and I don’t get it. It was painful to watch Davis struggle like he did, but at least he has a future with this team.

We will fix this...

Since Davis is hurt, per JD’s comment, I have hope something will be done when he heals up.

and Wash is staring at a OF cluster-frank if he decides to keep him when Cruz is ready.

and at this point we HAVE to keep him up.

I mean we might send him down for a few days then call him back up on Sep. 1st, but the point is, Borbon NEEDS to be leading off for this team at least against Righties, and I’d say full time

If Cruz is ready

you either DL or DFA JJennings and try to get by with this staff until help comes on September 1.

Somebody is going to lose serious playing time if that happens because Byrd, Josh, Cruz would be the givens so what happens to Murphy if Borbon is here?

I guess you could roll Murphy over to 1B but he can’t hit LH pitching and what about AJones?

Interesting decisions coming up.

I don't see how Byrd is a given

36 doubles and all. He’s been pretty good for us, but not great, and he’s not a Cruz/Hamilton talent, so I wouldn’t include him. I’d say the guys that need to play every day are Cruz and Hamilton; the guys that should play more than the rest of the fillers are Borbon and Byrd; Murphy’s just a tad behind those two, so yeah it’s a tough decision, and keeping Andruw Jones and Hank, calling up Davis, there are going to be some difficult lineup management decisions to make. But that’s the beauty in this…

We can play splits a bit more now; we can put a lineup out there that smashes, or a lineup that kills you with “small ball” and OBP, or a lineup that mixes the two.

.480/.536/.520 with a perfect 8 for 8 stealing bases and scoring every other time you get on base is a pretty “pinch me I’m dreaming” start for the kid. He has been nothing short of fantastic, both at the plate, on base, and in the field…

Borbon struck out 4 times that Sunday and was unable to get bunts down twice. On top of that, he had an epic baserunning F up at a critical stage of the game (that ended up not hurting us).

Since then he’s done much better and was a nice factor in the Boston series.

A .367 obp (with no power) in AAA is okay (probably translates to .330ish in The Show) but I’m not sure he’s ready to play everyday yet but I like his future.

we won 7-0

He had a bad game. So what. Like nadel said during the game yesterday if he can just slap the ball to the left side he will carve out a long and successful career for himself. And he stole 3 bases last night on one of the best catchers in baseball. I find it funny how you harp on one bad game for borbon but fail to mention anything about your boy shitting the bed the last week and going hitless in the biggest series of the year so far.

Nadel also said last night

that Borbon didn’t get a good read on the ball hit (by Young?) up the middle and made another baserunning mistake.

I’m bullish on the future of Jules Borbon. I like some of the things he’s done but I’m not sure he’s ready yet.

Nadel said...

Borbon hesitated because he was waiting to see if the pitcher made a play on the ball and then apparently the SS was shaded up the middle so he may have had a chance on it.

I didn’t see the play i was driving at the time so i have to go by what nadel described. But if thats true its not the colossal mistake you make it out to be. Plus 1st and 3rd no out is still a run scoring situation. You focus way too much on the little shit

The worst sight as a Ranger fan this year

has been Hank’s weak dribbles to 2nd base and Ian’s pop ups into left center. Ian has corrected his for the last 2 weeks. Hank has not. How is this not a simple observation? Even Manny fucking Ramirez can hit oppo or take a walk. I do not get it. At all. Hank is done after this year.

There have been exceptions

But twice through a lineup sure seems like Scooter’s boundary. For all the raves about his cutter, he is still hittable unless he has a night with plenty of sink. And he, like every other pitcher alive, is not going to be “on” every time out. Dunno, maybe he can’t adjust like Millwood and Hunter seem to be able to do.

Hank and Byrd in the 9th.....

Down by 3 runs, neither was the tying yet, yet both made sure to hack at the 1st pitch they saw.

Until you are the tying man at the plate, you’ve got to take until there’s a called strike in that situation.

That, in a nutshell, is why I hate both of those fags and will be glad when they are playing elsewhere in 2010. That’s not “winning baseball”. That’s just stupid and selfish.

Don’t care about his ERA or FIP. He has allowed an earned run or an inherited runner to score in 26 of his 42 appearances this year. That sucks for a middle reliever.

Not a banner night from Hank F but very far from the reason the team lost the game tonight.

To say “There are two players on this roster I just can’t watch any more, and I can’t even bring myself to mention the second one” ,,,,really? Fuck you.

Didn’t hear a word from him when Davis started the season 1 for 22. Nary a peep during the 4 for 48 in late May/early June. Not Jack Schitt along the way to a sweeeeeeet 3 for 25 before his ass was shipped to OKC (when he had a .256 obp).

The problem with banging the drums in an attempt to sway public opinion is that JD doesn’t have the onions to do anything other than stand down.

Except the fact that Davis is a young player and has a future with this team...

I couldn’t see how the Rangers possibly re-sign Blalock. And the age difference/time in the league is a little substantial. It was hard to watch Davis, but was easier to watch that than a struggling (I’m being kind here) seasoned veteran who won’t be here next year.

Just so we know -

From May 16-July 5, CDavis went 23 for 137 (.168) with 61Ks and hit 5 HR & 12 RBI

From July 1- August 18, Hank has gone 41 for 170 (.241) with 45Ks and 9 HR & 26 RBI

Have the lack of walks from Blalock been a problem? Oh yeah.

Has his defense at 1B been better than expected, dare I say “good”? Absolutely.

Did the team play much better when the positive changes were made? 26-16 sez it all.

