What can you say?  Terrific outing for Tommy Hunter.  One unfortunate pitch by C.J. Wilson.  And if you only get 3 hits, you probably aren't going to win.

I think your anger is misdirected, though. If you had to single one person out (you don’t, of course), I’d think Murphy would be your man.

I mean, obviously it's tough to pin a loss

on one reliever when, like Morris said, your offense manages only 3 measly hits and one run. But, CJ just infuriates me. When you have Ichiro down 0-2, he shouldn’t see anything near the strike zone until the count is full or at the very least…even.

and that pitch to Goochi-errez…GOOD GOD, MAN!

He seems like he’ll shrug it off and be ready to go tomorrow. That’s what I’d want my big relief pitchers to do.

Stay dumb

Although I’m sure you don’t need any help with that.

It was a fluke hit, a squeezed strike zone, and one bad pitch. Not near as awful as you, or the line, would believe it to be.

you should want them to stay in so they won’t trade Bedard or Washburn in a crazy sellers market for pitchers.

They need to be 6 games out by the end of this homestand and stay into it till 7/30

Well I said I expected a 3-1 or 4-2 score but thats not how I had it planned out.

I’m not too upset though. It would have been a great win but… still alone in first, Seattle’s best pitcher is past at least.. Hunter while not as good as his line still kept it going at least…

Eh, whatever. You need to throw a strike to griffey though, bad call to get the third ball or not.

the preceding post was a great success.

Plus, out in the pasture

They do much worse than just crash into each other. And out there, there’s no human forcing them into it.

I am opposed to idiotic humans abusing animals, but aside from that, I’ve been around animals too long to worry about their “feelings”. If they had feelings they wouldn’t beat the crap out of each other on their own volition when the PETA types are off in the city not having any sense of reality.

Of course

That’s not the point. It’s not the damage or death that’s the problem, and it’s certainly not the “feelings” of the animal. It’s the exertion of will over a lesser creature for an invalid purpose.

I am not a “PETA type” by any means, but I think it’s fairly safe to say that torture for amusement is not on the same moral ground as slaughter for sustenance, no matter how one or the other is carried out.

It'd be one thing

if it was a bunch of graphs and numbers and shit, but LSJ is generally pretty awful at analyzing what those graphs and numbers mean.

66% strike rate, 9.5 Swingstrikes in 104 pitches thrown.

This was a pretty good game, regardless of who the opponent was. The high pitch count was more as a result of the Mariners taking pitches and fouling off offerings than it was eratic command.

Washington Fails Again

Why the hell was CJ pitching to Gutierrez? Why, oh why, do you not bring in our CLOSER Frank Francisco to face the righty? I don’t even blame CJ; he has always been a headcase. What the fuck was Ron Washington thinking? Is Francisco no longer capable of a 4 batter save? Fuck Washington; this is the kind of loss that can lead to a complete tailspin. We should have won.

A lefty in Langerhans on-deck?

Then Woodward, a righty. I forgot how many outs there were, but if there were two, wouldn’t you pitch CJ against a lefty?

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

by jonthefon on Jul 9, 2009 11:54 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You don't strategize for Ryan Langerhans

or Chris Woodward.

Franklin Gutierrez is almost 1.000 OPSing vs. lefty. You would use Frankie in that situation rather than CJ for the simple reason that Franklin Gutierrez is less likely to hit well vs. a righty, rather than a lack of confidence in CJ Wilson.

yeah, you’re putting an extra runner on, but Gutierrez is undoubtedly a bigger threat to burn you than Langerhans.

by jonthefon on Jul 9, 2009 11:59 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No

because as good as they have been, both Frankie and CJ are prone to random bouts of wildness. Setting up a force, basesloaded situation in a game where you’re up by one is always a bad play – unless the hitter is Albert Pujols and he has Neifi Perez hitting behind him.

M's fan here but just confirming a few points on what you guys said.

We do call Guti a pornstar and HR by him are usually known as money shot and it was pretty damn big.

The Mariner’s offense is pretty damn bad and we make people like Sidney Ponson look like CY Young.

Aardsma while lights out comes with a flaw and it’s loooooooooooooong fly balls he’s only given up 1 HR but in the bottom of the 9th if this was at your ballpark he would’ve given the 2nd and 3rd. Thank god for Ichiro!

Alright good luck in the next few games we’re throwing out the top of our rotation and the M’s offense is horrible against almost all pitching staffs (especially when we’re starting Cedeno/Woodward/Johnson/Johjima who all OPS under .700) so it looks like it’s gonna be a pitcher’s duel every game.

You got slurved!

Wow

I lived in Dickinson for a few years back in the 80’s. Don’t see too many people that have lived there as well.

What's the rumpus?

Don't worry about it

Pretty much everyone has a rough start around here these days.

It's a rough start for everyone on this board.

It’s normal. I’ll trade you North Dakota winters for Texas summers?

Love Texas Summers

After the winter we had; worst in 50 years or so. Actually from Dallas originally.

Man

of the top 3 college prospects in next year’s draft. 2 were former Rangers draftees. That stings.

Pomeranz

hurts more because he almost signed, there was a press release saying that he did, in fact.

God,

if that draft had been Beavan-Main-Borbon-Hunter-Ramirez-Pomereanz-Ranaudo, it might have been the best draft ever.

only thing I’m mad about is going to 3-0 on Griffey.

yea, walking grif was not good

although, that cheap ass hit Ichiro got on him could have made that inning completely different

You simply don't

walk a guy hitting .217 and slugging .400 in that situation. At some point in that at-bat, CJ should have said, “I throw a 95mph fastball with movement and you are an older version of 2009 Chris Davis, see if you can hit this.”

Ok I didn't see much of the game tonight

BUT, all of the guys sticking up for Wash for the Jennings for Holland move the other night have to be mad about not bringing in Fx2 with two on and two out up by one in the 8th

by blueballlefty on Jul 10, 2009 2:02 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

No we don't

CJ has been pretty damn good the last couple months regardless what side of the plate the batter is on. Frankie has struggled since coming off the DL. Asking him to get 4 outs may be out of the question right now.

We just have to chalk last night up to one of those games we should have won but didn’t. At the end of the season im sure those type will even out the ones we won when we had no business winning.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by bigsteve on Jul 10, 2009 8:12 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

you dont have to

defend your hypocrisy to me, it would be different if CJ was rolling but there were two on and two out, the match up was CLEARLY better for Fx2, if Frankie can’t get 4 outs then maybe he should go back to the DL

This is what happens in the summer when I don’t watch any television. I completely lose track of stuff like what shitty movie is getting released next.

I'm thinking for it to be a letdown

you actually have to go in thinking it would be good?

I’m placing the blame on you for expecting it to be good.

by texasraider on Jul 10, 2009 8:57 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly

And I might have terrible taste, but I thought Borat was pretty funny. I mean I didn’t expect Bruno to be good, but I was hoping it’d at least be funny. Every joke felt forced though….Oh well, hopefully The Hurt Locker isn’t a letdown too

Ehh

B+ Nearly ruined by the appearance of Mr. Chow. The least funny character in a pretty funny movie.

I see no functional difference between “Hangover” and “Very Bad Things”.

After seeing Borat

All I’m hoping for out of Bruno is a handful of funny scenes and a real uneven film.
