YAYYYYYYYY
i can sleep at night soundly again
thank you JD
i wonder how close that deal was to being done
Or the reverse if he struggles.
Which I doubt will happen. please
the preceding post was a great success.
As I was leaving the ballpark last night
that’s what I was thinking. Then I got a little freaked out later on. But I think it’s possible.

its kind of a nostalgic thought
that was truely a beatiful game last night. It may end up being one of the single most important games in its own way in the history of the Texas Rangers… haha.

I was a little bit frightened.
It was borderline Dirkatronic, though no specific threats were issued, at least none regarding babies and/or the homeless.

JonathanMayoB3: OK, now done, Richard, Poreda, Adam Russell, Dexter Carter for Peavy #mlbtrades
The 2009 Texas Rangers offense: sigh...
nice package!

when is peavy even going to pitch for them?
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
Well hes signed for 3 years, its not dependant on getting back this year.
But it sounds like theres a chance he will be able to make it in time for the end of the season and playoffs if there are no big setbacks.
the preceding post was a great success.
I think the Padres were keeping him out even though he might be ready sooner
to avoid further injury and damaging the little value he had left.

There certaintly seems to have been a ton of trades the last few days, more than i ever remembered in the past
pretty exciting stuff. I was giddy like a school girl to see if we’d get someone, but in the end, logically, adding a small offensive piece just wasnt gonna help us that much and adding Halladay just was unrealistic with the demands Riccasshole had.
All in all, its more exciting looking forward to what we have coming up. I’ll be more excited to watch our home grown studs for years to come.

after that, it was getting hallady or lee if a deal could be made on the cheap – but pretty sure once we started asking for cash we were screwed.
other than that, no good deals out there

What I was saying as the thread closed.
Regardless of anything else, I’m disappointed no acceptable deals could be found. This team IS in a playoff race, and it CAN be improved. The rangers clearly agree, they tried to. Seriously, Dustin Nippert is our first line of defense for injury. If it turns out the teams were simply demanding too much, so be it but I’m still disappointed.
However, if money blocked lesser deals from being done, then I’m further annoyed by the Hicks situation, please god gift us a good owner for next season.
Now, I’ll get over it in a few days if Derek Holland maintains some momentum and shows that he might actually be able to help us this season.
the preceding post was a great success.
look
I kinda agree, but we didn’t – as a group – expect to be much more than a .500 team this year. The fact that we’re doing so well, and in the race, and we have stayed the course and won’t lose any of these prospects or the current MLB roster that is controllable and cheap for years to come is pretty awesome. If we make the playoffs, that’s a tasty treat. But we just want some water and sunlight right now for nourishment. When we’ve grown up next year, we can land Halladay or somebody else for cheaper and make that run. Or maybe we won’t even have to. Either way, I’d rather not give up the chance a Beavan or Kiker hits on with another club for a guy like Nick Johnson. I would’ve loved him here, but not for one of those guys.

The Sawx paid a huge price for V-Mart, one that I don't think I'd've been comfortable with.
Plus they took on money.
The Malingerer deal… now that’s a tough one. There’s no arguing he would’ve looked nice here, and the Nats agreed to pay his shit too, apparently.
It would’ve been nice to run him out there at DH the rest of the year, but I don’t know who we would’ve cut to get him on the 25.
Cutting Jones to add Johnson is a bit counterproductive, imo.
Murphy and Byrd are going nowhere. Blalock either.
I dunno.
I do kind of wish we’d’ve been in on it, but I don’t know that I’m too torn up about it.

I'd really like
for someone to tell me how many net runs Johnson would have added. I don’t think he adds more than half a win or so. His only real value is to handle the LH bat side of the platoon instead of Hank. Taking the RH bats from Hank or Andruw just isn’t going to add up to many net runs.

Kiker for Johnson? Yes.
Font, Main and Kiker (not giving up Hunter) for Martinez? Hell yes.
We’d still have Holland, Feliz, Perez, Hunter, Font, Scheppers, Purkell (or whatever his freaking name is) and Beavan on the way.
You can’t break 8 or 9 young pitchers into The Show at the same time.
You’d also still have Max & Borbon.
What we’ve done is take 57-43 for granted.

Arguing that we can give up Font, Main, and Kiker for a player of lesser value simply because we have other prospects doesn’t mean it is a good deal.

Why does everyone act like he’s the worst pitcher on Earth? That’s clearly not the case. He, like most pitchers who don’t slot in at 1 or 2 has bad games from time to time, but he’s also capable of pitching a gem. I’m glad to have him here.

not very... we have Feldman and milly for sure
Hunter seems to have earned himself at least 4 or 5 more starts. Holland will probably stick, but who knows. Paddilla is the wildcard IMO, I think the Ranger’s Brass is pretty much fed up with him. If he can prove to be effective in his start tonight and his next start, they’ll leave him in there, but it wouldnt suprise me if they found away to get him out of the rotation if he’s not good. They dont trust him at all.

