That sucks

But, I’m very interested to see how Mathis responds. I’ll definitely be watching — though I was planning to watch anyways.

I hope Padilla hasn’t spread that flu shit all over the map.

That's why they call them business sox

One point

that the ESPN/AP preview story raised (written before Padilla was scratched) was that being fresh off the flu, Padilla probably wouldn’t have a lot of stamina tonight. So Padilla being scratched altogether isn’t that huge of a setback compared to where we would be tonight if he started.

Mathis/Nippert are going to go down in flames pretty soon.

Hope its not tonight.

the preceding post was a great success.

I happened to catch it

Apparently he got into trouble after he struck out Cabrera. He said a naughty word when he walked of the mound. His mom gave him call last night and Granny called him this morning. It was pretty funny.

I hate this

The only game Mathis has allowed a run in this year was his one start. He has obviously found his niche in the bullpen and with Moscoso on the 40 and scheduled to start tonight in OKC anyway I see no need to screw with Mathis. Simply option Eyre down and bring up Moscoso.

he wasn't optioned earlier this year?

yes he does, but

i disagree with bigsteve. I don’t think its that big of a deal for Mathis to get a spot start. Either way works for me.

by erikj07 on Jul 28, 2009 5:29 PM CDT up reply actions

he has an option

and i think they’d have done this if they knew yesterday that Padz would not be able to pitch.

Moscoso has been scratched

perhaps Eyre or Mathis will be optioned after today’s game to freshen up the pen and get a long man in there for a couple days

padilla will be ready by thursday

According to TR's blog

Moscoso is with the team in the clubhouse.

Cool.

Long relief perhaps? I think maybe they don’t want to overwork Mathis, given how lights out he has been in the BP thus far.

According to EG

5:36: To beef up the injury/illness-beleaguered bullpen, the Rangers are optioning RHP Willie Eyre to Triple-A Oklahoma City and recalling RHP Guillermo Moscoso. The thought is that Padilla’s bullpen session went well this afternoon and he should be able to pitch on Thursday or Friday.

So is Moscoso starting?

I still see no need to mess with Mathis. If he’s needed in long relief tonight so be it but keep him in the pen and on his same routine hes been on that has obviously worked for him (0.00 ERA in 17 innings in relief)

Agree as well

Let Moscoso work 4 to 5 innings and then hand the ball to Mathis to work long relief…
