Crush is Back!

The Rangers are expected to call up first baseman Chris Davis and add him to the roster when they open a three-game series with the Yankees in New York on Tuesday.

Davis is expected to play regularly at first base, meaning Hank Blalock would likely be a platoon DH or simply be a bat off the bench. Blalock is hitting .180 with a .204 on-base percentage and a ,337 slugging percentage for the month of August.

Davis is hitting .327 with six home runs and 30 RBI in 44 games and 165 at-bats since being sent back to Triple A Oklahoma City at the end of June. He has a .418 on-base percentage and a .521 slugging percentage.

The Rangers would have to make a corresponding roster move to make room for Davis but he is coming back to the Major Leagues for the stretch run and manager Ron Washington made it clear that he will be used at first base.

So happy

about time we’ll get some offensive productivity at 1B. I can’t believe that Blalock will be relegated to platoon DH. I am all for it, I just find it hard to believe that that’s how it will go down. I hope so though, I hope so!

Davis

Now, the Great Hank Blalock War of 2009 IS over.

Welcome back, Crush. I just want you to know, we’re all counting on you.

Man, you are optimistic. I would ecstatic if we win series, in NY

I'm tired of hearing about team chemistry. You are telling me these fuckers wouldn’t like to have a teammate that could actually help the team win, instead of being down 2-4 spots.

i just want the win of the series

but it is nice that we are going to miss CC Sabathia and AJ Burnette

I don't mind so much

Did you see his last outing? Hammy, Young and Davis will light him up.

Happen to miss Burnett's last start against us?

This is roughly the same group of guys.

Let’s put it this way, if Burnett does better than a (6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K) line, we will know that this team is not making any adjustments at the plate.

Or at the very least, isn’t watching any tape.

It will make an interesting move on roster?

Pitcher? Murphy to DL?

Can't afford to send a pitcher down.

Murphy to the DL is an option. I am sure he could be convinced he need to go on the DL.

now it's time

for Crush to Crush. I hope Rudy doesn’t come within 10 yards of him. Of course, there’s probably no risk of that happening, since they dont really have that rapport together that the veterans like blalock have with Jaramillo.

My guess: Andruw Jones to DL

Nadel made a comment today that Jones has been playing on a bad hammy, and “can’t run at all”. I think that’s good enough to DL him without anybody’s panties getting in a wad.

10 day rule

Evan chimes in at Insidecorner on the 10 day rule and Sept. 1.

@Jack: Free Chris is correct. He’d have to be optioned for at least 10 days or until the season is over. Only problem is none of the full-season teams end their season until the first weekend of September, so right now an option would be the best move. Now if we can just get him to clear up the playoff roster confusion.

I don’t think a player can be optioned to the short-season teams because of age restrictions in those leagues, but I’m not 100 percent on that. If Jamey is out there, he could clear that up.
