So with the addition of Bryan Price I'm now officially glad we weren't involved in V-Mart.
The 40 Trumps All!!!
Everyone needs to drive a vehicle, even the very tall. This was the largest auto I could afford. Should I therefore be made the subject of fun?
I didn't think M and H were near enough for Cleveland, but with Price I think it's probably about right.
And I wouldn’t have been down with paying that much.
You’re talking about something like Font + Main + Hunter.
Yeesh.
That’d be tough to take in our situation.

Let me say this,
i really, really like the overall direction Cleveland is going in. They didnt really get an awesome package for Lee, but they got pretty solid value of players who are all in the same area of development besides Knapp. Then they added to that with the VMart deal. THey have pretty sick depth of solid players at almost every spot now.

I just think people are acting like VMart is better than he really is
He had a great start but hasn’t been fantastic since then. A .530 OPS in the last month.
Also, I like Salty catching. He’s a defensive stud, so far, and is looking like he’s very good at calling games.
The only reason
I wanted VMart was to replace some dogshit offense. I don’t anticipate Salty will start hitting well this year, or Hank will start hitting lefties this year.

"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - Mitch Hedberg
Answer to BKing
because for most players, it stays fairly consistent through their career.
For instance, MY’s Career
Year BA OBP SLG OPS OBP-BA
2001 0.249 0.298 0.402 0.699 0.049
2002 0.262 0.308 0.382 0.690 0.046
2003 0.306 0.339 0.446 0.785 0.033
2004 0.313 0.353 0.483 0.836 0.040
2005 0.331 0.385 0.513 0.899 0.054
2006 0.314 0.356 0.459 0.814 0.042
2007 0.315 0.366 0.418 0.783 0.051
2008 0.284 0.339 0.402 0.741 0.055
2009 0.326 0.379 0.532 0.911 0.053
10 Seasons 0.302 0.349 0.448 0.797 0.047
So for his career, every year was +/- .008 of his career average OPB-BA except 1. In that same time his BA went from .249 to .331 and his OBP went from .298 to .385. So despite wide swings in BA, the OPB-BA is fairly consistent and predictable.
Not every player has a OPB-BA that is this stable, but most players OPB-BA is generally aroun +/- .010 for most of their career. It makes for a fairly stable predictor. For the most parts players are what they are after they start getting full seasons under their belt.
"I saw a soldier try to dig a foxhole with his bare hands. He didn't notice that he'd torn off all his fingernails. I got him out of there quickly; not for his sake, but for ours. Fear is poison in combat...destructive, contagious." - Band of Brothers
OK, I got that.. Thanks.
But has anyone studied whether or not a large spread in the team number correlates to a wildly inconsistent offense?
(Not sure if you were responding to my earlier post on that question)
The Texas Rangers have been synonymous with explosive firepower ever since they emptied 130 rounds into Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in 1934. - Alyssa Milano
Well,
high OBPs correlated when I looked at it 10 years ago. I probably would have to redo it in the post steroid eras.
The reason I look at OBP-BA is that BAs are all over the board for most players. A lot of guys will have seasons that their BA will move 50 points or so season to season. However, players that have high OBP-BA are likely to have decent OBPs even in their bad BA years.

What about Henry, Clay Henry?
He’s a fireman and a JAred fan from Subway. He got real big on burgers and fries, now he’s down to a smaller size. Gers his might from his veggie delight, made fresh each day at his local Subway.
One thing that surprises me is Heath Bell staying put.
I think Luke French has a lot of potential. TORP potential.-Dstar
So if we bring up Feliz and maybe Smoak
I’ll consider that a good “trade deadline haul”
"Hang-Dai, Wu...Hang-Fu$&ing-Dai"
This
Lets say, “thanks baseball world” and bring up Smoak, Davis, and Feliz… Get rid of Hank and Andruw and go kick some ass…
Ok, maybe not that, but lets get Feliz up here immedietly, get Warner out of town ASAP.

you know
if we had just acquired feliz and smoak at the deadline, I bet we’d be tempted to plug them into the lineup
"I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the [MLB] for guys to fall in love with [the Rangers’s] sloppy seconds." (thanks cstorm)
20 minutes after deadline before going to commercial ESPNnews throws out Halliday update.
Now they wouldn’t do that to keep people tuned in would they?
LOL
Not sure what to make of this, but SI’s Jon Heyman tweeted that Padres pitcher Jake Peavy was dealt to the White Sox again. Heyman is not sure if Peavy OK’d it.

A Nick Johnson question
Let’s assume, for the sake of discussion, we had acquired Johnson, and he’d been healthy enough to play every day the rest of the year.
He plays 1B against LHPs and DHs against RHPs.
How many more runs do you think he represents the rest of the way?
64 no more, no less

I think
the net value of the DHs against RHPs is pretty close to 0.

Maybe 20-30 tops
Everyone today pretty well convinced me that the incrmental upgrade was minimal.
The Texas Rangers have been synonymous with explosive firepower ever since they emptied 130 rounds into Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in 1934. - Alyssa Milano
I doubt its that much.
I think the net against RHP is close to 0, and in the 20 or so games against LHP its maybe 8 runs?

SI_JonHeyman: this is no joke. peavy goes to white sox again. #padres get minor leaguers.

sherman just tweeted that there was no halladay deal
"I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the [MLB] for guys to fall in love with [the Rangers’s] sloppy seconds." (thanks cstorm)
and
@nyp_joelsherman White Sox-Padres agreed to let Peavy be traded off of the DL, Post learns

No Halladay deal
Halladay has not been traded, according to Sherman on Twitter. So many wasted words.
I don't think we wasted words
I think that LSB as a community may have influenced JD and management to not make a dumb move for the fans’ sakes in a win-now mode
That could be a tad grandiose, though
Damn I wonder what Peavy would have cost us
Here is his salary…
2010 salary: $15 million
2011 salary: $16 million
2012 salary: $17 million
i just cant believe that rumor...
but who knows
dont think peavy would ok a deal here though anyways to be honest
