Around SBN: Jeremy Lin Sets Assist High In Easy Win Over Sacramento

45-35

5 in a row.  Tied for first place in the division.  10 games over .500.

Not bad for a team that was being written off about a week ago.

I believe the Rangers will finish this week in first place.

My only question regarding their ability to stay in first is will they make the tough moves needed to win a division. Such as send Davis down until he finds his swing again, Release veterans who add no value to a division title run, and trade for any missing elements even if it means giving up a mid-level prospect who has no long term starting possibility with the major league team.

by Mark from OC on Jul 5, 2009 10:36 PM CDT up reply actions

They will.

Davis will be sent down soon and any deal that makes sense will also be done, I just hope they allow Smoak to develop at his pace.

5 Major League Pitches

Hunter throws a fastball, cutter, changeup, slider and curveball…all major league caliber. He was overshadowed by the Beaven/Main draft, but the kid can pitch.

by BoReed on Jul 5, 2009 10:40 PM CDT up reply actions

by texasdoc on Jul 5, 2009 10:46 PM CDT up reply actions

ML caliber

Is not a strong enough endorsement. I like Hunter, I think he’ll have fairly lengthy ML career. But I don’t know that any of his pitches would grade out as above 50 on the scouting scale. That’s a slippery slope; If he has a bad day, a 50 becomes a 35, and big league hitters will tear that apart.
That being said, he’s still fairly young. Who knows? He’s certainly worth hanging on to.

Kanye, you want to be the voice of this generation? Get in line! It goes me, Obamagirl, the Freecreditreport.com guys, then It's a tie between you-and Crocs.

Yes

but….he shut down a very good Rays offense in his last start. If he keeps it up, the Rangers will be forced to keep him in the rotation.

by BoReed on Jul 5, 2009 10:48 PM CDT up reply actions

I like them both

also, but they aren’t finished taking their lumps yet. I think .500 ball on the road is good baseball.

by texasdoc on Jul 5, 2009 10:38 PM CDT up reply actions

I wouldn't say I feel that good about Hunter

But right now, I feel confident enough in the rest of this team to win a game he starts. The defense will help any pitcher we put in the rotation now and if they have decent stuff, they can be successful. The bullpen can pick up the slack and looks pretty good for the 7-9 innings now. And of course, the offense has been showing the ability to score more than 3 runs a game.

the point...for the retarded (clearly you)

Holland certainly has a ton of upside but he has been far from dominant, very far

even in what was a very good performance he still made a colossal mistake and managed to give up 4 runs

Hunter has looked just as good this year

i know holland is basically a love child of this board but give me a fucking break

by Horns130 on Jul 5, 2009 11:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Holland is great but...

He’s still a kid who thinks he can throw his fastball past major league hitters. He’s outstanding when he uses his secondary pitches and gets shelled when using nothing but his fastball. He’ll figure it out, they just need to keep throwing him out there.

Yeah

I’m not dreading it as much as I was earlier this year ,mostly because Davis has come back down to earth defensively. His overall UZR has dipped to a -.6.

Sweet.

Now let’s sweep Anaheim.

Why is Borbon here?

Davis is going down not Borbon, so that leaves us with 5 OFs + Jones. When does Borbon get a chance to play. He has been up for a week, and started one game at DH, and came in as a replacement for one game.

Yup, someone has to go down for Nippert on Tuesday

Heh

Somebody needs to ask Wash what happened to him “not being called up to sit on the bench”.

Either that was bullshit, or Wash thinks the bench is in center field.

He isn't SITTING on the bench

He is speeding off the bench, at least accourding to the link. But that was a major flip flop.

Isn't it great

That we don’t worry about these things anymore? We have 3 starters our and nobody’s freaking out. We just swept one of the top teams in baseball largely on the strength of 3 very solid pitching performances, all by guys most didn’t think would start for us at this point last season.

Agreed

However, I would be extremely surprised if McCarthy starts another game for the Rangers, so I don’t really consider him a starter out anymore.

Some Murph dog love is in order

Keeps getting tabbed as a fourth outfielder but good things happen when that boy is in the lineup. Just needs to sit on a few of the lefties.

hes a good platoon OF

but the guy isnt good vs LHP

boggs, when healthy, is pretty good vs LHP

therefore you would think you have a pretty good 4th/5th OF there with those 2 lol

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

hmm ate the rest of my fairly long msg

basically hes a good 4th of/5th of with boggs (who can hit lhp, murp cant very well)

that said, hes not a prototypical #3 hitter lol
