Tuesday morning Rangers news
Largely a quiet day today...
Jeff Wilson writes about Dustin Nippert getting a chance to be a regular in the Rangers rotation, with Vicente Padilla being axed.
Jennifer Floyd Engel has a column about the Rangers being playoff contenders, Josh Hamilton's issues, and some crawfishing on the competence (or lack thereof) of the g.m.

I was wondering
Any thoughts on picking up a guy like Bronson Arroyo or Doug Davis on waivers? I read somehwere about that (ESPN I think). Was just wondering about those possibilites with the financial situation at all. Some SP depth couldn’t hurt if we could afford it.

Arroyo is terrible and has a but ass awful contract. He has reportedly already cleared waivers.

He also has worse hair fashion sense than the Weaver Bros.
And that goofball leg kick.
I hate everything about Bronson Arroyo.
And now, becuase I said that, he will probably be starting for us by the end of the week.

Rangers can no hit curve ball. Straight ball, they hit it very much. Curve ball, bats are inept.

Harang apparently cleared as well, which does surprise me a bit.
Link.
Harang is expensive (09:$11M, 10:$12.5M, 11:$12.75M ($2M buyout)) but he’s also a pretty good pitcher.
He’s not an ace, but he’s a Kevin Millwood type of 2/3 innings eater who would probably have some pretty good success here.

Could anyone get
CIN to eat some of his contract?

I'm not optimistic
that Harang will be worth that contract. I’d like to avoid aging righty fly ball pitchers that cost that much.

Damnit
I got to leave to head to work and JCole hasn’t chimed in with his supposed “big news” yet. Argh.

Like I said in the minors thread, if it ain't a big signing, I'm gonna be dissapointed at this rate.

Don’t get me wrong, this is cool. And surprising. Just not quite the “big news” I was hoping for.

Two things..
Glad he is not going to Bakersfield.
Does this put him on the map as a possible late season addition next year? Most did not see him on the map until 2011 but this is a rather aggressive promotion.

He’s sorrowful at the Internet’s ability to destroy. Neither original nor very fringy.
Whether you agree with him on the Padilla decision, that’s more a matter of opinion. Here he seems explicitly against.

Aside from the fact they’re both political pundits, it’s hard to think of two people who are less alike.

that their effect is the same. That they’re playing the same position on different teams. Not saying I agree…just my interpretation.

It drives me crazy, though, how she is going to transition into a JD-lover and completely avoid talking about her irrational disdain for him over all these years.

Rangers active on Waiver claims?
Any thoughts as to whom Rosenthal is talking about?

That surprised me too..
I’d guess if they are it’s mostly about c-blocking the other contenders, but I don’t buy it.

Ehh, I really think he was talking about earlier this year
with O’Day and Grilli. I just doubt that we would be taking the chance on blocking other teams right now with the risk of having to accept salary.

as he mentioned them along with the Rays who have picked up Zaun and Springer through the post trade deadline waiver process, at least i think they did.

I'm out of pocket helping my parents move...
and I was getting boxes down from the attic, some of which had my old stuff in them.
I started going through them and found these and got pumped up:

Feels like 1996 all over again.
Also, since my parents are allergic to the Internet and do not have it and I am posting this on my phone, can someone post a summary of what notes Rosenthal had about the Rangers? Thanks.
