Simmons on USA/Mexico
Fabulous read.
Saw lots of comments on here for that game, whose outcome was totally immaterial to me (at the time).

wow, thanks for pointing me to that article
i always like reading simmons, Im really glad he went to that game and is getting into soccer. There arent enough big time US journalists concious of the sport. Really a great piece and a great read. I, like him, have only really been a soccer follower ever since the last WC, but its probably my favorite sport to watch when US plays a big match. And I agree, that it does certaintly seem like the US is becoming much more soccer concious.

Way back in the day ...
went on a few trips around Mexico on a shoestring budget.

I read through most of it
and it’s good writing, good read. The one point that I’d take issue with is his statement that Mexico is better at soccer than the US. They like soccer a lot more than us, but our national team has had comparable and more success in recent years. Not sure how else you’d compare these two countries, considering how different the role of the sport is in each.
