47-36 Ranger Win Postgame thread
Huge win for the Rangers. The Rangers give Nellie and Ian and Salty the night off, and still crush the Angels with the help of a white Hot Andruw Jones (Ranger OPS leader and person who would be released if a lot of LSB had their way).
11 games over 500! Your First Place Texas Rangers! Time for Seattle!

Hello, win column! And Nice dig, DJ
I suspect it’s from the pre-season vitriol against the NRI.
People just hate to admit they’re wrong, don’t they?
Must be some psychological principle related to it.
R
I never understood
the desire to dump him, especially when he’s cheap, and he doesn’t seem to raise crap if he’s just riding pine.
I still think the best thing about the game is that Ian and Nellie got a night off. I really hope it pays off in Seattle.

The funny thing is
if they were to drop him and replace him with a young prospect who rode the pine, everyone would be screaming that they were derailing the prospect’s development.

Oh, there are definitely some
who are willing to admit they’re wrong. And I definitely think better of them and their opinions for it.
But there are certain people who just can’t seem to do it. And it also seems to happen that they’re wrong more times on average than the people who ARE willing to admit it (though that’s not a direct correlation).
It might have to do with the ability to know how off you are depends on your ability to predict or judge?
Anyways, I’m glad that Andruw Jones is proving you wrong and you’re willing to admit it. I just wish that Chris Davis would prove me just as wrong so that I can admit it….. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened with any consistency…..

I was wrong about Wash.
Big enough sample now, the man deserves his due.
"Ho visto il tuo agire, non solo rendono per me. Basta un sacco di fluff".
Depends what you were saying about him
I’m still skeptical that he’ll make the right tactical move.
But I think he seems to at least have the ability to get the ear of his players.
And I think he CAN learn from his mistakes (though sometimes, it feels like he’s a little slow on the uptake).
Overall, I’m willing to admit that Washington was a better hire than Hillman (who was the guy I was leaning towards of the candidates interviewed). Hillman seems to have been a major bullet dodged.
R
I was saying he's an awful in-game manager.
But too much shit has worked well for me to keep it up. Whether it’s double steals, early bunting, bullpen management…The record speaks for itself. And that’s without Hamilton for a long time, a terrible CD, Fx2 injuries, Kinsler extended slump, and no true ace.
Something’s working. Much props to Wash, and I’m happy for him, because despite my dislike of his game management, always liked the person.

I wasn't too scared of the NRI
just afraid he’d be overused like Sosa, Nevin and so many others in the past. But wow, Jones has been much more than we reasonably could have hoped for. I expected very little, and he’s been streaky. Now, I just hope that this hot streak doesn’t encourage Wash to overuse him…
I’m fine with Jones as long as he’s not overexposed. He’s a better RH bench bat than you could easily come up with in a trade.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
Its so sad that Sosa
was so misused as a Ranger. After a month or two, it was pretty clear he was putting up huge platoon splits.
If we had Sosa, hitting exactly like he was then, and used him as a platoon for Hank, we’d be destroying teams.

Encouraging quote from Wash after the game last night
"He swung the bat well against Tampa Bay," manager Ron Washington said. "He’s swinging the bat very well right now. It doesn’t mean he’ll be in there [Friday]. He may or may not be. But he’s productive right now and I’m going to play him as much as I possibly can."
Ride the hot bat, Wash, but don’t overplay anyone, I like that. This has been a great week, with Blalock and Jones getting hot and Hamilton coming back. Maybe when one or more of them cools off Cruz will get hot again.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
You hope
that with as many streaky hitters as this team has, Ron can find 2 or 3 to be in the lineup at the same time.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind Teagarden getting a couple more games a week. If he can get a streak going, it would be a huge boost to what we have been getting from the C position.

I'm also starting to think Tea needs to play a bit more
It’s not like he could alot worse than Salty has been lately…

I think Dave and Buzz said during the game that Tea was supposedly going to start catching two times a week
We’ll see if it actually happens this time.
Get on base or die, Salty.

Yeah, I've heard that
a every couple of days split would be fine with me. Honestly, I’m too worried about the offense from the C spot — I just think Tea could help that a bit while still keeping the good D Salty has been showing lately.

Damn, thanks for reminding me
I was planning to head over and read that when I saw the frontpage post on their 9th inning before the game, but almost forgot.

Fine, I was wrong about releasing Andruw. But he does need to stop hitting cleanup, and could be used a lot more sensibly by Wash.

You weren't alone.
I didn’t have problems with releasing AJ to plug someone else in. I just didn’t understand the threads were releasing AJ, and adding no one and apparently playing with a 24 man roster.

I found this gem from their post game thread
“Knowing Texas has a tougher 2nd half schedule than any other team and certain that they cannot reproduce these same results against major league clubs, Angels fans can wait and hope.”
My hope for the angel fans out there is that they never see 1st place again, not for just this year, but for the next 5 to 10 years.

Yeah...
After tonight our record against teams over .500 is now 26-24. So about not being able to beat tougher teams…

As bad as the team was
in June, its not impossible for the bats to get just as hot at the same time, and have another May.
The downside to a high SLG/low OPS is the slumps can be brutal. The upside is if 4 or 5 bats all have a 2 week hot streak together, there is gonna be lots of pain dished out.

Well,
I guess we play less minor league clubs, like the Angels.

First, I never knew you could get baby dicks in a bag. Very convenient.
Second, I never imagined you could use said bag of baby dicks to insult others.
I will have to steal this line, sir.
I'm pretty sure I stole it from the Boondocks
So go ahead.
