Napoli with a huge OPS against lefties and Jennings having been

a pretty reliable reliever for us this year with an ERA half that of Holland’s.

Some nights the pitchers just don’t do their job.

by Texas_Dawg on Jul 7, 2009 11:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Which is part of the problem here...

The more pitchers you use in the game, the more likely you’ll run into the pitcher who just doesn’t have it that night. We’re still set to use 3 more pitchers this game for a total of at least 6 likely if we hold on and win in 9 innings.

…but winning this game comes first, imho.

Going to Jennings there in attempt to help assure the win is at least a rational move.

thats not a problem at all

its that he left jennings in for way too long

Holland was unhittable tonite.

When he is throwing like that I pitch him over Jennings who once again lets an inherited runner score. (On 3 fuckin walks)

Like I said above..

Holland has gone from “unhittable” to his 6-run ERA norm very fast in several game this year.

Um,,, Why is he still in?

to be fair

everybody that disagreed with it, did so before it failed, for a manager that “goes with his gut” you sure would think your gut would tell you to go with the guy that is absolutely Dealing, and not with a righty righty matchup

by blueballlefty on Jul 7, 2009 11:34 PM CDT up reply actions

that's what was so funny to me

was everyone was bitching about RW’s gut, when that was one of his best “statistical” moves all year

by texasraider on Jul 7, 2009 11:36 PM CDT up reply actions

its kind of like basketball

you either hit the backboard or you dont when you shoot, if you try to do both then you miss miserably and suck, so either be a gut manager or don’t but dont try to do both and suck at both

by blueballlefty on Jul 7, 2009 11:38 PM CDT up reply actions

because hindsight is 20/20

if Holland stayed in and allowed a HR i would have called Wash an idiot. If Jennings would have come in and struck out Napoli I would have given Wash no credit. Sometimes fans are irrational and cannot be pleased. This one such situation for me.
