Losing 3-0 in the 3rd.
Premature, I’d say.

April loaded or not jones still has a .876 ops with good RISP numbers to boot
Again I don’t care if we DFA him tomorrow to call up Smoak I just don’t like people treating it like hes been a total failure. Players go on streaks, thats how it works.
the preceding post was a great success.
ALL Players go on streaks, thats how it works.

Andruw's April streak really only lasted three games.
He’s had a good game tonight, though. I guess is Wash is gonna keep batting his carcass cleanup the least we can hope for is for it to reanimate itself.

Seriously, Jones still sucks.
He’s popped a few homers, but he’s sucked really hard for quite awhile and it’s gonna take more than one game to change that.

He'll be over .840 OPS after tonight.
About half the team wishes they had that.

Look, the point was that the sum of his efforts thus far is a .876 ops.
And no twisting of numbers can make that a terrible performance on the year. It can suggest that he will be bad the rest of the way and we should have no fears in getting rid of him.. which Im fine with. Thats not the point I was addressing.
the preceding post was a great success.
That's basically what I'm trying to say.
We got good things out of him in April, yay. He’s sucked since then though, and considering how bad he was last year, there’s no reason to give him anymore leash than he needs to hang himself.
Get on base or die, Salty.

The dismissing of april is just ridiculous imo. Its freakin july 4th. april is 1/3 of the season and he wasn't that bad in may.
the preceding post was a great success.
.245/.339/.434 isn't that bad?
He’s a right-handed DH who hasn’t done what he was brought here to do, which is hit lefties. I just don’t understand why he needs to be given chances to stick around.
Get on base or die, Salty.

No its not that bad. Its below average but its not a total failure that you
characterize it as by dragging it down with junes horrible numbers.
The fact is that he has not hurt the team this year. Noone is suggesting we sign him to a 5 year contract.
As for chances to stick around….. have we been doing that? Who has he been blocking?
the preceding post was a great success.
When Hamilton comes off the DL, I don't see that he has a place here.

Better against righties this year or not I'd still rather he face lefties than hank.

Well, I'm hoping Hamilton will DH and they'll send Davis down
AJ can’t play first base, so…

1.048 ops in april after taking out the first 3 games
and obviously we’ve seen how bad he was in june. may was meh but acceptable.
the preceding post was a great success.
Its amazing
how only 3 games have levitated his entire season to an 876 OPS.
Some folks are damned clueless how stats work.

go team go!
Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was on the same pitching staff with Danny Darwin during the 1986 through 1988 seasons. Both were described by Milo Hamilton as "tall, tough Texans." It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin. Though Astros pitcher Bob Knepper attempted to set up a fight between the two during spring training in 1988, manager Hal Lanier stopped it before it could commence. Many experts, including Astros shortstop Rafael Ramirez, felt that Darwin would win because he "looked like someone no man would want to mess with."
