Once the trade deadline passes im good

unless we sell everything we have…which we are going to…

by Horns130 on Jul 30, 2009 8:12 PM CDT up reply actions

the thread closed before I was able to respond to your

comment on my trade proposal for Halladay. Look at it from this perspective.

- Holland: He’s a beast. No doubt about it. But any trade involving an ace like Doc will require a team giving up a prospect of Dutchs’ ilk…and when it comes down to it, I’d rather lose him than Feliz, Perez or Smoak.

- Davis: Blocked by Smoak.

- Teagarden: Blocked by Salty.

- Kiker: Good prospect but we have plenty of prospects of his caliber.

- Boscan: Same boat as Kiker.

That’s my logic. At some point a 1st baseman and a catcher will be traded. Why not trade them for one of the best pitchers in baseball? Kiker and Boscan are good but not irreplaceable. Holland hurts but chances are, he’ll never sniff Doc’s level of beastiness.

FIRE DAVE ANDERSON!

I would think long and hard about that

But I still think it is too much at the end of the day

but at least you arent dumb enough to include 2 of the big 4…

i think your proposal is perfectly reasonable and it is just a matter of us disagreeing with the direction of the franchise and on the proper approach to the team…..and there is nothing wrong with that

by Horns130 on Jul 30, 2009 8:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Im gonna have a hard time being upset if we trade for Halliday

seems more than fair to all involved parties. we still keep the two best pitchers in our system and we still have davis.

Ill ask again...

everyone here says that boston and teams like the phils are great organizations. They refuse to trade their young studs from the farm, yet you want us to do so….how is that a logical approach if you think those teams are a great line to follow?

im genuinely curious to see how this can be answered

by Horns130 on Jul 30, 2009 8:00 PM CDT reply actions

Beckett was younger than Doc though...

Yes, there are times when you’ve got to go all-in.

I’m on the fence if we’re ready for that this year…next year, Dutch and Feliz are definitely both in the rotation. This is probably the only time to realistically trade them…so…maybe…

by jerenkrantz on Jul 30, 2009 8:04 PM CDT up reply actions

I think that JD knows what he's doing.

He made some bad trades a several years ago, but he’s helped build up our farm system to where it is. If he’s willing to part with what he’s built up, I trust him.

But also, Chrysler is offering to double the cash for clunkers rebate, and since he doesn’t want extras like a/c, power windows, etc. he could get a Dodge Caliber or Jeep Compass for like $9000 brand new. I guarantee you id feel that way

we absolutely cannot deal 2 of the big 4…you just dont do that…ever, for anyone

and if you somehow are dumb enough to do it…you do it for someone CONTROLLABLE

Ok...

we’ll agree to disagree

that playoff rotation is very average to me…especially when you consider our offense against good pitching

by Horns130 on Jul 30, 2009 8:24 PM CDT up reply actions

With this offense

and who do we have behind Halladay? Millwood and then who? Sure Feldman and Hunter have been good this year, but next year what if they come back to earth? Then we blew up the farm for a year and half rental of a guy, and end up like the Braves. Then everyone will talk about how bad the Jays fleeced the Rangers in the deal of the century.

Latest from Evan Gran

Evan Grant @ July 30th, 2009 at 8:10 pm

8:10: What I’m hearing at this hour is that talks between the Rangers and Blue Jays remain very serious and if you want to read tea leaves, well, you just might go blind. Consider:

Holland is starting (that’s a sign a deal won’t happen): If the teams were that close to a deal, within 24 hours of the deasline, why would Holland start tonight and potentially leave himself open to injury or to allow Toronto to back out over one poor start?

Holland is starting (that’s a sign that a deal hinges upon his performance): Toronto scout Roy Smith is in the park tonight, presumably to watch Holland. If he pitches well (and did we mention he retired the first 12 batters he faced?), would the Rangers back out of a trade? If he pitches poorly, would Toronto?

Fron EG

8:19: Let me be clear on this front – just in case I haven’t already – Holland appears to be the key piece in the deal. I think the Rangers have steeled themselves to be willing to part with Justin Smoak. I think they will get to keep two of Holland, Neftali Feliz anda Martin Perez, but it appears that they would have to include Holland to satisfy Toronto’s desire. Pretty clear expression that Holland and Perez are ahead of Feliz now in the prospect pecking order.
