This Day in LSB History
Two years ago today, we talked about how Torii Hunter wouldn't be a great middle-of-the-order hitter for the Rangers, despite what the MSM wanted to say.
Little did we know that we'd have Marlon Byrd, David Murphy, and Andruw Jones' bloated corpse as middle-of-the-order hitters in 2009.

I wonder
if Tori’s kid gets made fun of because the Rangers have dominated the halos this year
Little did we know
that Byrd, Murphy and Jones would be massive upgrades over Kinsler and Hamilton this year.

Adam,
You suck for posting this and that damn picture.

The bloated corpse...
has an .850 OPS and the most walks on the team (in almost half as many ABs as Young has).
Jones isn’t an All-Star, but we are much better off having him than where we would have otherwise been. The hatred here for Jones is as confusing to me as the hatred for CJ Wilson.
well at least CJ has his age

Jones is younger than Hunter
By over a year and a half
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
It wasn't intended as Jones hatred
More to indicate that this is the fat, older, post-superstar Jones we are talking about, not the prime Jones.

Would Hunter really be that good in our lineup?
He is having a career year this year……..by far
But looking at their career numbers there isn’t much difference
Hunter: 274/ 329/ 473 802 OPS
Jones: 258/ 339/ 490 829 OPS
Murphy: 281/ 339/ 473 813 OPS
Byrd: 279/ 340/ 417 757 OPS
Heres our guys numbers this year
Jones: 224/ 337/ 513 850 OPS
Murphy: 272/ 350/ 460 810 OPS
Byrd: 285/ 324/ 476 800 OPS
With the exception of Jones’ BA they are right in line with Hunters career numbers. I don’t think anyone envisioned him having a career year at age 33.
And also, take out David Murphys 0-23 start to the season and his season line matched up pretty nice to Hunters
Hunter 2009: 305/ 380/ 558 938 OPS
Murphy after his 0-23 start to 2009: 297/ 364/ 502 866 OPS
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Never fear Smoak is near.
And he’s bringing his sidekick, CD.

I know it really doesn't matter at all longterm
but his AAA struggles are getting frustrating. 3 for 24 now..
the preceding post was a great success.
I'd rather those struggles happen now
then up here like CD.

at Evan Grant’s pep rally (kicking off the second half of the season) at Pappasito’s in Arlington, JD took some Q&A.
He said that the plan was to keep Smoak at AAA this season (not to expect him up in September). If he’s called up, then it would be because of injuries to players that are already up here. They didn’t think he was ready yet.

Jones' bloated corpse?
Sure, he’s not Torii Hunter… but a .363 wOBA is pretty solid… and 3rd best on the team this year.
Umm..... Dirk?
Would you do Kinsler, Laird and Aki for Milledge and a B prospect?
I think I would.
I think Luke French has a lot of potential. TORP potential.-Dstar
I can't believe that Milledge ever had that much value.
Ay caramba.

Rangers can no hit curve ball. Straight ball, they hit it very much. Curve ball, bats are inept.
LOL, that
and a message about his odd ongoing fascination with Corey Patterson.

A comment from hightowersmith:
Seriously
Adam, there is pitching in this org.
Millwood, Padilla, McCarthy, Gabbard, Hurley, Loe, Volquez…all viable for even this year’s rotation.
