Whenever I see the last name Hurley, I get a little excited
Then I do a double take, then I sort of sigh.
Who remembers when that dude used to be our top prospect?
well
Trevor does have a really nice slider and, if he makes it to AAA (as a starter), he’ll make it there with a swing and miss changeup unlike his namesake…
good stuff by John
I sure wish Madrigal would remember to bring his stuff with when he gets called up.
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland -Tom Grieve Rangers Minor League Player of the Year
Martin Perez - Nolan Ryan Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year
He just needs to be given a chance
to gain confidence by not being move back and forth between OKC and the Rangers next year.

Sickels remarks on Gentry
Got me to thinking, if you could only have one of Brandon Boggs/Craig Gentry on the 40, isn’t that a little bit of a tough call? Gentry has an edge in health, defensive value, speed, contact, and youth. Boggs has an obvious edge in power and a slight edge in OBP skill it appears, but with Bogg’s injury history and Gentry’s plus defensive CF skills, I think Gentry might be a better keep.
Also, is next year make or break for Golson as far as the 40? Is his 40 spot in any danger this winter?

I had similar thoughts
when I read John’s remarks. Too bad Gentry didn’t get a chance in AAA this year. I think there is a good chance he gets taken in the Rule 5 draft.

All this AFL talk made me curious
So I fired off an email to ask about the AFL2 league. I was told – not this year, hopefully next year it’s in place. To compensate for the lack of low-level domestic winter ball, franchises will be allowed to assign 2 A-ball players instead of 1 in 2009. So, well, there ya go.

ah, thanks Shroom
as always.
Thats a good thing cuz we probably have several guys who need a look in the AFL
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
Christian Santana with 2 more bombs tonight
That’s 6 in his last 5 games.
"You can probably stick a fork in the Rangers' playoff chances for 2009." - AJM on 7/26 with the team 4.5 games out
kind of getting ridiculous
i hope he figures out how not to strike out, cuz he obviously has some pop
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
Eddy Escobar
with 4 shutout innings tonight. I’m really interested by this guy.
His peripherals look pretty damn sexy, especially when you consider the .383 babip. And then when you remember that he is 17 and striking out 10+ per nine and limiting the walks to less than 3 per nine….
Looks like he needs to figure something out to help against RHB, but I think he is a legit prospect whose ceiling we won’t know for at least a couple more years.

hope someone posts any Jason Cole observations on E^2 here
I think he was supposed to be at the game.

LoneStarDugout: Edwin Escobar is about 86-88 tonight, touched 91. He was 88-91 in his last outing. I’m a big fan.

86-88?
Why would anyone be a big fan of that?

My quick research shows Escobar only got $100,000
That was my whole point on that issue was the large signing bonus
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
damn
did we really give Ahn $800,000?

No
it’s was about 200,000

If I recall correctly
there are a bunch of incentives in the deal that can get his bonus way up there as/if he moves up the organizational ladder.
Thanks

early returns don't look good on Ahn
at least the stats don’t look good. At all.

Also
Robbie Erlin takes the mound with massive dust storm ongoing. Can’t believe they’re playing through this. http://twitpic.com/et05a

haha, that should be fun
if he can play in that, i think he can deal with the Texas Heat and jetstream, no?

and
Now he’s pitching through sideways rain. http://twitpic.com/et1ic

Why?
We already have enough raw young pitching talent.
What this system needs is more balance.
Damn the best player available strategy… we need a more well rounded system, dagnabbit!!!
Overall system depth >>>> BPA, imo.

I'd love to get Steal Home arguing with Finnerty
vis-a-vis their opposing viewpoints- Steal Home railing on about always taking a pitcher in the draft, Finn hating the pitcher we take because they’re 5-10 lefthanders who throw low 90’s as opposed to the 6’+ righthanded guys who throw high 80’s that he loves.
AJM could really stop hawking divorces all day if he could make crap that like that into pay-per-view.

And with that, Adam could make it a real blog
Instead of a collection of other people’s links. Because we know that’s all he really does right now.

Well
We can look forward to when Robbie’s growth is aggressive enough for such a fine stache.

Beavan has 2 k's through 2 so far.
Meaning he probably won’t have any more the rest of the game.
Well that was surprising.
Ended up with a 7/5/0/0/1/2 line.

needs to be on a flight to Tampa.
