Florida AAA 1B/3B/C Gaby Sanchez

It seems he’s friendless in Florida as Cantu is in front of him and Logan Morrison is behind him. He has little positional value as he plays none of those 3 positions well, but he mashes lefties and shows great patience against all pitchers.

note from EG
8:22: There are a lot of reasons to like Tommy Hunter. The way he got the last two outs of the fifth inning have to be among them. Falling down 3-and-0 to Miguel Cabrera to fight back for a strikeout. That does not happen. In fact it’s the first time this year it has happened. It’s happened only three times to Cabrera since the start of last season.

So, apparently, this is what the Blue Jays were asking from the Angels in exchange for Halladay.

Joe Saunders, Erick Aybar, Brandon Wood, + another prospect.

Why didn’t the Angels do it?
Joe Saunders is not as great as everyone thought he was.
Erick Aybar is expendable since they already have Maicer Izturis
Brandon Wood would be very valuable. If only Sciocia would actually play him.

There is no fucking way that is the package they asked for.

I refuse to believe that Ricciardi is stupid enough to ask for that little. That trade would’ve been made a thousand times over if that was all it took from the Angels.

Wood’s value is obviously diminished and he’s out of options at the end of this year, Saunders is fucking 28, not particularly good, and entering his arb years, and Aybar’s OK. The prospect they’d ask for is probably Reckling, who’s a B+ guy. That package is horseshit compared to what they want from Philly (Brown/Drabek/Happ) or what they want from the Dodgers (Kershaw or Kemp +)

much dumber than rookie level LSJ posts.

Much dumber than that random flame war that erupted last year.

Perhaps even dumber than 90% of the Outlaw’s posts. Holy shit, this is perhaps the dumbest thing I have ever read on SBN.

Study skills are a repeatable, predictable skill. The ability to have an unsustainably high BABIP is not. Likewise, the ability to get on base through walks and the ability to hit for power and the ability to hit line drives are generally predictable, repeatable skills. The ability to maintain a high BABIP despite not hitting for linedrives is not. It’s a simple concept.

I somewhat disagree with this philosophy...

I say we offer our best package we are willing to part with, and if it is better talent than what the Angels are willing to give up the Jays would/should take our offer. The only downside for them is from a PR standpoint it sounds better to say you got the top 3 prospects from a team with a sucky farm than it does to say you got the #3, 6, and 9 player from the Rangers, even if the players are equivalent in value. A smart gm shouldn’t worry about that though and just take the best package available.

Some opinions are based on things like facts

and rational analysis of statistics.

Others are based on personal vendettas and contribute very little to the discussion.

For example, I can have the opinion that randyd is a bad poster because he has very little understanding of advanced statistical analysis, and seems to revel in his ignorance rather than actively attempt to learn from it.

This would be an opinion formulated from existing information.

I can also hold the opinion that randyd is actually a creepy old man who gets his jollies by molesting little boys, but this would be less valid of an opinion because I’d be letting my hatred of you color my opinion.

Josey frequently expresses (and I do mean frequently) opinions which are formulated by the latter method. That’s why he’s an awful beating of a poster to read.

dumber than rookie level LSJ posts.

Much dumber than that random flame war that erupted last year.

Perhaps even dumber than 90% of the Outlaw’s posts. Holy shit, this is perhaps the dumbest thing I have ever read on SBN.

skills are a repeatable, predictable skill. The ability to have an unsustainably high BABIP is not. Likewise, the ability to get on base through walks and the ability to hit for power and the ability to hit line drives are generally predictable, repeatable skills. The ability to maintain a high BABIP despite not hitting for linedrives is not. It’s a simple concept.[/B] [/quote]

Blame a reporter for all the problems that have come up, and say it only happened because the guy wants a job in baseball?

And then stumbling through a question asked about the reporter?

“one big call” ????

Off the top of my head I said…

Ichabod McCarthy’s body was rejecting the notion that he could ever be a starter in The Show. Said so after his arm was hurt in March 2008. Is he throwing on flat ground yet?

All thru 2008 I said the team was a fluke and that teams who lead the league in errors almost never finish above .500. Rangers finished the season in 19-29 tailspin which made them 79-83.

Before 2008 almost everybody in here and over at NMLR was saying how Oakland was falling apart and might lose 100 games. I said Oakland would win at least 75 games (they finished season 75-86).

I had the Phillies winning the 2008 World Series (I said Dodgers would win 2009 World Series).

In January 2007 Rangers off-season was terrible and I accused them of having 75 win talent (they finished season 75-87).

Much to the chagrin of LSB, I said hiring Nolan Ryan was the best thing Tom Hicks did in his 10 years of ownership.

Then there was The Great Hank Blalock War of June 2009.

I’ve had my share of misses but more than my share of hits.

"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."

This is low hanging fruit, gardner

On July 1, Blalock goes 3 for 5 v. the Angels with 2 HR’s including a walk-off bomb that effectively ended the Ranger June Swoon.

In the next game he hits a 2 run shot off Kazmir in a 3-1 win.

On July 7&8, once again v LAA, goes 5 for 8 and helps lead the Rangers to two wins after losing the first game of the series.

On July 10 with team trailing 2-0 to M’s hits HR to switch momentum of game (which happened to be the only game of the series Texas won).

On July 12 hits bomb off EBedard to tie a game the Rangers later lost. He plays 1B and can’t control what the bully does.

Led the way in first two wins v. Boston with a pair of 2 RBI games.

Gets two-run, two-out double last night that changed 2-1 lead to 4-1 in game Rangers later won 5-2.

Blalock’s numbers have settled down but he carried the team in July and has played a major part in the team ending the June swoon. Deny it if you want, but it seems fairly pointless.

What you should do is tip your cap and then move forward with your tail tucked snugly in your gash.

A few positives

Rangers record against winning teams: 33-24
Angels record against winning teams: 29-29

Rangers record against AL West: 18-8
Angels record against AL West: 14-17

The Angels have won 22 of their last 30 games and the Rangers are still within easy striking distance, in spite of their inability to hit a baseball.

Rangers pitching is good, especially the bullpen. They match up pretty well against the la la la’s and if they take the division it will probably because they beat them head-to-head.
