OT: Cowboys video board
It’s to NFL specs, so, why is it such a touchy issue with everyone in the media and for other teams?
Isn’t this like the flag pole in Houston, or the catwalk in Tampa, or the Ivy in Wrigley? Can’t this be a ‘home field’ advantage for us? Other NFL stadiums have weird little quirks, look at Denver and Pitt with the kicking game…i dont see why rules should be changed for this..
usa
My only thought is...
…the Cowboys pretty clearly have the best punter in the league. If I’m Jerry, I ask him what he wants to do, especially considering he figures to hold the position for the next few years.
"I love winning." - rockin_rangers, on May 16, 2009
mat said it doesn't bother him at all
so, that’s why it’s a clever little home field advantage for us…well, i think it would be.
usa
If it doesn't bother him...
…then I don’t see a problem. But McBriar is definitely a weapon for the Cowboys; they need to do whatever he needs to be as effective as possible.
"I love winning." - rockin_rangers, on May 16, 2009
yea, McBriar has skills, he doesnt have to just punt the ball really high to do a good job
if you saw him in the game he was using that as he was lining the ball more and getting his little top spin roll ball working… The guy is a very versatile punter
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
Unlike in baseball...
…in the NFL, all fields are supposed to be the same regulation size.
Tropicana Field is seen as a joke because of balls hitting the catwalk. JerryWorld isn’t intended to be a joke.
by Adam J. Morris on Aug 24, 2009 11:17 AM CDT up reply actions
it was built under NFL specs.
The specs are the joke then.
Not sure if you can tell someone to build something within these specs, let them spend, oh, 1.2Bill, and then say, no, you gotta change it now…

I know, I know
It is just Jerry being hassled by The Man.
by Adam J. Morris on Aug 24, 2009 11:28 AM CDT up reply actions
I dunno
but I will say this. I was at the game and almost EVERY punt came close to hitting that thing, even the ones with emphasis on distance rather than height. This is the first time that I can think of the NFL ever having to deal with a stadium issue that can consistently disrupt the play on the field.
yeah
well, im not disputing that. if it’s bad specs, it’s bad specs and the NFL should be taking full responsibility here.
usa
True
If they said it only had to be 100 feet high or whatever, and it is, its on them. I think some fault is to lie with the builders and Jerry as well though. If they were questioning it, better be safe than sorry and raise it a bit more.
Toured the stadium yesterday
They’re installing three motors which will raise and lower the scoreboard. Which means, I think, that it’s their intention to raise and lower the scoreboard as needed, in-game. Per the tour guide (fwiw), the NFL is paying for the upgrade.

On your tour
did you get to see the locker rooms and all that? I’m considering taking one of those, but I have tix to the Giants game so I’m not sure it’s worth it really.

The tours costs $15
And yes, you get to see the locker rooms, pretty much everything. You usually get to go on the field but we couldn’t yesterday due to the installation of the aforementioned motors. It was worth it to me.

How do you take the tour lol?
I’m going to Saturday’s game against the 49ers in Upper Reserved, but I wouldn’t mind paying $15 for a tour.

Just started listening to the podcast.
The early giddyness of AJM & Jamey is obvious.

Think the podcast could become a weekly thing....
…during the season. I hate waiting so long between each one.

This biggest issue
Is scheduling. We’ve talked about doing the show more often before, but committing the time is the biggest road block.
Maybe during the pennant race we can squeeze in a few extra. I’ll have to talk with the boys about that.

I laughed at...
Jamey’s comment that the offense needed to step it up because we can’t keep depending on the pitchers to keep us in the game every night Who’d a thunk a comment like that would ring so true about a Rangers team…
Considering how inept MY was
during the first 3 months of the season at hitting with RISP, I don’t understand all the hype he’s getting now for an outstanding July and August. At best it just sorta evens things out, IMO. MVP my azzzzzzzzz.
Loved it...
at the end of the podcast when Ted was asking about the Rangers MVP the last two weeks and Jamey told Ted to ask AJM first, and it has to be an offensive player.
Nice to see you finally give in and give MY some love AJM. Although you couldn’t do it without taking a few shots at his defense. Baby steps.

And the little bastard threw it for a swinging strike three in a 3-2 count. He’s blessed. And ballsy.
So Rudy is not a big fan of Nelson Cruz
Who was the impetus for Cruz opening up his stance? Did Rudy have any say in his changes? What about Chris Davis’ changes? I foresee a lively debate shortly after the season ends on one Rudy Jaramillo.
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland -Tom Grieve Rangers Minor League Player of the Year

IIRC, Cruz first opened his stance after a midseason trip to AAA in 2007
J.P. can take Roy Halladay and shove him up his ass. I’ll take Derek Holland. - AJM
Rangers can no hit curve ball. Straight ball, they hit it very much. Curve ball, bats are inept.
can we get
josey as a special guest on one of the podcasts? i think that would make for some brilliant hilarity
