So you're saying we should riot.

I think he is avoiding the roster move questions.

What do you expect?
Do you really expect him to say Yes, we will resign Byrd, or No, the contract demand will be too big?
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
I expect him to not answer the question...
I’m not a dumbass. I just think it’s funny that he prefaced his non-answer by saying he was going to answer the question.
What do you mean he didn't answer the question?
He said he wanted Byrd back next year but its too early to tell if thats gonna happen. He also said the budget for next year hasn’t been set so he can’t say how active they will be in free agency. It answered it enough for me at least

They were just talking about that on the ticket
Bacsik was agreeing with some fan who said he wanted Byrd to have a bad september so he would be easier to keep. For being an ex MLBer Bacsik says a lot of dumb stuff about baseball. I love it how he did a segment on how Holland will have to change his mechanics because it is too easy to see the ball out of his hand and then Holland goes on this run. I have personal experience knowing that guy knows very little to nothing about mechanics….

He cleared up the playoff roster question
Players are eligible for the post-season roster if as of August 31st, they’re a) on the active roster, b) on the DL, or c) in the organization and replacing someone else who was on the DL as of 8/31 and is still on it. You can make mid-series changes only for an injury and then the injured player isn’t eligible for the subsequent series. You’re permitted to make changes between series if you advance
Since we have so many pitchers on the DL, both 15 and 60 day, pretty much any of our minor league pitchers would be postseason eligible.
However since we don’t have any position players on the 60 day DL we had to get Davis up here before the deadline for him to be eligible.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Plus it means that Borbon likely won't be getting sent down
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
BMac is still on the DL, right?
And if he is activated to make the second start in a September 1 doubleheader, then what?
by FuturePants on Aug 25, 2009 12:15 PM CDT up reply actions
Then he reinjures himself
in the 3rd inning and goes back on the DL. Haven’t you been watching this movie?
Purgatory's kind of like the in-betweeny one. You weren't really shit, but you weren't all that great either. Like Tottenham.
What does this mean?
c) in the organization and replacing someone else who was on the DL as of 8/31 and is still on it.
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland -Tom Grieve Rangers Minor League Player of the Year
Martin Perez - Nolan Ryan Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year
It means
Someone who isn’t on the 25 man roster on 8/31 replaces someone on the 60 day DL for the postseason.
For example if we wanted to use Madrigal in the playoffs we don’t have to have him up on 8/31. All we’d have to do is put Eric Hurley on the postseason roster and then sub in Madrigal.
You can only do that with like positions so since we don’t have any position players on the 60 day DL whoever is up, or on the 15 day DL and gets better, is our only postseaosn options unless someone gets hurt during the series
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Like seeing Zach Phillips get some love there…

Hmm...you prospect gurus:
Who is Leury Garcia that JD mentioned as a lesser known minor league player that has made significant strides this year?
SS in Spokane I believe
Maybe Hickory. 18 years old I think and a slick fielder

toolsy guy
SS in Hickory. Hasn’t hit much yet, but still young.

I think that response is worth noting/recording
I’ve noted before, Daniels has mentioned names that emerged in a big way afterward. I always think about him talking about Edinson Volquez and Adrian Gonzalez in spring training 2005, about how they didn’t understand how BA didn’t rank both as top 100 prospects. He mentioned Tim Murphy at the Newberg night, I believe.
11:36 [Comment From Agreen07] Can you give us a few lesser known minor league players in the organization that you think have taken significant strides in their development this year?
11:37 Jon Daniels: Tim Smith, Leury Garcia, Tomas Telis, and Zach Phillips have all made strides this year.

Of course sometimes he mentions guys that don't pan out
which is to be expected, given the attrition rate. Eric Fry got a mention a year or so ago but so far it hasn’t translated into much. Smith really seems like a guy to watch next season. He didn’t start baseball as early as most, IIRC, and he’s coming along pretty well.

I think Jamey (who was sitting on stage and could hear better) amended that mention to Tim Smith… I got confused on that, too.

Millwood is obviously pitching hurt, will he option for surgery in the offseason or will he wait like the others until spring training?

What’s his injury? He’ll be surprised to hear that.

Eric’s doing well. Throwing now in Texas. In excellent shape. We expect him to be 100% in Spring Training – it’ll depend on how he feels and how he’s throwing as to whether he’s competing for a job or if we get him back more slowly.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

His first question was nearly the same as the one I sent in, though I asked or prospects whose numbers were poor but impressed anyway. I guess Garcia fits that profile.

What is the rationale behind having Kinsler bat 1st rather than Borbon or even Cruz? Kinsler seems to be better suited as a power hitter, hitting 4-6? Also, great move in not pulling the trigger on Holladay !
Is that the bastard child of Matt Holliday and Roy Halladay?

JD going a lil Jerry on us
Back in March, did you think we would be a game out of the playoffs at this point? Do you think perhaps the manager should get a little bit of credit for that? Look, no one is going to agree with every move made – for any team, by any manager

Ray Lewis won the Super Bowl MVP when Dilfer was QB. Dilfer was on his couch eating Cheetos when Dexter Jackson won it.
