Profar signs
According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com: "Word has been confirmed that the Rangers have signed Jurickson Profar, a former Little League World Series star from Curacao. The 16-year-old Profar is one of the top prospects to sign on international signing day. He is a pitcher and a shortstop who led Curacao to the Little League World Series title in 2004."
This is big news. Profar has said he prefers shortstop, and the speculation the last few days is that the Rangers would be inclined to let him stay there rather.

So, LSB prospectofiles:
How big a “yay” are we talking here? “YAY!!!” or “Yay!” or just “yay.”?
I’ll admit, I haven’t paid too much attention to the international scouting stuff lately.

i think a Yay! is about right
of course, you can say YAY! cuz the world hasnt ended and we actually have money to spend

Seems like the answer depends on just how adamant Profar is about staying at short
Everything I’ve read suggests he’s not a great prospect there, but could be something special in terms of a pitching prospect.

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm wondering
I haven’t seen anything about his shortstop skills, myself.

He's 16
Let him play shortstop for two years. Have you really lost a whole lot by letting the kid figure out for himself that he can’t make money at short but may well do it as a pitcher. He’s young and headstrong. A short wait, 2-3 years is hardly detrimental to him or the club.
2 years without pitching is pretty significant
I’m not a fan of a kid who is still learning how to pitch pretty much taking 2 years off from developing as a pitcher regardless of if he’s 16 or 20.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Yeah, hopefully we can at least convince him to keep throwing on the side
Maybe hook him up with Maddux or something, and see if we can steer him down the road to pitching.

Even if he signed for just $700k
That is still one of the biggest deals they’ve ever done, including inflation.

Yeah
I think Font would be #1 at 700k in 05(or 06) money, Profar #2
although, funnily
back then 700k couldve fetched him a nice house down in florida, while now profar could probably get 2 of them for his 700k

Cool.
Expected, but still nice to see it go down.
The 40 Trumps All!!!
Everyone needs to drive a vehicle, even the very tall. This was the largest auto I could afford. Should I therefore be made the subject of fun?
Whew
Good to see the budget for signings has apparently not been affected. I’d love to see the Rangers sign several internationals and still sign Purke and Scheppers, crossing my fingers.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
From what I understand way back
when Hicks put money aside for both the draft and FA signings. The money has/is there and since it’s separate from the rest of the team budget it’s not affected. So Texas can sign it’s picks. Sign LA free agents and all that without the issue of MLB shortfalls being affected.
what is the typical protocol
when you have a player who wants to play a different position than the organization wants him to play? obviously we’d like to have him WANT to pitch, but how much can we sort of ‘bully’ him into it if need be. i mean if strasburg signs for $20 mil then says he wants to play third base, that’s not gonna happen. since he’s only 16 i dont mind keeping an open mind about what he develops into, but if the org thinks he is going to be a much better pitcher, itd be nice to get him started on that, developing pitches, refining mechanics, etc. as early as possible.
