terrible.

Yep
I’m normally calm, even tolerant when things go wacko. For whatever reason, I got a glimpse of the lineup tonight and just shook my head and left to take care of family stuff.
I agree with those here and in the analyst community that say construction of a lineup isn’t an important factor in team wins. But I’m becoming convinced that if a manager’s whim puts black holes at the 3-4-5 spots and a sputtering candle at 6, like tonight, its way more destructive than the leadoff problem. I’m in no position to bitch, but I find it weird and almost unbelievable that Cruz is relegated to the 7 hole, or at best the 6.
What does RW have against NC-17? Or more aptly, where does his faith in AJ, Byrd, or Hammy come from? My ditzy granddaughter could make better contact day after day.

cuz they're veterans, didn't you know?
And obviously all veterans know how to handle themselves at the plate. I’m so tired of Andruw Jones hitting cleanup every time he gets a spot start. How is it that we have a bench player thats good enough to hit cleanup when he gets random starts? What a luxury.
You mean he might be exaggerating?

Well, SMITTY never said hi to me,
But we were in about the same place at the same time. On the other side of the “We Love Chris Davis” sign was a “We Love Derek Holland” sign that I got a picture of. I was standing by that girl the whole time I was behind the dugout.
O’Day saw my “O’Day Likes To Do It Sideways” t-shirt (the one that I had with this game in mind) and said he liked it, so my trip has been a success.

Why didn’t Wash tell TT to walk Burler when the count got to 3-0? Shouldn’t TT have gone out to the mound and told Holland not to give Butler anything to hit?

see, this is what i thought was stupid
of course the Royals top hitter is gonna be looking to hit the ball on a 3-0 count with a guy on 3rd and less than two outs. It made alot more sense to get to the lefty-lefty matchup and try that.

I really thought it would be Newberg calling for Saint Jaramillo to fall on his sword first
so, bravi to MJH for being the first.
At the same time, boo to MJH for hedging his bet a little and changing the title of that post.
Imagine if the Cowboys offense seucked this bad for ten straight games. The call for Jason Garrett to be fired would echo from here to Olympus.
But I’ll put a Newberg Report Night beer on JFE or Galloway or Reeves putting out a ’It’s STILL not Rudy’s fault’ article tommorrow.

"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
Surely, its just angst
that all of you are spouting (including MJH) regarding Rudy’s effect on the Ranger’s hitting. Do we really think that Rudy has done something different (or the same, for that matter) that is causing our offense to tank?
Its entirely possible that some of the long term pieces of our offense may just not able to sustain any level of success over the long term. Have we prematurely decided that the mainstays of our offense are better than they are turning out to be?
I’m not definitely saying that the above statements are the truth, but isn’t it time that we examine this? Honestly, that is not the way I want it to be but its now time to question how good our offense will be long term.
If this turns out to be even partially true, the Rangers may have to do a rewind over the coming months, possibly reworking who some of the long term pieces of the offense will be.
I think Rudy is great
at a certain set of mechanics teaching that is basically irrelevant for this set of players. They need a coach who will teach patience and aid in pitch recognition
Rudy has his talents, but if it isnt working, that is what matters….period

So, did anyone else think this ump decided not to call low strikes.
I was 400 ft away, but that’s how it looked to me.
In a slightly different veing, Holland was working on throwing high strikes in the bullpen, but in the game his high strikes that he tried with 2 strike counts ended up thigh high. Needs a little more work on that.

The Tracker
Has gone into overnight hibernation to rest, from both the assault on its’ frame memory and being ignored. Can’t tell too much on TV due to angle etc but this dude wasn’t even consistent pitch to pitch, much less for an inning or a game.

yes, i was watching and following the tracker and the low strike was almost non-existent early in the game
several pitches well within the zone not called. Derek had one strike out not called on a pitch right down the middle and all the way in the zone.

i was all for not
axing rudy in the middle of a playoff push, but if we fall back to third in the west, i can his ass the next day. and if the veterans have a problem with it, i tell each one of them in a closed door meeting that “just doing your best” isn’t acceptable. and they push it any more, i’d question whether they were satisified with the teams results so far…

I would have to ask them what their priorities are-team winning, or their own stat line. They would be welcome to leave as well.
Never argue with a fool. Onlookers might not be able to tell you apart.
nippert
in the rotation and holland as the 5th – 7th inning guy please, for the rest of this year.
kthnx
You know Holland's awful 6.13 ERA as a 22 year old?
Nippert’s career ERA at 28 is 6.18.
Nippert sucks. If we replace Holland it needs to be with someone likely to actually be better, at least getting Holland experience has some upside.
the preceding post was a great success.
People...
wanting Nippert over Holland baffles me.
