Around SBN: Leandro Damiao Is Still Really Good

Ryan Garko traded to Giants

Story hereGiants give up Class-A left-hander Scott Barnes (12-3, 2.85 ERA, 99 strikeouts in 18 starts and 98.0 innings), rated 8th in the Giants system by Baseball America.

Garko has been linked to Texas for the last few week and the first question that comes to mind is what is the equivalent Rangers prospect.

Garko

I really wanted him. I thought he would be the biggest offensive impact player with the fewest value given up.

Stop caring about the color of your glove and focus on your pitching.

Yep...

I would have liked him as well. Don’t know much about the kid they got from the Giants. #‘s look real good, but that’s in low A.

Good pickup for the Giants, my father will be happy. They need hitting worse than the Rangers do.

Wow

Kiker would be better than this lefty I think… Kiker is younger and in AA…

More a Boscan type… Wow, that is a steal for the Giants me thinks…

Guess they didnt want Blalock

Have you seen Barnes pitch?

I’ve seen quite a bit of him, and I think this is a pretty fair deal. I think Barnes will turn out to be one of the biggest steals of the ‘08 draft. He’s got a low-90s fastball, good breaking ball, good change. But his best tool is definitely his toughness. He’s a big-game pitcher and never seems rattled.

Any thoughts on

why they haven’t promoted him? Seems like he’s ready for AA, especially since he got a pretty good run-up to A+ last summer.

I've been wondering the same thing

But it’s hard to tell with the Giants. They don’t exactly take the traditional road when it comes to promotions and the like.

I think this is a pretty fair deal.

I’ll agree after Garko delivers some significant production for the Giants. Glancing at Barnes’ numbers and reading your comment, I’m very impressed.
