Texas? Hamilton, Byrd, Murphy? …or…

How about

The Rangers completed a trade with the Houston Astros on Tuesday to reacquire the 14-time All-Star catcher for three players. The Astros will receive Class A pitcher Matt Nevarez and two players to be named, one of whom is reportedly Double-A infielder Jose Vallejo.

No
He re-entered the draft but was a regular first rounder. The Nats picked Drew Storen with the comp pick they received for not signing him, which is why the Rangers picked 14th, not 13th, which was their actual draft slot.

JD started looking for a catcher as soon as Salty went on the DL.
Wanted someone with playoff experience. Scouts very high on Pudge. Bat should play better with more rest. ’Stros had very good reports on his prep with pitchers.
On Purke, won’t get into specifics, could come to an agreement, Rangers made an outstanding offer.

The authors indicate that there were a fair amount of spies in the State Department and elsewhere, but McCarthy generally did a lousy job of figuring out who they were.
Seems to establish pretty definitively, though, that Whittaker Chambers and Elizabeth Bentley told the truth.
