Michael Main diagnosed

2007 first rounder Michael Main, the righty pitcher who was thought by a lot of folks to be on the verge of a Felizian breakout season this year, has been on the shelf for a while with a mystery ailment that has finally been sort of diagnosed.

Main has been diagnosed with an "unidentified viral infection," but is apparently over his infection, and is scheduled to head out to Surprise on August 20 to start getting ready for fall instructs.

Good news there, I think...

these weird illnesses/injuries are racking up

it wouldn’t surprise me if we wake up tomorrow to hear that Matt Purke has club foot and A.J. Murray has polio.

I think if we can get Main healthy again, and Purke and Scheppers both signed

It wouldn’t hurt so much if we had to trade away one of our top p prospects minus Martin Perez.

by TooLegitToQuit on Jul 30, 2009 12:10 AM CDT via mobile reply actions

i'd rather trade Perez over Feliz and probably Holland as well

Ideally, I’d like our best pitching prospects to be staggered so that we’re not waiting 2 years for Perez, Scheppers, et al to arrive (assuming Feliz and Holland would be traded).

I’d really rather not trade any of them, but I really just can’t wait to watch Feliz later this season.

My only issue there

Perez supposedly has the highest ceiling of all 3

Im somewhat disheartened by DerHols struggles (i know i shouldnt) and i have a feeling that Feliz will be in the pen….

by Horns130 on Jul 30, 2009 4:01 AM CDT up reply actions

we all hoped Holland would come out firing just like he had at each promotion

but the kid’s a rook. It’s unfair of us to expect dominance right off the bat. And he really has looked good in most of his innings – it’s just that one inning that gets him every time.

What they needed to do

was to start treatment on him before they have a diagnosis. That usually works.

Thats what

Dr. House would do. Sitting around waiting for a diagnosis is definitely not his style.

Main

for all they hype has shown me nothing. He has yet to pitch for a full season. Injuries are likely to hamper this prospect into disappointment.

V-Mart would make this lineup better

obviously you’d send cleveland a catcher. what else would you package for him, and how long does V-Mart have on his contract? He would be a big contract to add which seems unlikely.

not necessarily. They got a young catcher from the Phillies in the Lee deal.
