I was hoping to read this somewhere:
Beavan has actually been told to pocket his two-seam fastball for now, in favor of a four-seam fastball, reportedly in an effort to build back some of his amateur velocity. By next season, Beavan should be throwing both a two-seam fastball and a four-seam fastball with command of both…
Nice
Shroom do you think he is TORP?

Nah
I think they have him sussed out there – maybe more of a COASHIR to me rather than a TORP or a LAIE. I woulda said Hunter and Beavan both remind me of what I always envisioned Eric Hurley becoming before KoK took a chainsaw to civil Eric Hurley discourse around here.
OK
I know what TORP and LAIE mean, but what the heck is COASHIR?

What do all three mean?
I must have missed that part of Lonestarball orientation.

TORP- top of the rotation pitcher
LAIE- league-average innings eater

Thanks for answering my stupid question.
I swear I even tried to google it before asking.

Be fun to see what effect this article has on Beav’s & Hunter’s rankings in the CPP.

I have always thought Hunter could be a good innings eater.
It has always seemed like the organization is just sitting there, waiting for him to throw badly so they can say “I told you so, we knew he was just a bullpen guy”…
Keepin it Classy Gentlemen
Huh?
I don’t see how you could get that impression. They have promoted him aggressively and given him lots of opportunity. It seems more like to me they knew what he could be and set out to challenge him and make it happen, and now he’s a much nicer prospect than we thought he was when drafted.

What a difference a year makes
I still remember last year some of us were arguing that Hunter was more of a bullpen guy that someone that could be a rotation guy (due mostly to having only two pitches, the four-seamer and the curve), but in developing a two-seamer and a change-up, he has potential to be a back of the rotation starter, a LAIE. When I watch him pitch this year, I always get the feeling that he could turn into a Rick Helling type of pitcher, and I would be extremely happy with that

That honestly might be selling him a little short.
He’s probably already on the verge of being a solid back of the rotation guy. Citing that as his potential seems short-sighted, and I don’t mean that as an insult.
He’s throwing 4 quality pitches right now, and his command is very, very good. He’ll probably never strike out enough guys to be a #2 type, but he’s definitely on the radar as a solid #3, especially if he continues to improve his game like he has.
Thats what I mean
I’ve always considered a back of a rotation starter as a 3, 4, or 5 guy. He really does got the making of a #3 guy if he continues to command those pitches

And that's good with me
Front the rotation with some combination of Feliz, Holland, Perez, and Scheppers, fill the 3-4-5 spots and some of the bullpen with whichever of those four doesn’t pan out into a TORG and Hunter, Beavan, Feldman, Harrison, and Kiker.
I believe I’ll take that sort of projected pitching staff 2-3 years from now.
