VICK ----> EAGLES

I just herd it on the rajio.

UPDATE: ESPN confirms

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4397938

Quarterback Michael Vick has signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, his agent, Joel Segal, confirmed to ESPN.com.

.

So what are your thoughts?  He's still suspended until the sixth game of the season or somethin' right?

What can you say... guy served his time.  Has a right to a job just like anyone else.

Not sure this really does anything as far as making the Eagles a greater threat to the rest of the division

He was a stupid 25 year old who made some mistakes in life. Surrounded himself with the wrong people and probably allowed his celebrity status and money take him down a not-so-great path.

With all that being said he killed a bunch of dogs. Which is awful. But they were dogs. Saying this is the path to serial killing? Care to prove the connection? A link would suffice.

Stallworth KILLED A MAN. He got in a car drunk and killed a man. And was in jail for 24 days.

you've never heard that serial killers often have started off torturing animals?

I’m not saying that Vick is going to wind up being a serial killer I am just saying that serial killers are infamous starting off on a small scale …killing animals..
Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy are two examples and I will find you a link for that….I can’t believe you haven’t heard that before. It goes beyond just “making mistakes”. He is a sick human being, there is something really messed up about what he did Hold for links.

I never said what he did wasn't wrong...

I’m just saying after everything that Vick went through, it doesn’t seem as if Stallworth is getting the same treatment. Part of that is probably the “star” factor of VIck though, and no one gives a damn about Stallworth. I don’t know why, because I never liked Vick (except in Madden 07, man he was the shizzle on that game) except now for some reason, I think he has learned his lesson. Of course, I’m a forgiving guy, so it’s probably just me.

Ahh, fuck

Yes, Stallworth got drunk and killed a person (who was jaywalking). Stallworth didn’t electrocute the guy or slam him down on the ground till he dies or drown him. Stallworth made a huge mistake but Vick premeditated everything. That said, Vick deserves a second chance as does everyone else.

Remember Red, hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.

A freak accident?

Was it a freak accident that all those jagerbombs hit Stallworth’s gut over and over and then he decided to get behind the wheel of an automobile and drive 50 through a 40 mph zone? His foot just magically hit the gas petal right?

Yes, a freak accident.....

because it is not a guarantee that because you drink that you will kill someone. The opportunity is presented thousands of times every night when people leave the bars but they aren’t all killing people. He killed the person because he had an accident. The accident had a greater chance of happening because he was intoxicated.

Survey question

Which have you done?

Driven 50 in a 40 mph zone?
Consumed alcohol and then got behind the wheel?

Forced your dog to fight, and, when he didn’t enjoy ripping his bro’s jugular out, body-bounced him on the ground repeartedly till he died from internal injuries?
Forced your dog to fight, and, when he didn’t enjoy ripping his bro’s jugular out, put him in a tub of water and then electrocuted him?
Forced your dog to fight, and, when he didn’t enjoy ripping his bro’s jugular out, put him in a tub of water, and hold his face down until he drowns?
Forced your dog to fight, and, when he didn’t enjoy ripping his bro’s jugular out, hit em w/ a bat a half dozen times?

Vick did all of these things, and when he wasn’t doing them, he complicitly authorized them or spectated while they occurred.

He is a sick piece of shit, and people that perpetrate crap like this typically aren’t that far off from doing similar acts, providing they have the means, to humans.

I was just talking to a guy a couple days ago who spent most of his life on a farm...

I had wondered how it was that they killed the cows. He told me that they took a gun and shot them in the head and they died instantly. So you’re trying to say what Vick did to these dogs is comparable to that?
Grooming animals to fight by puting them on steroids, not feeding them, doing whatever it takes to make them pissed off and vicious as hell and then throwing them into a ring with equally vicious dogs where they have no choice but to fight or die. They get mangled in the fight and suffer atrocious injuries and lose and then get picked up and flung against the ground repeatedly until they die a slow miserable death for absolutely no reason but sport and sick entertainment? You’re comparing that to a cow being shot in the head where it’s instant death. People have to eat. You have to kill them somehow but I don’t see how you can compare the two.

People don't have to eat animal flesh

they do it because they want to and enjoy it.

People don’t have to watch animals fight either, but they do it because they want to and enjoy it.

As long as we decide animals are here to serve us, I really don’t see the problem with chicken fighting or dog fighting or whipping horses in horse racing or monkey knife fighting or anything else folks decide to do.

well ok that's where we differ..