And the little bastard threw it for a swinging strike three in a 3-2 count. He’s blessed. And ballsy.
Reasons why Rangers didn't do anything
1. Money.
2. Not enough tradeable players in AAA or AA. The system needs another year to mature.
3. Few available impact players and they were too costly. Mostly due to #1.
4. Rangers in playoff hunt. Couldn’t trade important players such as Byrd & Blalock.

You are obsessed with bodily wastes A turd being held under my nose, this team being a steaming pile, Jonny Donuts having a stinky diaper, the front office pissing themselves, the team crapping the bed…
I think you should seek counselling.

Stop listening to these people. They're not very reliable sources of information

well to be fair....
i just had it on espnnews while i was reading…i dont use it for anything other than bits of info and highlights…for that it is fine
deep thought and intellect…yeah, im gonna have to go elsewhere
I cant wait til we have Holland/Feliz/Perez face-raping teams in a three game series

yeah
cause JP is such a good judge of character?
"I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the [MLB] for guys to fall in love with [the Rangers’s] sloppy seconds." (thanks cstorm)
not character
potential. anyway, you know what I mean

Feliz
I’m just worried if hes in the rotation next year that he averages under 5 innings…
the preceding post was a great success.
But
you just have to step back and take a larger perspective when it comes to Feliz. You don’t judge guys based on what they’ll contribute at age 22, particularly when you are on the upswing.

I'm not sure
I understand the value in rushing prospects.
"I saw a soldier try to dig a foxhole with his bare hands. He didn't notice that he'd torn off all his fingernails. I got him out of there quickly; not for his sake, but for ours. Fear is poison in combat...destructive, contagious." - Band of Brothers
I dont think it would be rushing him, but whether you rush a prospect or not
its almost a given that the first 15 or 20 starts are very likely going to be pretty painful. The beatings are a part of the end result in most cases
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
Do you disagree that there is a significant change he struggles going deep into games
his entire career? and thats assuming no health problems.
I’m worried about it.
I don’t want to give the wrong impression, the day feliz makes his debut is my most anticipated game in years… but watching his innings/pitch counts in AAA and now the rangers not being completely clear about the bullpen move… its concerning.
the preceding post was a great success.
No, I don't necessarily worry about that
It’s conceivable, but I think it’s selling him short.
by Brett Perryman on Jul 31, 2009 4:14 PM CDT up reply actions
I think start out next year in the BP.
I doubt he’ll start much unless they have a plethora of injuries.
no, im sure it was just a matter of risk. Feliz has a ridiculously high cieling, but he could also never be a SP in the ML
I still think we have to feel the same. Im sure JP and anyone else dealing a guy like Halladay has to feel like they can get a guy who is a pretty good bet to be a near top of the rotation guy.
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
you know, now that we almost lost them,
i think i love Smoak, Holland and Feliz all the more…
Yay for yummy prospects.

Deal that the Bluejays started out with...
This morning:
Smoak, Holland, Borbon, Hunter and a Catcher.
What's your souce on that
I’d like to use it later.

On August 30
Halladay would still be owed ~$2.4M. The Rangers are tied with LAA. Do you say no to Smoak and Feliz? Smoak and Borbon? Smoak plus couple othe rprospects?
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland - 2009 Rangers Minor League POY
I know you're just talking hypotheticals
but it’s pretty hard to imagine that Texas would still be in the same sort of waivers position they’re in now and have a chance in hell of no one blocking that. Why not claim him? He’s worth next year’s salary for many teams, obviously. Take Seattle for example.

Do the Aug waivers
based on record regardlees of league?

maybe texas
is not comfortable with CD at 1b for future and want smoak to be their 1b..
Well this year was a little different.
We got the best hitter on the market in 06 for a struggling closer, mediocre outfielder with a year and a half left, bad outfielder, and meh prospect.
And got Cruz back in the same deal.
The Angels got Tex for freakin kotchman and some meh relief prospect.
Oh well, that kind of miracle was unlikely.
the preceding post was a great success.
T.R. Sullivan reporting Halladay said he'd refuse a trade to Texas

I have a gut feeling that Kinsler, Hamilton, etc. are going to pick it up immediately and start raking…

posted this in the wrong thread
per mlbtr
5:10pm: The Blue Jays and Rangers were talking last night when they found that Halladay wouldn’t approve a deal to the Rangers, according to MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan. The sides weren’t close to a deal when they found out.
The Jays, like other teams the Rangers spoke with, coveted Derek Holland, Neftali Feliz, Justin Smoak and Pedro Borbon. Holland’s now in the majors and the other three rank on Jonathan Mayo’s updated list of top prospects.
i can’t believe our prospects names are so hard to get right. what’s the deal?
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
Yes, I just came over here to *sigh* about this.

Wallop! Texas Rangers shortstop Michael Young fouled the ball lofting it high into the stadium and the hand of the athletic father.

I think Neftali Perez and Pedro Borbon were AA roommates

Washburn and Johnson
I wonder what equivalent deals would have been for Jarrod Washburn and Nick Johnson?
Those deals seem like the kind where we could have used the depth in our farm system to top what Seattle and Detroit got, without having deal our top guys.
