Except for Benson

Looks like a pretty good night to watch.

Gracchus (about Obama): I think he knows what America is. America is the mob. Conjure money for them and they'll be distracted. Take away their freedom and still they'll roar. The beating heart of America is not the paper of the Constitution, it's the power of the media. He'll bring them debt - and they will love him for it.

West

has 28 errors this year.

I know that’s not always an accurate defensive measure, but dear lord that is terrible.

i noticed he has only 6 errors on the year

that seems very low for a SS. Does anyone know if his range is still strong, and if he has been playing all of his games in the field or spending time as a DH? If he has been their full time SS, I would think he is working his value back up now that he has started hitting again.

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

by clark on Jul 27, 2009 10:08 PM CDT up reply actions

i still think he's gonna be a respectable ML hitter who hits about .280-290 with around a .720 OPS

he’s a worthwhile player to have, especially if his arm can be playable at SS.

Just curious

if it was even an option.

I know it has been discussed before, but do you think there is any shot at him starting next year in Frisco, or is it a definite Bakersfield assignment? God, I hate that place.

by Houston27 on Jul 27, 2009 8:47 PM CDT up reply actions

I think

I’d rather see they do with Perez what they did with Neftali and just skip Bakersfield altogether.

by FirebatM3 on Jul 27, 2009 8:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed

I have a feeling they will skip him up to Frisco. Which leads me to wonder what they will do with Main if he comes back fully healthy in the fall.

by Houston27 on Jul 27, 2009 8:52 PM CDT up reply actions

i am hoping

they allow him to spend his last month or so in Bakersfield. A player should be rewarded for the sort of season he has had, and he has nothing left to prove in low A ball. Because of the innings he has piled up, I would like to see him broken into BAK in the bullpen, get about ten innings under his belt, and go into the offseason knowing what he’ll be up against next year.

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

by clark on Jul 27, 2009 10:15 PM CDT up reply actions

from what I understand

being promoted to Bakersfield is no “reward”.

true

it may actually be better to let him close out the year with ten relief innings in Frisco. that would be quite an accomplishment for an 18 year old kid, and would help maintain some momentum going into the offseason.

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

Arias and German

Arias

more speed, already on the 40 man, might have a future with this team, and have made worse facial hair decisions in his life. I think he’d be the better fit.

Jason Parks:
2009 isnt about numbers for Beltre. It’s about development. Is he developing? Yes. Is he developing enough to see that translate to numbers? Obviously not enough for some fans.

2B for the AZ Rangers. Who the heck is he and should he be someone I should keep an eye on? He’s got good numbers so far but a scouting report on him from someone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sickels
**Rangers lefty Martin Perez is just 18 years old, but is doing well in his full-season debut for Hickory in the Sally League, with a 2.36 ERA and a 96/31 K/BB in 88 innings, 76 hits allowed. His walk rate is a bit higher than ideal, but his K/IP and H/IP marks are strong, and he’s living up to pre-season expectations. He’s not a big guy at 6-0, 178, but he gets his fastball past 90 MPH with movement, and has a plus curveball. He’s also got a fairly strong ground ball tendency, and I love the strikeout/ground ball combination. Given his age and slight frame, we need to see how durable he is, etc., but so far things are going well for him and Rangers fans should be pleased with his development.