I’m no PETA member or anything but I feel strongly that animals should not be made to suffer horribly for peoples entertainment. Sticking swords on chickens and having them spear each other is kinda grotesque and I have a feeling half the audience would be missing teeth, just not my crowd.

Killing a cow instantly is much more humane and involves no suffering…but that’s just me. I love animals.

Actually,

I went to look it up, because I doubted that was the way they killed them. After all, the cost of bullets would add up.

It appears they hang them from their rear hooves, then slice open their carotid’s and have them bleed out.

those bolt guns used on cows are crazy

I had to kill a rabbit for food in survival training a while back. I felt kinda bad about it…you had to waive your “kill stick” slowly and quickly around the rabbit’s head several times to get him to relax or the meat would be too tough. Then you go for the blow to break the neck. And if you didn’t hit hard enough in the right spot the first time, you had to repeat. It was tough. And the eyes bugged out like in a cartoon or something. But it was for survival.

Somebody doing that kinda stuff for any reason other than for food is a little messed up I would say

I dont think hes ever done that, ever… its harder than it looks, it would take a lot for them to trust him during a game with that, those are easy turnovers that kill momentum in a NFL game,

Why did he "deserve a good chance to come back?"

I’m a defense contractor, and I can assure you there are many, many one strike and your out for life offenses.

Why is he deserving of a “good chance?”

On jobs, yours is a matter of the public good/national security

his is to entertain the people by being a pure athlete. Not the same.

I wouldn’t say he deserves a chance to come back, but I’d say he should have the right to come back – after all, he did his time and is considered reformed.

I'm a Va Tech alum

and I’m embarrassed to have gone to the same school as the Vick brothers. I used to wonder why Marcus couldn’t be more like his brother, as far as behavior was concerned. And then the whole dog fighting thing came out and I understood that Marcus was just like his brother.

I always thought

getting free tickets to preseason games was about the easiest thing to do in the world.

Personally, unless you are going with a ton of folks, I’d just try negotiating with the scalpers at the game. Most likely you will get 4 tickets together at much less than face. Season ticket holders get stuck with those damn preseason tickets and often give them away for nothing or sell them to scalpers for little.

I'm not surprised...

That station had a lot of promise and then….nothing. It was too Fan driven and not enough good analysis, just rednecks calling in and bitching about stuff they don’t know anything about.

Honestly?

What Vick did was wrong, no doubt. His crime (phrase it however you want: mistake, felony, etc.) was about as vile and heartless as it gets.

But he did his time. He paid his debt to society. The man deserves a second chance, and I, for one, am happy that someone gave it to him.

If I did something terrible, was completely remorseful, paid my debt to society and tried to straighten out my life, I’d want someone to give me a second chance, too.

I dunno about that completely remorseful part

given some of the quotes that made their way to PFT earlier this week.

And considering that he didn’t serve a minute of time for the actual crimes he committed, I’m not so willing to say ’He’s done his time, let’s put it past us’. I suppose you could say I forgive him for illegal wagering, but he’s still owes us one (to five) on the whole torturing and killing dogs thing.

Also, Fuck Gerald Poindexter.

If a guy with his backstory applied for a job where I work, I certainly wouldn't hire him

Would you?

He got his freedom back, and he’s free to work for anyone that’ll hire him. That’s the only thing he’s really entitled to. I fail to see how the NFL OWES him any second chances.

And can you substantiate that completely remorseful part, cuz I haven’t read anything that would support it.

Exactly

And with the way Goodell is trying to sanitize and clean the league you’d think he wouldnt want vick back in it.

Under what grounds?

The only options he’d have would be to sue over his suspension (and given that his actual suspension is roughly one quarter of what Adam Jones got for NOT spending time in prison, I wouldn’t think that’s a wise thing to bring up to the courts), or to accuse the teams themselves of collusion- and good luck with that.

As far as I could see at least, standard not-a-lawyer disclaimer applies.

Why would he win a lawsuit?

Any private entity can refuse to hire anyone for any reason provided it’s not discriminatory (for the most part). Vick has no “entitlement” to play in the NFL.

They might as well be, if any revenue dollars from his jersey sales are to be shared.

Fine - the NFL isn't hiring him

But another private entity is (or is not). There’s no “right” to a job. Dairy Queen could tell him to fuck off and there normally isn’t anything he could do.

Yeah, if every NFL team said fuck off, that's fine.

I just think the NFL would have a hard time banning him for life. Considering Leonard Little still plays in the NFL.
