Arias called up; Mathis sent down.
Ian Kinsler not in tonight's lineup.
The move makes room for Joaquin Arias. Ian Kinsler said his left hamstring feels better. He thinks he could pinch hit tonight and hopes to start Thursday.
Ian Kinsler is sitting tonight with his strained left hamstring, with Omar Vizquel playing second base and leading off. The Rangers have not made a roster move, but Joaquin Arias is on the card as a reserve. Ian Kinsler is too, so whatever roster move is being made, will not involve him.

Shame
I love what Mathis gave us out of the pen. Hopefully this is the definition of short-term, though.

Well, at least we get a different leadoff hitter for this game

Ugh why not Eyre instead of Mathis
Or even Moscoso if last night was just an emergency stint? Mathis has been nails out of the pen. Why do we send guys down that have had success?
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Because its extremely temporary and Mathis won't be available for at least a few days

Mathis wouldn't be available until Friday or Saturday
Now he has to stay in OKC until next Friday.

So we go an extra 4 days
Mathis wouldn’t be available through Sunday, then there’s the Oakland series, and then he can come back for the Angels. I think we can survive a few games against the A’s with Mathis not pitching.

from what I understand
it’s because Asian Kid is unavailable today, and probably tomorrow.

Yes ten days unless...
…another pitcher is put on the DL before that ten days is up.
I have no objection to man walking on the moon.
Which with this team... is almost a guarantee.

yeah
i don’t know why i said probably tomorrow.
it’s definitely at least a few days

Most likely because...
…after throwing nearly 80 pitches last night Mathis was unavailable for 3-4 days and therefore an empty roster spot.
With Holland averaging so few innings per start, Nippert being far from a known quantity at this point and Padilla still being a post-flu question mark I’m sure they wanted a full bullpen for the next few days.
I have no objection to man walking on the moon.
Thats right
My bad I had thought we DLd someone. It makes more sense now. At least we have a couple guys with options in the pen we can do stuff like this with

Eyre got sent down for Moscoso yesterday, IIRC

Where in the world is Willie Eyre?

twitter question
Do you actually have to tweet to follow people’s twitter accounts?
All I want is a feed of interesting twitter accounts, and maybe to interject with little “twitter conversations” sometimes.

No
I follow alot of people but I don’t actually tweet anything myself. It’s basically just an RSS feed of people’s thoughts/content that I find interesting.

I don't know, it's easy enough
Just create an account. Then search for people you find interesting. Click “follow.” That will add that person’s tweets’ to your homepage “feed.”

Wasn't there talk about Padilla going on the DL?
I’m sure that’s how Mathis will come back up.
LOL Sorry the Sooners will score more that 14. - boomer1
No, that was only because he could immediately come back off the DL on friday or this weekend whenever he could start
He will be starting before mathis can come back.
the preceding post was a great success.
If Padilla can't make his next scheduled
start I’m sure they’ll retroactive him and bring back Eyre or Mathis. Heck they can still add Madrigal or 60day Harrison and add Feliz.
There are options. The sooner Jennings is gone though the better the whole bullpen will be. Too bad he’s not worth anything on the trade market.
so my lineup tonight would look like this
DH Murphy
2B Vizquel
3B Young
RF Cruz
1B Blalock
LF Byrd
CF Hamilton
C Salty
SS Andrus

2009 Texas Rangers: Why The Hell Not Us?--ghtd36 on May 13, 2009
Rangers Lineup per DMN
1. Omar Vizquel, 2B
2. Michael Young, 3B
3. David Murphy, LF
4. Marlon Byrd, CF
5. Hank Blalock, 1B
6. Andruw Jones, DH
7. Josh Hamilton, RF
8. Taylor Teagarden, C
9. Elvis Andrus, SS
Also, this is the pitching rotation for the weekend
Derek Holland will open the series against Seattle Thursday night. Vicente Padilla is now scheduled to pitch Friday, with Tommy Hunter going Saturday and Kevin Millwood pushed back to Sunday. That gives Millwood a couple of extra days to rest his tight left glute.
Bill Simmons: "I will tell you right now, if the Boston Red Sox traded Clay Buchholz for Justin Smoak, I will run around my neighborhood naked...celebrating for an hour. I love Justin Smoak"
So, then
Holland v. Olson
Padilla v. Vargas
Hunter v. Hernandez
Millwood v. Washburn or whoever takes his spot when he’s traded.
Some interesting matchups there.

my first response
was R rated. Why is Cruz out of this lineup and gdamn Byrd hitting cleanup for crying out loud.
Finger bugging him?
There’s no other good reason.
Remember Red, hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.
well Cruz is only 1-5 vs Verlander
but he is 283/.347/.599 vs RHP this year.
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland - 2009 Rangers Minor League POY
An 0-4 night
earns Nellie a seat on the bench. A 1-4 night earns Byrd the cleanup spot.
Go figure.

Thats got to hurt
No hitter through 6 for the m’s pitcher, winning 1-0.. then instantly single-HR, losing.
the preceding post was a great success.

DH
If wash is so against playing anyone but hamilton and byrd in CF why not let Cruz/Hamilton DH instead of Andruw?
Vizquel/Kinsler 2b
Young 3b
Murph LF/DH
Cruz RF/DH
Blalock 1b
Byrd CF/LF/Jones DH
Hamilton CF/RF/DH
Salty/Tea C
Andrus/Arias SS
Is that so difficult?

I guess what I really mean is
Does wash know he doesn’t have to use the same guys at DH. I remember DeRosa being rolled around the infield to get his bat in the lineup and give guys days off. Wash could easily use the DH to field a better lineup than he does rather than sitting Cruz/Murphy

Because Wash doesn't keep dogs
His pets are baseball players, and their names are Andruw and Marlon.
