Hey Adam, I'd like to know

What do you think the Mavs should have done instead of signing Kidd?

by texasraider on Jul 5, 2009 9:53 PM CDT reply actions

Don't have a good answer

And there may not have been anything else they could have done, given their plan. I’m just not sure what their plan is.

They seem to be frantically adding pieces to try to be a 50 win team that is vying for the 4th seed, but will probably be more like a 6 or 7 seed.

Their window of opportunity has closed. I have to wonder if they wouldn’t be better off stripping down and rebuilding, because the chances of them winning a title, or even making the NBA Finals, in the next few years seems to be nil.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 5, 2009 9:57 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think it's closed, but it's definitely closing

and the only thing holding it open is Dirk.

BUT

Kidd brings you a solid player that knows how to play the game the way that Carlisle wants them to play it.

As far as what they are trying to do, I think they are holding onto being that 50 win team in hopes that they either, A. hit on an unknown Euro player or B. can package a trade similar in impact to the Pau Gasol trade.

But regardless, the Kidd signing is a good one.

by texasraider on Jul 5, 2009 10:00 PM CDT up reply actions

Hmm

I think the window for a long-term good team has closed, but the chance to win with a one year wonder isn’t gone.

I do think, however, that Howard needs to go. If you add a Hamilton, an Anthony Parker, and find a way to bolster the bench just a little bit, I wouldn’t count out a championship-caliber team.

by brettgardner on Jul 5, 2009 10:05 PM CDT up reply actions

OT question

do any of you think ESPN is pissed we didn’t do what we could to get Hamilton up here for the national telecast?

If we're talking long-term, happy-life relationship, I'll probably take dream girl.

Any less and I’ll take the Rangers. Easily. And they’re probably only the fourth most important sports team to me.

I’d probably agree with that, although my Rangers obsession has become a major part of my life over the last couple years.

The Rangers are pretty damn important to me.

And they certainly dictate my emotions for much of the spring and, depending on how that goes, the summer.

But I worship at the altar of the Cowboys and Cougars football and basketball ahead of them.
