Rangers can no hit curve ball. Straight ball, they hit it very much. Curve ball, bats are inept.
lots of fun
I do think Gomez and Bleir are getting pretty much butt raped by the Cal League this year. Gomez may have to go on to the RP side of things as his control hasnt been good as a SP this year though. Bleir on the other hand has a Beaven-esque walk rate and good GB rates

I think both of those guys
could make huge jumps next year in Frisco, especially Gomez because of his K rate.

Gomez 2010
My guess is that Gomez’ prospect status is going to rise considerably next season. If he can get his walk rate back into the 3’s, his combination of strikeouts (career 8.4 K/9) and groundballs (career 1.99 GB/FB) are going to play really well in the Texas League.
BB rate
Am I the only one taking his consistently bad BB rate seriously?
Folks, it sucks.
Can you really blame that one on the Cal League?

As near as I can tell
people thinking that things like BB rates dropping in half or K rates doubling are no big deal.

what do you think about Bleier?
As a groundball inducing lefty with a decent K rate, I could see him improving his numbers next year as well.
Tim Murphy, on the other hand…I really have no idea what to think about him. His year this year, and his lack of improvement, has sort of shocked me.

Effectively wild
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Yikes. Allowing a lot of hits to go with the walks on the year too, ouch.
the preceding post was a great success.
.380 BABIP though.
And a 4.48 FIP still. But yeah, the fact that his walk rate has suddenly doubled (and will go up after tonight) is kind of concerning.

Thx
I knew his BABIP had to be astronomical…I’m not terribly familiar with the Bakersfield roster. Are they supposed to have a good defense?
No, I don't think Bakersfield has a particularly great defense.
And even if they did, they’re still in the CAL league.

Double the walks, and that might be what I could've done in HS.

Gammons on the Rangers Wild Card Chances
Thought this was funny…
The Rangers have come this far because of manager Ron Washington’s emphasis on defense. For example, All-Star and Gold Glove winner Michael Young was so unselfish that he moved to third to make room for potential rookie of the year, shortstop Elvis Andrus.

Corrected version
“The Rangers have come this far because of manager Ron Washington’s emphasis on defense. For example, All-Star and Gold Glove winner Michael Young threw a temper tantrum when asked to move to third to make room for potential rookie of the year, shortstop Elvis Andrus, but eventually came to realize it was the right decision after Nolan Ryan threatened to feed him to his snow monkeys.”
