Anything on the cost for V Mart?

I think Luke French has a lot of potential. TORP potential.-Dstar

hey dude

did you look at my defense of my belief in Luke French? Luke French, Tommy Hunter, Guillermo Moscoso are all potential TORPS.

You have a very lose definition of a TORP then.

Those guys could be decent back-end/mid roto peices, but none of them have TORP potential.

it is the bottom line

it is all that ultimately matters.

Bobby Jindal '12

by dstar442005 on Jul 31, 2009 1:18 PM CDT up reply actions

but not useful for projection is what he's saying

and bottom line is runs allowed, if we’re getting technical (you can argue that wins is the bottom line, too, i guess)

by BuckyB on Jul 31, 2009 1:19 PM CDT up reply actions

i never said ERA

is a projection…

Bobby Jindal '12

by dstar442005 on Jul 31, 2009 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions

the fact that you can put millwood in front of this year's defense

and get a completely different result than putting him in front of last year’s defense is all you need to know about ERA

and you are projecting. you are trying to project TORP – using ERA as the criteria as to whether you are correct. might as well use wins (which is actually the real bottom line).

ok let me get this straight for you guys

I explained why these guys would have low ERA’s in the “Washburn Traded” thread. I’m not an idiot, I’m a stats guy to the core. I don’t just think that they would have low ERA’s because they have/have had low ERAs.

Angels trade coming?

from some OC paper..

Something is afoot in Minneapolis.

The Angels recalled two players from Triple-A Salt Lake when they only have one roster spot. Coming up are utility man Sean Rodriguez and catcher Bobby Wilson.

Adding to the suspicion that a trade is imminent: Juan Rivera figures to get most of the designated-hitter at-bats on the artificial turf at the Metrodome, so why do the Angels need a third catcher?

Is one of their catchers being shipped out in a trade. Rodriguez’s arrival could mean either Howie Kendrick or Brandon Wood is being sent to another team.

Details are just coming in. Stay tuned to the blog.

Look

if you disagree, it’s fine, but you need to understand that there are a lot of people here who are:

1) infinitely more informed than you
2) pissed off at the world/frustrated from lack of sexual activity
3) drunk
4) itching to take a gigantic dump on your head

If and when you disagree with someone here and decide to voice that disagreement, you should first:

1) Make sure it’s not Josey.
2) Research your position and theirs thouroughly using metrics beyond ERA and/or AVG
3) Craft a well-thought-out, humble response
4) Put on a cup, because you are going to get kicked in the balls

Basically, my point is this, you’re among many wise and ornery sages in this place (of whom I do not claim to be one). You should probably spend more time reading/listening than posting. Just sayin’.

That's the problem

the only patience you see is from veteran hitters who got their basic approach with another team, and just use Rudy as a swing doctor. I also think its more than just Rudy, but our Team Leaders like MY endorse the approach.

cause he derives most of his OBP from BA

Because he and Kinsler

were quoted as saying this offense didn’t need more patience, just more energy. Career MY is like an OBP-AVG of 50 career.

When he doesn’t hit 320, he isn’t so productive. He needs a high BA to be productive.

Is there any science behind looking at that spread??

Just a gut feel, but I would bet there is a pretty strong correlation between a team’s OBP-BA number and the consistency of their offense.

I know it’s there using simple common sense, but does anyone know of anyone analyzing it?

Except

our C is one of the worst performing positions we have offensively, and neither Davis or Blalock have shown they can reliably hit lefties.

IF you are going to upgrade the offense, I don’t see any other player that could have done it and meshed in with our team.

Not necessarily

If we played VMart at catcher against RHP and 1B against LHP (allowing us to sit Hank) that would be fine. The problem I see is we would only play him at catcher and you would essentially be stopping Saltys development for the season and possibly next season since he has a very reasonable option price for next year.
