The window of opportunity may be

but the bank window is closed, I’m afraid. If JD brings it, and Nolan approves it, I doubt Hicks will sign off on it if it includes payroll.

JD was given a budget before the year and should have left room for a move like this.

BTW, I know i've said this before, but im a really big fan of Moscoso

the guy has an excellent knack for controlling his pitches. I think he throws a bit harder than people expected too. He sat around 92 on our gun tonight which means thats more like 93-94, he has excellent control and good tailing/rising action on his FB. He isnt gonna walk practically anyone with his control and has strike out stuff. The only tack against him is the FB rates, but honestly, with a strong showing in K/BB rates, he should stll be a very solid ML pitcher IMO.

If he continued to be great in the BP people would probably want to see if maybe he can still be a starter. A below-average showing was for the best. I’ve always seen him as a pen guy… like most I assume.

Now through 98 games, Texas has only allowed 427 runs and is on pace to allow 706 runs. That is unbelievable. From 967 runs allowed in 2008 to 706 in 2009, potentially.

Speaking of which, we have allowed the second fewest runs in the AL. I didn’t realize just how good this team has been at run prevention. Sheesh.

Eddie Guardado got into a verbal discussion with Tigers manager Jim Leyland in the seventh inning Tuesday. After the Tigers threw behind Ian Kinsler in the sixth, Guardado’s first pitch to Adam Everett in the seventh inning was inside. Leyland and Guardado started talking back to each other, with Guardado motioning for Leyland to zip his lips. Guardado was just protecting his team.

“If they don’t know the game they shouldn’t be there,” Guardado said. “I’m not going to try and hurt anybody. I’m just trying to play the game the right way.”

As for hurting someone, Guardado didn’t think that was a real possibility anyways.

“I throw 85 mph,” he said. “They can catch that. That’s part of baseball. Actually it was kind of fun.”

From Jeff Wilsons Post Tonight about the trade for a first baseman that could hit lefties...

That has to be Victor Martinez me thinks…

  • He has about $3.0Mill left on this years deal, more due to a clause in his contract that would give him a raise… His 2010 is just an option, and it would bump up also due to the trade, $7.5Mill…
  • Indians are trying to cut payroll according to reports…

So, for basically a rental for this year and maybe next year, you could have Martinez for…

Indians Get:
Justin Smoak

Allows them to use Shoppach at catcher full time, a good defensive 1b, and haff can DH forever…

If they want a pitcher:

Indians Get:

Derek Holland

Each deal you could add a low level kicker…

Poor form…

If you want to win this year, if you want to make a move, sometimes you have to make a gamble… If you want to add a quality major league player, you probably are going to give up something that means a lot to you… This is a deal that could work, its a lot, but it would get done, and if you want to win, not build for 2011 or 2012, then you gatta sacrifice…

ok

that was a bit harsh. Instead, I’ll just run you through what it is like to read one of your posts.

First, you come out with a very obvious take (IE: Rangers are looking for a 1B). Then you take the name of someone randomly on the team, regardless of their actual value (IE: Derek Holland, Justin Smoak, Salty/Tea, Fabio Castillo). And then you try to marry the former with the latter with barely a thought on existing deals on the table, actual performance of said players, actual value of said players, their contract status or anything else. And sometimes, just to make sure everyone gets to read your crappy opinion, you might sometimes even make a fanpost of it. Not a fanshot, but a fanpost.

And that abortion of a post above? That’s the result of a very poorly informed poster writing very poorly informed things. And it’s an absolute beating read. So yeah. Stop it.

even if he gets hurt, he’s not our problem after this year. He’s also not going to get any comp as a FA, so we don’t have to worry about arb at all. He has almost no value for the Nats and now that the Red Sox and the Giants both got 1B, he has no suitors.

It’s almost the perfect opportunity for a value pick up.

Fuck!

So my Tivo season pass for Rangers games is set up on keyword “Texas Rangers” and even type = sports, since they’re all freakin called “MLB Baseball”. I didn’t get a chance to go home before going to the game, so I didn’t check it.

Tivo recorded a Rangers/Angels game that aired on ESPN Classic that aired at the same time as the actual game tonight.

Does anyone have video of the Eddie/Leyland exchange? I saw the little clip they played on BBTN. I’m so annoyed at my Tivo!!!!

i still think it is a big deal they had to bench fuentes

that could stay in his head for a while.

"I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the [MLB] for guys to fall in love with [the Rangers’s] sloppy seconds." (thanks cstorm)

I think

it’s even more of a deal that Weaver struggled again.

So that makes, Weaver – Saunders – Santana all struggling, with Lackey being come and go.

I don’t even know who their 5th starter is.

Props to the Rangers on MLB.com article
In a word, unpredictable. Kind of like the AL West this season, with the Rangers and Mariners nipping at the Angels’ heels in a surprising three-team race.

Daniels, drawing on the wisdom of club president Nolan Ryan, is putting together a product built to last with an organization rated No. 1 overall by Baseball America.

“I think you can make a case that all four clubs in the American League West should be even better in the future than they are right now,” Daniels said. “There is a lot of young talent in this division. Obviously, the Angels are the team to beat and have been. Hopefully, the other three teams, with what we are trying to accomplish, will be able to close the gap.”

The Rangers have improved dramatically on the mound and defensively. While they aren’t as explosive offensively — slugger Josh Hamilton has dealt with injuries much of the season — they’ve ripped pages out of the Angels’ playbook with daring on the bases and small-ball staples such as the suicide squeeze.
