You could have made this a fanpost
this is a happy topic well worth discussion. I think it is not out of the question that Smoak could be in Arlington in 6 weeks. Ideal scenario:
- Smoak continues to be as awesome as sliced bread at OKC
- Davis goes to Frisco (or OKC) to work on things, and makes improvements in his contact rate
- Blalock remains hot enough playing 1B most days that he arouses some trade interest
- Daniels is able to get something of value for Blalock at the deadline
- Smoak comes up as the team DH, Davis as 1B and both are awesome
Hey, I can dream, can’t I?

A couple more random thoughts.
Smoak needs to start hitting lefties and get his power back. I expect the 2nd of those to happen before the 1st. Unfortunately, what I think will happen instead is Davis will still be at 1B and show occasional glimpses of breaking out while not really doing so. Blalock will have a hot streak and then fizzle again. Andruw Jones…I’m done with this guy…

You know, I did find Smoak's college splits
http://www.collegesplits.com/draft/smoakju42-b.html
And they do hold with the trend in his minor league #‘s of being less effective right-handed. Of course his college #’s against lefties are still okay in the traditional sense, but it’s worth noting that his AVG/OBP/SLG are all 100 points or more lower than what he did against RHP’s back in college.
There’s plenty of room for improvement when you’re 22, but my guess is Smoak’s probably always going to be less effective batting right-handed, it’s just a question of how much.
Get on base or die, Salty.

The ballpark
would likely not help in this regard.

uh
yeah!!!
Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was on the same pitching staff with Danny Darwin during the 1986 through 1988 seasons. Both were described by Milo Hamilton as "tall, tough Texans." It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin. Though Astros pitcher Bob Knepper attempted to set up a fight between the two during spring training in 1988, manager Hal Lanier stopped it before it could commence. Many experts, including Astros shortstop Rafael Ramirez, felt that Darwin would win because he "looked like someone no man would want to mess with."