If you have an agenda, you can isolate Blalock’s numbers and find some really ugly stats (the post AS Break stats are staggering) but on the whole, Blalock’s last 49 days have been significantly better than CDavis’ last 49 days in The Show.

by mikeyoungfuturehof on Aug 19, 2009 8:40 AM CDT up reply actions

The problem is

that CDavis was terrible beginning in spring training and so profoundly bad at the end (pitchers brazenly throwing 90 mph heaters right by him) plus the games now mean too much to find out IF (because we don’t know) Davis is better now.

If the Rangers were 16-26 and coming off their worst month of offense in the history of the team (which they were with Davis playing almost every day in June) and out of any post-season contention, hell yes I’d bench Hank for Davis because I can’t stand bad teams playing olds in front of youngsters but that’s not the case.

Next spring, Hank will be gone and Davis (whose future I like but used to love) can fight it out with JSmoak but the team is playing quite well right now and there’s no reason to upset the present chemistry.

I also hope CDavis is great next year.

by diamond_dave on Aug 18, 2009 11:28 PM CDT reply actions

Here is playoff roster rules

Playoff Rosters: Playoff rosters must be set at 25, not including disabled players, on August 31. For each player on the 60-day DL, teams may add players to the eligible list during the playoffs at the same position, provided that they were in the orginization on August 31… Teams must choose 25 players from their playoff eligible list before each round of the playoffs.

by diamond_dave on Aug 18, 2009 11:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes

Which means that the 25 guys on August 31st, plus the guys on the DL (both 15 and 60 day) are eligible. Once the playoffs start you must choose a 25 man roster from those players. Now for a guy on the 60 day DL you can replace him with someone of the same position as long as they were in the organization before August 31st.

For instance, Eric Hurley is on the 60 day DL. We could put him on the playoff roster and then substitute another pitcher, even if they weren’t on the active roster on August 31st, in his spot.

Gracchus (about Obama): I think he knows what America is. America is the mob. Conjure money for them and they'll be distracted. Take away their freedom and still they'll roar. The beating heart of America is not the paper of the Constitution, it's the power of the media. He'll bring them debt - and they will love him for it.

Mauer has the higher wOBA for this year though.

Actually a good bit higher after last night. .464 to .451.

Ridonkulously good.

Well we know what it look like for 2004-2008

Its going to take more than a 13 point edge in mid august to dethrone pujols.

the preceding post was a great success.

I find it ironic that your handle is Kdavis

and your avatar makes fun of Hank “The Void” Blocock

by texasraider on Aug 19, 2009 9:12 AM CDT up reply actions

Or

that the Texas Rangers had their worst offensive month in the history of the team (worse than the ’72 Rangers who collectively hit .217 for the year) this past June with CDavis playing almost every day.

That’s why he’s in OKC and the team is riding out Hank’s latest bad streak.

Bad streak?

When did that start/last one end?

He blows.

Have you actually heard anyone talk like they have forgotten it??

Seems like everyone talks about it a lot, especially juxtaposed against Hank’s current helplessness. The kid was awful, and got far too long of a leash which led to the ‘historically awful’ numbers, but (a) his numbers weren’t significantly worse than what Hank is sporting these days, and (b) by all accounts he seems to have corrected a great many things at AAA since the demotion.

We KNOW that Hank hasn’t corrected, or seemingly attempted to correct, anything noticeable.

It may well be a case of the grass being greener, but there’s a fair amount of evidence to support the willingness to find out. Personally, I think the only reason it hasn’t already happened is the perception in the room. Players always seem to be the last one to bail on a failing teammate, and rightly so.

Personally, I think management is truly staring at the calendar and PRAYING they make it to Sep 1 so they can call Davis up and give him a try without upsetting anyone.

I want a ps3 just for Fat Princess

Damn useless XBL with it’s terrible original content.

There will have been 3 XBLA games with better reviews than fat princess within the past few weeks

Once shadow complex comes out tomorrow. Other two would be ’splosion man and trials hd.

the preceding post was a great success.

I'd rather not buy a console with a 54 percent failure rate

yuck

PS3 Slim for me…good games AND a Blu-Ray player? Count me in.

Well, you got the Blu-Ray player part right.....

the good games?? not so much….

Let's hope the second half will be as good as the first half has been.

to each his own

I’ll take MLB 09 The Show, Infamous, Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5, MAG, Uncharted 2…etc

Oh and I’ll enjoy not having to spend $100 for a WiFi connection that should be included anyways. I don’t play online much, but Playstation Network gets the job done

Too each his own though…if you want to play 360 go right ahead.

Geez, fanboy nonsense right here

they are both good.

the preceding post was a great success.

by DShep on Aug 19, 2009 7:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Do you think it's even remotely possible that Davis could prove

to be even worse… especially in much higher pressure situations than he has ever faced given a playoff race? And in addition to possibly being even worse at the plate (as he was for half a season this year), could there also potentially be additional baggage from being a young player needing extra support and encouragement off the field?

by Texas_Dawg on Aug 19, 2009 9:35 AM CDT up reply actions

worse?

you mean like returning to fulfill his destiny as the destroyer of the franchise?

Justice Column from the Chron

I wonder how much offense Pudge has left in the tank.

The Astros did not get overwhelmed with talent. Second baseman Jose Vallejo hasn’t hit at Triple-A, but scouts do like him. The Astros got a couple of interesting prospects, nothing more. Considering the quality of their farm system, they made out OK. Drayton’s comments made it seem like he thinks the Astros are still a contender and that Pudge can still play. Who is he kidding? First of all, Pudge is no longer a great player. He hasn’t even been a good player in recent weeks, hitting .239 since June 1 and with one walk and one extra base hit in his last 67 plate appearances.

Sucks to be Houston right now.
