I didn't say that

I’m not the biggest Porcello fan, though…and with the bevy of pitching prospects that I personally think are just as good if not better than Porcello, and the clear lack of top-of-the-line center field prospects we currently have, I’d rather have Borbon here to keep Josh out of CF and provide even better defense, plus be that spark plug at the top of the lineup that I think he can be, shifting Kinsler down and so on, and so forth…

this is my personal point-of-view

Borbon might be more useful to us going forward but if we had Porcello we could probably flip him for a Borbon equivalent PLUS another A grade prospect.

Top 5 teams in ERA in the AL

Obviously, he was banking on big years from Hamilton and Kinsler, but he showed he’s not going to go out of his way to pick up a big bat—for which we don’t have the money anyway. He’s going to go with young, inexpensive arms and hope that the offense has enough to win. I think this will be his strategy with the bats as well, but will take some time to show dividends.

I ain't gettin used to this

I said about a week ago that I thought Hamilton would turn on the engines for the run to the postseason…and I honestly feel Kinsler and Cruz will, too

yea, those three guys are all top echelon hitters in my mind

the numbers will show up and i think this is the time when they start hitting to those numbers. Of course, Cruz has already put up those type of numbers this year.

Hamilton is locked in and the power is still coming.

and really Kinsler's going to have a great stat line

at the end of the year when you look at the peripherals. It’s just that OBP and the horrible lull in his average after the first month + that’s going to drag them down.

But if he returns and puts up a little bit better #s than he currently has, finishes as a 30/30 guy with a .260 AVE and .830 OPS, I think most teams in baseball would kill for a 2nd baseman at that level that’s been playing above average defense.

It's funny how you mention Hank getting the hit

off of a reliever who’s only out was a sacrifice by Salty.

Yet you neglect to mention his choke job with two men on earlier in the third. An example of another big let down from your boy. Not to mention his K. (Although Byrd did his best to make Hank look good tonight.)

I applaud your stick-to-itness for Hank and he has done a good job in the past. This year is not his best and certainly not worth all the praise you give him. He doesn’t bunt, doesn’t sacrifice to the other field, and doesn’t look to get on base with a walk. He is a pure HR or K hitter. The only way he does get a hit is when his flailing swing misses and he just gets a piece of the ball for a pop up or one off the end of the bat for a fluke hit.

What bothers me the most about him is he absolutely refuses to adjust his swing for situational hitting. That comes across as selfish to me. Chicks dig the long ball, blah blah blah. The only person I’ve seen that work for is Ryan Howard.

Hank F sir, you are no Ryan Howard.

BP’s Christina Kahrl today on the Rangers:

“Given their needs, I wonder if it won’t be soon before they start giving thought to Chris Davis’s next opportunity, because as varied as their options are when it comes to manning the outfield and DH, Blalock’s killing them at first, and they’re basically out of alternatives there.”

Umm, I think Kahrl is more than just a "columnist/beat writer"

If that’s all she is, then Rob Neyer, Joe Sheehan, Will Carroll, Kevin Goldstein, and every other respected baseball analyst are just dismissed in the same way.

We have idiots in here

who dismiss Bill James upon occasion.

If Christina K thinks the Rangers would be better off with CDavis playing instead of Hank F the last 6 weeks or the next 6 weeks (while we’re in the throes of a post-season berth and trying to win games this year) then he/she has his/her head up their ass.

so anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot. Got it.

Disagree with Josey = head up ass

It’s simple.

Not at all, WTA

You can disagree with me but do so at your own peril. There’s a chance you could be right but a very good chance you won’t be.

We saw the 2009 Chris Davis Show and it was ugly unless you enjoy watching a major league player drown every night. It was beyond obvious that shoehorning him into the line-up every night was killing This Thing.

It’s also beyond obvious that Christine has not been watching the Rangers on a day-to-day basis and is formulating his/her opinion on the numbers he/she is seeing and doesn’t know how many big, clutch hits that Hank F has had since they stopped platooning him.

It’s also beyond obvious that you removed any and all doubt last night that your love of Blalock is so completely clouded that

Post fail

Josey-

Argue all you want about Blalock, but the facts are not on your side. He’s been the worst hitter on the team since the All-Star Break, and no amount of “clutch hits” can change that.

When you have to resort to making sexist cracks about sportswriters with a hell of a lot more credentials than you to back up your point, you’ve lost.

The Great Hank Blalock War is over, and you’re that Japanese soldier who’s holed up on his own lonely island, still fighting the Americans 20 years after the rest of his compatriots surrendered.

Per your take on The Great Hank Blalock War of June 2009 -

It would appear that the personal Lord and Baseball Savior of LSB, Jon Daniels, aka Little Boy Donuts, happens to still agree with Josey Wales.

Move forward, let the healing begin.

I'm very grounded on Blalock

and the inability to take a walk is unacceptable. He’s making too many outs (but so are Salty, Ham and Byrd) but he’s also had an inordinate number of big hits, probably more than anybody save MYoung since they stopped platooning him.

To deny that is foolish – see bking’s feeble attempt yesterday and the June Swoon came to an immediate end when Blalock started playing every day.

He’s also much better v LHs than CDavis (.143 batting average / .491 OPS) was this year and all he needed were more ab’s to prove it.

Would I rather have NJohnson on this team than Blalock? Absolutely.

Would I rather have Blalock than CDavis? Absolutely.

Perusing ESPN stats this morning

and I believe last night’s games are included it would appear that in the month of August -.

Hank F Blalock is tied for the team lead in HR (3) and is tied for the lead in RBI (6).

So if you add up what Hank F did in July ( 6 HR & 18 RBI) we see that since July 1 Hank F is tied with Face for the team lead in HR and leads the team in RBI.

Move forward, let the healing begin.

Feeble attempt my ass...

You didn’t even refute it except to meekly point out that I didn’t list Hank’s hits.

Good to see you’re coming around on the idea that Johnson should have replaced Blalock.

Again, the debate ISN’T whether or not Hank helped the team win some games in July – he did. The point everyone is making is that he’s doing more harm than good. For every clutch hit you parrot, he’s probably got a handful of failures in the clutch.

He's leading the team in HR & RBI

since July 1, dumbass and during that time, the team has gone 22-14 after staggering around 11-15 in a June Swoon.

Your attempt was beyond feeble because two of your examples were games where Hank F had the biggest hit.

I don't agree with everything Bill James says

(I think teams need closers but I hear what he’s saying) but I’ve never, ever dismissed him.

Ever.
