I'm tempted to say "unless he's facing us"
But his kind of stuff would probably shut us down

His spot on the 40 has to be vacant after the season is over
Or, if necessary, before the season is over

2 pitchers with lowest ERA and WHIP*
Are both inexpensive / no cost in-season pick-ups. Whomever is scouting National League pitchers deserves a big atta-boy.
*minimum 5 appearances

I don't have a degree in mathematics,
but when working with integers, isn’t division by zero simply an undefined operation?
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
its been awhile since calculus
but i think it has to do with limits
the closer you get to zero. ie. .01, .001; the larger the number gets and it approaches infinity
It's been a while for me, as well,
but I believe it depends on what sort of calculations you’re working with. As a purely formal calculation, you can calculate the limit of a/x as x goes to 0 as infinity, but if I recall correctly, you need to introduce an unsigned infinity to make this sort of operation work ~ otherwise it can lead to some funky conclusions. But I gladly defer to anyone who’s taken mathematical and/or logic theory more recently than I have to give a better/more correct explanation.
Anyhow.
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
Actually, thinking about it a bit more,
since you can’t have negative walks or strikeouts, a/0 = infinity probably works just fine.
So, yah, never mind.
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
yea i do remember something about a negative infinity
it was only 3 years ago…i should remember this better
Based on these comments...
…my guess is calculus/mathematics isn’t the only thing you haven’t done ‘in a while’.
Bzzzt. You can ctrl+F yourself.
I don’t need to…

What to do when Grillcheese is back off the DL?
If the Nefi we’ve seen so far is real, sending him down would be a felony.
DoMath has been pretty damn nice out o the ’pen.
The only bit of dead weight is Eddie… and I’m afeared he’s too important to ‘team chemistry’ to cut.
For once, we’ll have to have a good reliever do the I35 shuffle until 9/1.

smeh,
I forgot Stevie German- he’s the most likely one down when Grilli’s good to go.
Still, my point is valid. We have a good bullpen.
…would be nice to have a LOOGY that isn’t actually a ROOGY though.

I don't think German has options left
I imagine Grilli magically gets better September 1st once rosters expand

Good point
Didn’t think of that. And between Kins’ injury tendencies, Omah being old, and Arias being Arias, I can see them not risking Kraut at all.

What is up with Grilli? I didn’t realize he was hurt. Can we afford not to have him in the pen if he’s ready?

Could we possibly put JJ on waivers?
I noticed he wasn’t the one warming up when Nips was struggling, it was Do-Math. Think JJ has finally fucked up his way out of Wash’s favor?
And screw the waivers, just DFA Jennings and make me one happy Ranger fan.
Hopefully this IS the move when Grilli is ready.
Those IR numbers below require a new word that is ten times stronger than suck.

as much as i bitched about the bullpen to start the year
i must admit they have done a hell of a job reinforcing it, both internally and via shrewd waiver claims.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

Jenning's low ERA defies his WHIP.
Its just that all the runs that score on his watch are being charged to the pitcher he relieves.

I looked on the advance stats on the Rangers website
Could not find a listing for number of inherrited runners and the number that they allow to score. Anyone have a good site for this?

60% IR have scored
That is higher than Wright and Rupe last year.

glue it on a hammer, then whack Wash in the head with it anytime he brings JJ in with runners on.

Goodness
sure it’s just because some starters are injured or have been replaced, but when your pitching staff is comprised of ERAs of 2.63, 3.38, 3.62, 4.01 and Derek Holland’s learning curve this late in the season, wow.

AL rank in ()
………………….HR/9……………BB/9……………K/9………………FIP…………..ERA
2008………….1.10..(12)……..3.9..(11)………..6.01..(13)……..4.83..(13)…….5.37..(14)
2009………….1.09..(6)……….3.28.(4)…………6.08..(13)……..4.55..(11)…….4.19..(3)
The only significant improvement in the FIP related stats is in BBs. It is also interesting that thier HR rate is the same as 2007 but it has improved greatly relative to the league.

Thought this was cool
Ryan (FL)
Bud Norris, Derek Holland or Clay Buchholz?
Jim Callis (3:18 PM)
Holland.
Is that surprising?
I would take the full-time pitcher, and top rotation prospect in AA as well…
Buchholz
Callis is surprisingly down on him…

Couple Questions
1) If Chris Davis doesn’t come back up this season, will he have one year of service time or two?
2) I’m starting to get optimistic about Andrew Doyle and was wondering how the community views him.
And on Andrew Doyle
I invoke the Jeremy Cleveland Rule…
Never get too excited about what a polished college player does in short-season ball.

Tommy Hunter started out in Spokane.
He pitched a rather mundane 17.2 innings for the Indians. He made it to Arlington the next year. There are a few players down in Spokane that I watch. Doyle is one of them.

2009 Texas Rangers: Why The Hell Not Us?--ghtd36 on May 13, 2009
You should be
Based on the scouting reports: steal in the fourth, ranked as a third-rounder, 4-pitch sinker-ball guy (all solid-average) who could move quickly through the system and has a mid-rotation ceiling. And regarding AdMo’s use of that tired baseball homily: performance really does matter at every level. The significance of his performance thus far is his plus command, which continues a trend from his JR year. Why is that important? He had some command issues his sophomore year so it gives one confidence that his improved command as a JR was no accident and should be an attribute.
x
And regarding AdMo’s use of that tired baseball homily:
The Jeremy Cleveland Rule is a tired baseball homily?
I’m not saying, fwiw, that performance is unimportant. But 21 year olds from major college programs tearing it up in short-season ball isn’t enough to get me hot and bothered.
If Doyle continues to light it up in high-A next season, I’ll pay a lot more attention.
