What moves need to be made.............

I am new here, so this subject may have been brought up and i am unaware of it.  I really think the Rangers are on track in their rebuilding process.  However, I feel a few moves could be made to help them be a stronger contender and even stronger in '10.  Just a few thoughts.......

1.  Is there any interest out there for Blalock or Hamilton?  Surely, there is a team that is on the edge of contending that could use a big bat.  With the bats we have, we could move one or both mentioned players out for more pitching prospects.  Hamilton is average at best in center and the team seems to have no field spot for Blalock.  Both are great hitters now, that should be able to bring a great pitching prospect or two.

2.  How long can the club wait on Davis to come around?  Being from east Texas, I am a big Chris Davis fan.  However, I feel he is a weakness at the plate that we cant afford to be a true contender.  Maybe he will work hisself out of his batting woes before next year.............

3.  Any word on new ownership?  As a fan, it is scary that our owner is broke...............this could hurt us at the trade deadline.

So let me get this straight

You want to be active at the trade deadline to help the team and think Davis needs to go down because hes hurting our contending chances…. and you want to trade Blalock and Hamilton for prospects?

Average in CF is hardly an insult. It’d be silly to trade him now because A) The offense clearly needs him and B) His value must be down a bit after struggling with injuries again, with no rush to trade him this would be a bad time.

That said, yes Davis does need to go down but theres noone especially better to replace him with right now, with Smoak being called up to AAA they are surely going to give him at least a little time there.

the preceding post was a great success.

Trade deadline

My thoughts are that this team might have a chance to contend this year. I am anxious to see where we are at the end of August to see if this promise is better than what normally happens. I am thinking that anything they do as far as trading for prospects wont hurt with the general gameplan that this is still a rebuilding year. That said, we all can name many bad trades that teams have done in the past, including ours, that have been done at the deadline just to get that one bat or arm that might get them in contention. I just feel that the Rangers have something to trade in Blalock and Hamilton that wont hurt where they need to be next year, and possibly may help them now.

Why not trade Kinsler while you are at it?

Hamilton is here through at least 2012. How do you figure that trading one of your best offensive players doesn’t hurt where they need to be next year? They need offense next year too, we’ve seen this year the offensive isn’t a juggernaut in its current state.

If you trade Josh Hamilton for a pitcher, its a legit mlb pitcher with lots of time on his contract not a hit or miss prospect.

the preceding post was a great success.

I don't see how...

…getting rid of Hamilton doesn’t hurt them next year.

Can I has Lincecum plz?

by LiamP on Jul 4, 2009 5:47 PM CDT reply actions

aside from this ridiculous post

No way would i want to trade this package for Lincecum, but would a package of Hamilton and Feliz be enough to get Lincecum?

Lincecum

It would take something like Kinsler, Smoak and Holland for them to even consider trading him, and I seriously doubt they would even take that package.

a few things....

1. I don’t expect Hamilton to be playing CF too much more. I could see him at DH to get him back in the lineup, and whenever Byrd plays (2/3 rds of the time) Hamilton will be at a corner OF spot or DH. Also at some point this year or next year, Borbon will be the starting CF.

2.I wish that we could be a player at the deadline, but it doesn’t look likely. The only possible major move that JD could make would be to move salary for salary. I could see us trading a few top prospects for a young pitcher that is close to breaking out…(a Matt cain type). The only other possiblity is to have 2 seperate deals in which they unload Blalock or Padilla for salary, and then deal for a player that can contribute more, but its unlikely (nobody even wanted padilla for just his salary a month ago)

3.At this point Davis probably just rides it out until the Rangers bring up Smoak.

At this point….I think we are what we are. I don’t see JD having the flexibility to help this team, and that sucks because we have a legitimate shot to win this.

i agree with this post pretty much 100%

In my mind, Hamilton should not be subjected to being our everyday CF again, it takes too much out of him and he’s very likely to consistently hurt himself playing out there. And this should be even more true b/c we have legitimate options in Byrd this year and Borbon in the future to play CF

Deadline

Yeah, I think you are right. The only potential movement I see is trading for a better hitter than Blalock (hopefully a righthanded hitter), and then either trading Blalock in that deal or giving him to some team like the Giants in order to make the deals payroll neutral.

by Darrell McKown on Jul 5, 2009 9:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Facepalm.

Trading a player when his value is low is not a great way to build a 2010 contender.

With great team play comes great fanpost headaches.
