Nippert being called up
Nippert (back) is expected to be activated from the disabled list and start Tuesday against the Angels, MLBlogs reports. Vicente Padilla was scheduled to start Tuesday, but will have his start pushed back a day or two as he continues to battle right shoulder soreness. Nippert has been sharp throughout his minor league rehab assignment, posting a 2.55 ERA in five games. He's been on the disabled list the entire year. The Rangers said they don't expect him to need a trip to the disabled list, but this is the second time in the last week that Padilla has been bumped back. Right now, the plan is for him to pitch Wednesday or Thursday, but it will all depend on how his shoulder feels.
Who gets removed from the 40 for Nippert?

Dustin Nippert is going to pitch for the Rangers on Tuesday against the Angels. The Rangers are going to pitch Vicente Padilla back to either Wednesday or Thursday while he continues to deal with sore soreness in his right shoulder.
Nippert has been on the disabled list since the beginning of the season with a strained muscle in the back of his right shoulder but has a 2.55 ERA in five games, including four starts, on medical rehabilitation assignment and should be ready to go.
The Rangers are hoping Padilla can throw a side session in the bullpen on Monday and be ready to go either Wednesday or Thursday. He would bump either Derek Holland or Tommy Hunter. Padilla was on the disabled list earlier this year with a strained right shoulder but this is not considered as severe.
“We just want to give him a few extra days,” general manager Jon Daniels said. “At this point it’s not expected to be a D.L. situation.”

"sore soreness"
How sore is it?

Gotta be it.
I don’t see any other move they’d make right now.

how much longer do they plan on effing around with Bannister
5+ era in AAA this year, 5+ era in AA this year, 5+ era, 4.67 career minor league era, 25 years old. At some point don’t you start thinking, “this is what he is, a crappy minor league reliever”? I mean, what am I missing on this guy? and why does he deserve to be on a 40 man roster?
There's more to the picture than meets the eye.

a spot he will stick around

For me
Duran wasn’t a better option. Obviously was to them, but I wonder if they got burned a little by Houston claiming him.

I think they thought his surgery
and 40 man spot would have scared every off.

Roster
McCarthy to the 60-day DL is a no-brainer, since he won’t be back in 60 days.
I would say that Bannister would go when Hernandez or Feliz gets called up, but with Nippert on the active roster, it may not be as certain that one of them gets added to the roster in July.

It's funny
Folks were feeling bad when he got hurt to start the season, then he hasn’t been bad in his rehab.

What folks?
I really don’t think there was much of a commotion when he got injured, and most of the people that had him making the team had him in the highly coveted long man position. To my recollection.
the preceding post was a great success.

There are a few like this. Certainly wouldn’t characterize it as 100% or anything, but comparing the general attitude then with now I get the feeling that he’s much more viewed as a nuisance now, as opposed to someone who could help. I can understand that, with the pen generally pitching well and some viable options like Feliz in the wings, but I think it’s interesting nonetheless.

Ugh.
I guess it might as well be nippert vs the other options but meh @ throwing nippert/hunter vs the angels. Bah, injuries.

I'd rather see Hunter, based on his first three starts.

Hunter is wednesday already
Both, not one or the other.
Well I guess it says padilla could pitch tuesday but I’m not holding my breath on that one.

Wonderful
We are going to get spared to death with Dustin Nippert against the Angels, and it may cost Tommy Hunter a start.

I think it pushes Tommy
back but cost Holland a start

Rotation
I meant cost Hunter a start vs. the Angels, but I wasn’t clear.
Tuesday night’s starter would likely also start the Sunday before the break, so we are likely getting two Nippert starts instead of a Padilla start and either a Holland or Hunter start.

It might not be so bad
Remember last year when Nippert mopped-up after Mendozer? Eight innings relief against the Halos and held them to one run on four hits (?) He had his fastball popping that game

He also had a pretty good start against them in August
Held them to 3 runs in 5.1, struck out 7.

I don't know why you're so down on Dusty Nips.
He seemed to be coming on strong at the end of last season…and he’s done nothing but impress in his rehab starts. Give the dude a chance.

Might be something to do with being 28 with a 6.4 career era.
And that 1.8 whip with the rangers.
And the fact that after starting september strong he in fact finished with 9 earned run in 11 2/3 innings. I was very pleased for the rangers to take a chance on him last preseason and if hes our best emergency starting option than so be it, but he was a spare last year and I’m expecting the same this year. Obviously I hope to be wrong and maybe the defense can help him out like it has some others.
the preceding post was a great success.

I meant
Bourbon gets removed from the 25 and McCarthy from the 40 to make room for Nippert.
Davis and Hambone switch spots.
Gaurdado next?

but I’d be pretty surprised if he did right now.

What do you make of this Mike Hinckley character?

I liked the signing at the time
13/13 BB/SO is pretty gross. The Nats thought that he was going to be a key part of their pen this year, so I have to assume that the low 90s FB and improved command that he rediscovered during the year last year has gone away (the command certainly has).

expect they will activate Hambone for tomorrow night as well
He hit a double and a triple tonight.
