Don't be dumb.
This is the exact reason Wash tries to ease rookies into their job…young guys get all geeked up too easy. Marteen going from A to AA is equivilant to jumping from AA to MLB. He will be fine.

He had absolutely zero left to prove in Hickraw.
You’d’ve rather sent him to Bakersfield?
I fail to see the reasoning behind leaving him in Hickory once he’d proven over a long stretch of time that he’d ownershipped the SAL.

Perez doesn't sound sharp
He just gave up a run already.
If he’s on a strict pitch count, he won’t make it past 2 innings.
It also sounds like he can't get
his pitches past the hitters, they seem to get a bat on everything in the strike zone.
Everything is up

At the game. Line looks bad, but most of the early hits were dinkers and rollers that found holes. Homer was crushed, though. Fastball command wasn’t there, but hitters were a bit behind him often. More later…

I noticed that walk number, too. And it was in the first inning.
And he still K’d two that same frame.

Last year’s big bonus guy in the 7th round. Local kid who got 600k has been pretty darn good for Spokane. He’s allowing too many hits but the rest of his peripherals are pretty good.
Tonight in Spokane so far:

1HR
Not too shabby.
I was just about to post the same thing
good reports on his plus Curve too. I think he’s got pretty decent velo. Should be nice to see who breaks out between him and Tulis next year as they are both about the same age.

STFU already with your knee-jerking bullshit.
Smoak has well under 200 PA’s in AAA after flying through the system and MaPe had one bad start.
Do you enjoy seeing players struggle? Or are you just naturally an asshole?

I sure hope so...
I don’t frequent the GDT’s often, but if I remember right, he’s the one yelling and screaming for everyone to be DFA’d after each AB or bad inning.
I hope it’s a bit, but even if it is, it’s annoying as shit to hear someone say Smoak and MaPe are already “epifails.”

Aside from the walk, he’ still the same:
Ian Kinsler pops out softly to shortstop Rex Rundgren.
Nick McBride (HS pitcher 5th Rounder) Signed
good stuff:

"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
good
Hopefully these start trickling in over the week as opposed to just a few more at the deadline. If we don’t sign at least 1 more HS pitcher, 1 HS 3B, and a Jabari (in addition to Purke/Scheppers, of course), I’ll be merely amazed at our draft class as opposed to being overwhelmed to the point of lunacy.
Great news
I think Purke and Scheppers are sure to follow. I worry more about some high-ceiling later in the draft though.
I propose a 5-year moratorium on trading any young Ranger pitchers who throw over 90 mph.
I still think Schepp wait's till December or January, but I expect Purke to sign.
I’d love to see Reggie Williams andLemke get done though.
I know I have a borderline unhealthy affinity for speedy center fielders, but I really want to see us bring Williams into the fold.
I know he’s raw, but reports say pure 80 speed on the kid along with good baseball aptitude, and pure 80 speed doesn’t grow on trees.
He’s pretty much a long shot to sign, though, right?

Yep on Scheppers
I suspect we will wait until after the rule 5 draft and drop drop someone from the 40 and give Scheppers a ML deal
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Errrmmm.... Why would we want to wait till after the Rule 5 draft and then drop someone from the 40?
The 40 Trumps All!!!
by thedirkatron on Aug 13, 2009 6:12 PM CDT up reply actions
You protect who you need to from the rule 5 draft
Then most likely teams either have full 40s or will have to trade you something for the guy you drop. For instance, instead of being able to select a guy like Kirkman for example in the draft based solely on draft order if you drop him after the draft and say a couple teams want him and try and claim him you can potentially work a trade and get a prospect back for him instead of losing him for nothing.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
But that kind of ignores the fact that they wouldn't have to keep him on the 25 all year long like they would if they rule-5'd him.
It’s much more likely a guy like Kirkman would get claimed off waivers when taking him off the 40 than he would when there’s all the strings attached with a rule 5 selection.
I mean, sure, you’d lose him for nothing as opposed to maybe being able to work out a trade, but what do you think you’re gonna get in a trade? Is a Hamburger really worth the risk? Not in my book.
The 40 Trumps All!!!

I think you could get a toolsy young guy in the low minors
And if you can get that and swap out Kirkman for Scheppers on the 40 I think it makes sense
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
I'm confused
If you run someone through waivers for the purpose of removing him from the 40, how can you trade him?
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland -Tom Grieve Rangers Minor League Player of the Year
Martin Perez - Nolan Ryan Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year
After a player clears waivers, you have 10 days to trade or send him to the minors.
with the player being able to reject the assignment and become a free agent?
I thought you had 10 days to
trade, release or submit him to waivers. Once he clears waivers, and if it is his first time being booted from the 40, he can be assigned to the minors.

Kris Davis might be trying to change his name to Kris W. Davis
he’s starting to take some walks. 2 more last night giving him 9 over the last 7 or so games. His 19 to 31 BB/K ratio is way, way better than the ratios he had previously in the minor leagues. I dont know if he’s changed his mechanics to fix his mass hole in his swing he had at the ML level this year, I think he has considering his K-rate isnt too bad, but the increased walks might be just as important if not more important to Chris’ development.
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
10% walk rate
in OKC. As he makes better contact he forces pitchers to throw differently. I think the walks are more effect than cause here, but it’s a good sign either way.

well, He didnt do this last year when he was making powerful contact

He twitters: Erlin to pitch Sat in AZRL, McBride won’t pitch for AZRL, MaxRam headed back to rejoin OKC-rehab done.
Good news on MaxRam...
hopefully he will have some good AB’s before the end of the season.

biggest disappointment this year
Max, CD or Main?
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland -Tom Grieve Rangers Minor League Player of the Year
Martin Perez - Nolan Ryan Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year
That's tough...
is there an option for all 3?
If you held a gun to my head and forced me to pick one I’d say Main, no Davis, no Main, no MaxRam, no Davis. Probably CD for me. Just because he performed so well at the ML level last year. I’m still a big believer of Main and MaxRam though, and seeing them falter like they have has really hurt too.
