Are you from Liverpool?
I still haven’t been to Anfield but am planning to go next spring. I went to the LFC/Villa EPL season opener in August ‘07 (2-1 win on Gerrard’s late winner). But that was at Villa. Awesome game though and I was in the LFC road section which was intense.
I had tickets in the owner’s box and my flight booked for the Chelsea CL semi-final game at Anfield in ’08 (the Riise own goal game) but had to cancel at the last minute due to a family emergency.

I’m gonna have to get to Anfield before the new stadium opens- about half the guys in the local supporters’ group have been, and they all say it’s one of the best experiences they’ve ever had.

Alabama/Liverpool
I only lived in Alabama for the first three years of my life, so I don’t have a lot of ties to the state other than being born there. I do root for the Tide, though, as my school (UTA) had no football team, and it was a fun way to piss off my dad, who’s a huge Mississippi State fan. Plus I really liked Bear Bryant as a kid.
I also root for the Longhorns in football only. Baseball and basketball, I stick to my alma mater.
As for Liverpool, I got into following the EPL in August 2005 at the urging of two friends from work- one’s a West Ham/PSV Eindhoven fan; the other supports AC Milan. Liverpool and Birmingham are my two favorite cities in England (mostly because I like a lot of bands from both) so I’d pretty much decided to support Liverpool or Aston Villa after reading about the histories of the two clubs. After seeing Liverpool win the Super Cup against CSKA Moscow, and learning what an insane fan base they had, I knew I’d found my club.

How did you become an LFC fan?
That ‘07 game was the only EPL game I’ve been to. This was the Gerrard winner. We were a few rows of where he slides after the goal in that video.
The wildest reactions I’ve ever seen in American sports are from big SEC football games I’ve been to. But the reaction to that goal in our section (simply in a season opener) was 10x crazier. Just unreal.
