Sunday Rangers stuff
Rough game yesterday.
Jeff Wilson says that Tommy Hunter's struggles in his start were due to his inability to locate his fastball.
Kevin Millwood, who was supposed to start today, then was bumped to Monday, is being bumped again, as he's continuing to have issues with his glut. Dustin Nippert will start on Monday. Frankie Francisco, meanwhile, is apparently going to be activated today or tomorrow. Presumably, Warner Madrigal gets sent down to make room for him.
Gil LeBreton has a column up on the Rangers' failure to make a move at the trade deadline.
And Jeff (the writer) Miller has a good story up about Justin Smoak and Neftali Feliz, and the week they spent as the constant subject of trade talk.

Feliz is about to be called up

Some dude, “jeffbrown” over at the Newberg board is spewing rumors that Neftali is coming up today. He said he talked to him last night leaving the OKC game and he said he was coming up. Any truth to this or just some blow hard?

Cool
Bumps Madrigal back to AAA. Who is the odd man out when Frankie gets activated?

ummmm
Nippert? Maybe that is why he is making the spot start tomorrow?

Hope not
There is no way in hell Nippert makes it through waivers

Oh yeah...
out of options. Damn I suck today, I’ll just shut up now.

Harrison probably goes on the 60-day

probably drop Madrigal for Feliz and then Arias for FF

And go back to an 8 man bullpen?
Kinsler still isn’t healthy.

probably not
going to send Arias down until Kinsler is healthy though. I imagine Kinsler is probably a day or two away and he comes back when Frankie does.

Yeah
With Mathis only going one inning last night I think we have three roster moves coming soon.
Madrigal down when Frankie is activated
Millwood to DL and Mathis called up
That leaves Feliz. If Kinsler is healthy then Arias gets optioned to make room on the 25 and Harrison to the 60 day DL to make room on the 40.
I don’t think Feliz comes up until then otherwise someone would have to get cut

why isn’t Harrison not already on the 60 day? He is about to undergo season ending surgery if he has not already had such. Is there a reason for not already having him on the 60 day?
I soloed in the Mile High Club!
My opinion
Once the season is over all players on the 60 day DL have to go back to the active roster. So unless you have someone to take that roster spot you might as well keep Harrison in it.

He’s a big OKC fan and usually is pretty accurate when he posts things like this. I would trust him if he says so.

I've never seen a post by Jeff that didn't turn out to be true.
He pretty much just posts breaking stuff.
I posted that a few minutes ago at the end of last night's wrapup thread.
TR now has it on his blog.

I hope he is at the ballpark tonight and his first pitch is 101 right by Ichiro.

Any chance the ball is thrown so hard that it leaves the stadium all together...
and lands in Angels stadium, like an atomic bomb of awesome?

GODDAMNIT
Not only do I have to go out of town on Newberg Night, I LIKELY MISS NEFTALI’S FIRST GAME?
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Or in my situation
The Rangers play tonight but are not on ESPN, meaning I can not watch them at all thanks to MLB’s blackout rules.
How long did it take
Holland to get into his first game after he ws called up? I doubt Feliz pitches tonight.

He was switched to the bullpen so he could get used to pitching late game situations. If one presents itself tonight I bet we see him

Regardless of its obvious flaws, Ron Washington said the offense will be fine, especially if Josh Hamilton and Kinsler return to form.

This offense has its share of problems, but...
a) a return to form for both Kinsler and Josh will pretty effectively mask those problems.
b) what is Wash supposed to say? “Gee I need some new guys that can work a pitcher”???

I’m gonna punch a hooker in the foot.

right now
More than ever, Hamilton needs to have Washington’s confidence in him. I think Hammy’s time away from the game earlier in the season made him slump at the plate. Once he did that, I think he lost confidence in his swing. Keep battling man. Although, it still puzzles me that he had his swing down when he had a 4 year layoff, and a month stretch seems to hurt him this year. not sure what is a matter.

The Orioles closed the deficit to the Red Sox from 7-0 to 7-6 in a hurry
I’d made a graphic of the Rangers logo with a fork stuck in it but I guess it might be too soon to post it

9. Rangers’ defense – You can certainly see why the Rangers are so much better this year. They had allowed 25 unearned runs entering yesterday, as opposed to 107 last season. This reminds one of Atlanta from 1990-91 and Tampa Bay from 2007-08, when defense helped those teams improve, especially their pitching. The Rangers tried to get Roy Halladay, but president Nolan Ryan refused to give up lefthander Derek Holland.

Roy Halladay’s trade value dropped by 30 to 40 percent, in Olney’s estimation. He has a hard time seeing them trade Halladay before the July 2010 trade deadline. Wouldn’t it be fun to relive the drama all over again a year from now?

Hunter's First Inning Is Bugging Me!
The first inning just killed Hunter yesterday, especially Griffey’s AB. Hunter gets ahead of Griffey 0-2. At this point, a good pitcher would’ve put him away. This year, Griffey is 2 for 18 with O BB and O HRs when he falls behind 0-2—but then Hunter proceeds to lose him, throw a wild pitch, and give up a homer.
Outside of those first 3 hitters, I thought Hunter did pretty well. Although he gave up 2 more runs, and had runners on every inning, he showed he could be tough even without his best stuff, striking out 5 with some ultra-nasty change-ups. I’m still a believer.
