Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Ron Washington, and Are we running out of baseballs?

So TR talked to RonWash today and he said that he believes that we will make a deal. TR continues to be skeptical about whether we can or will be able to make any moves. I personally wouldn't be apposed to being sellers in a sense. I don't think we will be bringing back Marlon or Hank, so why not see what you can get for them, especially Marlon sense he is not likely to get us a pick. But all that has been talked about  ad nauseum.

And Scott Miller had an interesting note up that  in June we only ordered enough baseballs to get through July. Surely a local high school will let us borrow some if we need them.

So are we going to make a move, and will it even matter if we don't have any balls to play the games with?

To be honest that's fucking pathetic.

With attendance up and revenue pouring in,we hardly have enough baseballs to get us by.

God I can’t wait till the sell of this team is complete to somebody who has a fucking clue.

Yeah

I’m ready, right now, for another impassioned defense of Tom Hicks from Jamey Newberg.

My guess

We make the playoffs…Hicks makes just enough money…Hicks thinks the team is lucrative again so he keeps them…we go through this same shit next year

doesnt that sound awesome

Rec

B/c that is exactly what i was thinking

my guess is he asked Nolan and JD about trades and they simultaneously told him to get the fuck out

agnosia?

We’ve talked about it so much, you aren’t even sure it exists anymore?

Its really beginning to annoy me.

I’m almost certain SOME deal will be made, but Im continuously losing hope that it will be anyone of even 2nd tier quality.

I mean, could we even afford a third of a season of…….. Jon Garlands relatively meager salary? Are we actually going to give up more in talent to save money?

Or is that Lannan rumor a sign that we will try to specifically target someone who hasn’t hit arbitration yet even if its not the smart move?

I couldn’t care less about defending JD (though I do like him), but he really is in a bad position. Under heavy pressure to help the mlb team with no flexibility….

And no i don’t believe anything Sullivan says right now.

the preceding post was a great success.

Lannan

what’s wrong with him?

by kumizi on Jul 30, 2009 1:40 AM CDT up reply actions

He doesn't strike anyone out and just generally sucks.

heh you didn't even know how he was earlier today

Don’t put literally 100% faith in FIP and tRA man, they arn’t perfect. I’ve watched Lannan pitch a complete game, he isn’t THAT bad.

I don’t believe he is as good as his career ERA or that he would be worth the price im presuming washington would demand (hes way off from FA), but he doesn’t suck. If he were free or reasonably priced I’d be glad to have him.

the preceding post was a great success.

by DShep on Jul 30, 2009 9:56 AM CDT up reply actions

Until someone shows me a player

who has a career ERA way different from their FIP, I’m going to buy into them as pretty good predictors.

Define "way different"

Tom Glavine?

Lannan’s FIP is 4.5 this year and 4.75 for his career. As an innings eater that I think would beat that in ERA by a bit thats useful.

I have to think his ridiculously low k/9 this year relative to his bad but not crazy one last year is at least a LITTLE bit of a fluke.

the preceding post was a great success.

Well

then i think you have to sit with what you have

what we have is pretty fuckin good and i think a panicky move isnt smart in the long run anyways

i swear ive seen 12 year olds with more patience than some of you

Pfft its human nature to want to go for it.

Many of the people who supposedly have no patience have been closely following a losing franchise for 5 to 40 years.

The Phillies weren't impressed?

Then why did they sign him?
