El Dookie, Max
If he hits 89 regularly he can get hitters out, at least in the short term, with his deception.
I think Ramirez has mono in his wrist.

I think he could get big leaguers out
Talking about El Duque, of course. I had him at 87-88 in the outing I saw, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s hitting 89 now. His arm isn’t in shape, and he’s probably getting a little stronger each time out.
He was working his fastball in and out on the corners on hitters pretty well. Slider was pretty good, and he threw one slow curveball in for a strike. He’s working strictly from the stretch now.
I don’t think he would be a key guy in the Rangers’ pen, but I think he could be a usable arm.
I'm very glad to hear that
because I’ve resigned myself to them using him, so I’m just hoping he’s deceptive and useful for a while. It would actually be pretty fun if he did really well, the media loves guys like that, he’d be instantly popular.

I’m thinking he must buy a lot of Nolan Ryan beef…

Hamilton
Unless he’s gotten a lot more comfortable since Frisco the other night, he’s just trying to sell the Rangers to bring him up tomorrow.
I guess we can plan on El Duque coming up in the next two weeks, unless they pull a Glavine.

EL Duque
JD is on record as saying he sees El Duque as a reliever. Which two relievers get bump from the 25 man roster to make room for Nippert and El Duque? I don’t think the 40 man roster will be a problem. Sounds like BMac will get shifted to the 60 day DL and losing Bannister or Mendoza would bother me too much.

Mathis is probably the 25-man casualty for El Duque, if he comes up soon, but I’m not sure about Nippert. If he comes up as a starter it’s probably going to accompany Padilla going on the DL. If they decide to prioritize him above some others in the pen, I would have to think that the two other prime candidates are Guardado and Grilli. It wouldn’t be Francisco, Wilson, O’Day or Jennings, obviously.

Grilli
has been one of their better relievers in the bullpen since he joined the team. I don’ think he has options left and he has been DFA’d once already. I think keeping Jennings over Grilli would be a mistake. Jennings really hasn’t been that good out of the pen. 50% of his IR have scored. He has given up runs (ER or IS) in 16 of his 26 appearnces of which only 5 have been >2 IP.

Was he looking that bad in Frisco?

He just looked
completely out of sync. I don’t think that should surprise anyone, but given that and his numbers in OKC I wonder if he really is in a good rhythm yet.

You seem to be implying
that he is trying to come back early, but why would he do that? To impress the Rangers with his health?

Because he'd rather be with the team than with OKC
and because I’m sure in his mind he feels like he can help.

Also, Joe Torres was released from Frisco.
22 BBs in 22 IP will get ya’ that. I think some here were thinking he could be an impact pitcher this winter.

Miggy news
From Brett The Contributor Perryman:
Special notice for LHP Miguel De Los Santos, who is stuck in the Dominican until some visa issues can be sorted out, and his impossibly dominant line: 15.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 9 BB, 41 K. He’s pitching in short stints, around two innings, hence the extra-inflated strikeouts. MDLS is still just 20 years old and after doing well (54 K in 34.2 IP) for the AZL club last season he will be able to make a jump into one of the lower Class A clubs when he returns to the U.S.
And from Jason “The Man” Cole’s paysite … echoing good news about Miggy’s visa/age-veracity probs and even further good news confirming Miggy’s legit state of filth.
It sounds like it all adds up to Miggy stateside playing A-ball this summer.
I just wonder if,
given what Jason said, things can be worked out quickly enough. It doesn’t sound like nearly as bad of a situation as we previously thought, but these things usually work so slowly. I guess Cristian Santana did get his visa pretty quickly.

Can we just exchange Santana
for Miggy? Given Santana’s lack of progress with the strike zone, I’d rather see what Miggy Santa has.

I'm on board with that
I was thinking about what Saint Carlos’ #s might look like at seasons end: 70g, 30 hits, 30 homers, 100rbi, 200so, .185
is he just having
problems getting the paperwork to prove his age? That is a problem in the DR when paperwork is usually not secured by one’s family at birth (or at least, that’s the way it has been). It is only secured post-facto if needed which is why they can easily be purchased if you need them that badly…
"said that his timing is there even if the results aren't."
Well, that’s not exactly encouraging…

...why?
If hes healthy and has his timing thats a lot more important than if some hits arn’t falling in. Whats his babip, .080?
the preceding post was a great success.
I don't think that he's right about the timing, though
at least from what I saw and what Washington and Daniels are now saying.

Exactly
Hamilton wants to get to the Majors ASAP. He’s not about to say “my timing is way off right now, I think I’d like to spend another week here in the minors.”
