Christian Santana is on a tear
2 for 2 and a BB so far with another HR
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
I have the reverse jinx down to a science.

too little, too late with him
He’s still striking out more than any prospect not named Mendonca. I’m definitely in show-me mode with Santana.

Too bad he's in the 'Show Me... to the Buffet' mode with his conditioning regimen.

Maybe he and Whittleman
can open a restaurant together. It will be open 24 hours a day for a few weeks with rave reviews, and then suddenly close for a couple of months with no warning and rumors of food poisoning.

Another dismissive wanking motion after reading about Crist’s HR in game two.

GrillCheese49: At Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco for rehab stint. Ironic facing Tulsa -Rockies affiliate after they traded me. Life is funny like that.
The 2009 Texas Rangers offense: sigh...
He'll probably start then.
Go an inning or two – then Kiker will take over and start walking people.
box score looks fugly for KK
4 hits and 2 runs against only 1 out.
"You can probably stick a fork in the Rangers' playoff chances for 2009." - AJM on 7/26 with the team 4.5 games out
Hes been bad lately
And the other time this year his start got interupted by a rehab start he sucked also. Don’t know if that means anything just interesting
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
It means he doesn't want to be a reliever
Not sure if it means that, but it sounds good.
The Rangers have rolled up the welcome mat and bludgeoned the Angels with it. - Josh Lewin
wow
Munchkin Leury Garcia just hit his first HR of the season [first pro HR maybe?!] in the bottom of the 9th to tie the Hickory game. Furious comeback by your mudbugs.
Boscan got smacked around in Hickory
Fredo has not looked good lately. Every time he’s been asked to go beyond an inning he’s allowed runs over his last seven starts.
the damage must have all occurred in the 4th
His line looked very good thru 3.

college player
someone to watch if/when he makes it to Frisco
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland -Tom Grieve Rangers Minor League Player of the Year
Martin Perez - Nolan Ryan Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year
I think he was a college MIF'er
At Hickory he played lotsa 1B because they needed somebody there. He’s in LF tonight for BAK and has a HR. I know he’s old and a college guy and not very prospecty at all, but is he like a Freel-type athlete or more like a Steve Murphy-type guy or more like Adam Fox? What tier is his utilitarianism?
[Velaszquez just hit a HR, btw]
SS at Missouri?

he was a 2B at KU
four year guy…drafted really late (44th round?)…pretty good offensive numbers in school, but never really a standout guy.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
that's great to see
unfortunately he’ll have to spend next year in Hickory…

who is the better prospect?
Velazquez or Engel Beltre?
"You can probably stick a fork in the Rangers' playoff chances for 2009." - AJM on 7/26 with the team 4.5 games out
Right now id have to go with Beltre
He is two full levels ahead of Velazquez and over a year and a half younger
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
i bet 'tron can do it in three
not a prospect.

kinda what I'm expecting
The thing is … the Hickory radio guy was going on and on not long ago about how a scout told him he can’t believe Morrison was a 47th-rounder or whatever and that he looks like a can’t miss major leaguer blah blah blah. Just wondering if Tron could figure out why a scout would say something like that.
he's certainly off to a nice start
in Bakersfield. Still, I wouldn’t get too excited about him.

Anyone got some thoughts on
Jonathan Greene, the new Frisco 3B?
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland -Tom Grieve Rangers Minor League Player of the Year
Martin Perez - Nolan Ryan Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year
HIs first AA hit was a towering short HR
As he rounded first base I looked in the Frisco dugout and it was pandemonium in there – turns out they were setting him up for the cold shoulder. When he touched home and headed to the dugout he found no greeting and everybody just ignoring him for a few seconds. Then they all jumped up and started pounding him congrats. Pretty cool.
Greene
profiles a little like Tracy, does he not? At least on the offensive side of his game…
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
Yes
He has been pretty encouraging at third base this year, though. At least he was in the three games I saw in Modesto. Making some improvements. Lots of raw power, particularly for his size. His plate discipline is below average and he’s very streaky, but he’s got some talent.
More than likely he’s just a good organizational power hitter, but he has the talented to do some more.
anyone else notice the masterpiece Richard Bleir had the other night
8.1 IP with 17 GO to 3 FO i think… also had 0 BB. That guy has actually maintained some really nice peripheral stats. only 19 BBs in over 100 IP at high A with a really good GB ratio. I kind of expect him to have a real nice year as 23 yr old in AA next year, him and Kennil both
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
we've talked a lot about Bleier and Gomez
with varying degrees of bullishness being shared about their chances of stepping up next year in Frisco. Bleier doesn’t have the K rate Gomez has but has much better control, so while Gomez probably has more potential, Bleier is probably the safer bet to at least reach the big leagues.
Tonight, Tanner Roark pitched a nice game for Bakersfield. He has been largely ignored, but a year after being drafted he’s now held his own in Bak after seeing some time in Frisco. Those three guys will hopefully be a big part of the Frisco rotation next year, and while they’re not as sexy as Kiker, Poveda and Beavan, they could easily have just as much success.

JC Twittage
Lots of stuff coming tomorrow. Back in AZ. Michael Main is back in Arizona as well. Says he’s over the sickness.
Erlin and Escobar should pitch tonight – I assume JC will get to see them and report back.
Hey shroomer
Do you think Rangers will challenge Main with AFL? This way this season will not be completely wasted, and he can regain some of his prospect status. Also, he will get some consistent innings in to build up to the level to continue his development.
Same question with Beltre, but I think they will be more careful since he is so young.
not shroomer
I think there is an AFL rule that the players must have been at AA level or above. I could be remembering that wrong though.
"You can probably stick a fork in the Rangers' playoff chances for 2009." - AJM on 7/26 with the team 4.5 games out
i think you get
at least one exception…
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
Doubt he does the AFL
but he might do the AFL2 – which is the remnants of the dismantled Hawaiian Winter League of yore.
And like Tricer’s talking about – IIRC only one below-AA guy can go to the AFL. Doubt they’d spend that on Main.
who do you think
that would be pegged for, then? The only that pops into my head is Evan Reed
my possible group:
Pitchers:
Tanner Roark (he’s bounced around with teams and roles, but his numbers look good)
Pedro Strop (he’ll be added to the 40 after a strong finish, but a strong AFL showing could give him a leg up in ST
Corey Young or Evan Reed
Hitters:
Moreland and Smith if they’re healthy, and maybe Jonathon Greene, or maybe give Chad Tracy another shot?
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
Max
Dinger tonight, 2-4. Like that…
