The Rangers play in MLB, fwiw.

I really couldn’t care less how the Oklahoma Redhawks do.

by Texas_Dawg on Aug 25, 2009 5:51 PM CDT up reply actions

He hit there last year, he hit up here last year, he struggled mightily at the beginning of the year this year, and then went back down there to get straightened out. Apparently the Rangers think he’s done that.

When my other option is Blalock, yeah, I’ll take the .327/.418/.521 line at AAA.

by Black Francis on Aug 25, 2009 5:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Really why can't you understand

that Chris Davis is not the same hitter he was in the beginning of the year. That’s like recalling Nelson Cruz’s old mlb statistics before he got called up.

by cashman on Aug 25, 2009 5:55 PM CDT up reply actions

So how well would

Davis have to hit over the rest of the season to admit you were wrong?

by MikeEl on Aug 25, 2009 5:58 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm guessing that he's referring to the fact

That you’re predicting that Davis the rest of this season will be similar to pre-AAA Davis.

by Drew062682 on Aug 25, 2009 6:02 PM CDT up reply actions

OK.

If he is much better than he was in the first half I will acknowledge that and admit I was wrong to think he wouldn’t be. And I hope he proves me wrong and the Rangers make the playoffs because of it.

I just find the Cult of Chris Davis funny, fwiw.

My hand is down

If you told me he’d be playing CF on August 25th, that would be a different question altogether. In neither case do I think its a good thing, though.

Because Byrd has been much better in CF than anybody gives him credit for.

And the coaches are still teaching Borbon how to be an everyday CF’er.

Pattis is working with him on his throws.

Its not so much that his arm is weak (which it sort of is), its that his throws are not consistently accurate due to poor technique.

I am rooting for the Rangers to get a playoff berth

but I disagree with the strategy they are using in getting there. They are acting as though either the month of June didn’t happen or major league teams aren’t going to throw LH pitching at them the rest of the year.

I want Chris Davis to prove me wrong but I haven’t ever seen a player struggle as profoundly or longer than he did the first three months of this season. People in here don’t wanna admit how bad he was or how painful it was to watch him drown. A 1 for 22? A 7 for 60 (with 27K’s)? A 3 for 44 (with 24 Ks)? He enters this game rocking a 4 for 28 with 11Ks.

My gawd, I have never seen a hitter more out of place in the major leagues than Chris Davis in 2009. JD is using Nelson Cruz as an example and LSB is buying it not because it makes sense but because they want to, basically thinking with their hearts instead of their brains.

Players as bad as CDavis was this year aren’t permitted to get 277 plate appearances. Those that get close to what he did, usually don’t recover the next season muchless in the present season.

I want the Rangers to get to the playoffs far more than I want to be proven correct on this issue.

I said the Rangers would be better with Blalock playing every day and was proven correct. The June Swoon ended on a dime and the team somehow found a way to keep the Angels in sight.

I have doubts they will be better (24-15 or more) with CDavis playing every day but let’s hope I’m wrong.

He sometimes is hard to understand because he got Hank F.’s balls in his mouth.

by diamond_dave on Aug 25, 2009 5:45 PM CDT up reply actions

I love Hank too

Errrr….used to, but ever since he turned to garbage he’s a tough man to support…though I do still keep his Ball-ble head doll on my desk at work….mostly due to the Rangers logo though.

by Drew062682 on Aug 25, 2009 5:52 PM CDT up reply actions

As bad as Chris Davis was

…Hank Blalock wasn’t exactly doing much better. If any. They sent the kid down to AAA where he worked on some things and the numbers he put up were more than just solid. After looking at Blalock’s horrible ABs I’m ready to see if a younger player can overcome his sophomore nightmare.

I’m sure that’s the line of thinking that most people have. What is there to disagree with? If you can’t admit Blalock has been horrible I really don’t know what to tell you.

by Black Francis on Aug 25, 2009 5:39 PM CDT up reply actions

I can say that

Ever since 2003 or so, I have had a huge man crush on Hank, but even I have come to grips with the fact that he just sucks….bad. At least with Davis you get a younger player with more upside and better defensive skills.

by Drew062682 on Aug 25, 2009 5:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Even if he sucks as he did early in the year, that is what we have now with

Failock, however with better defense.

Not quite.

Blalock: .238/.274/.473.
Davis: .202/.256/.415.

Blalock’s been pretty bad. Davis, significantly worse.

by Texas_Dawg on Aug 25, 2009 5:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Blalock has hit .193 in the last 30 days, i would bet his OBP is about .198

I thought it be all warm and shitty, but it just tasted like normal beer. It was still cold.

by RA Dickey on Aug 25, 2009 5:55 PM CDT up reply actions

And I could selectively screen you out something from Davis

even lower than the numbers above.

Doesn’t work that way.

You’re talking about Hank RIGHT NOW!!! The way he is CURRENTLY hitting.

It wasn't really selective, it is the current state.

I thought it be all warm and shitty, but it just tasted like normal beer. It was still cold.

by RA Dickey on Aug 25, 2009 6:04 PM CDT up reply actions

Um, you could do the same with Murphy too then.

Slumps happen.

But even then Davis’s full season numbers aren’t any different.

And yeah, it was pretty selective.

by Texas_Dawg on Aug 25, 2009 6:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Selectively screening huh?

It says he’s been a fucking corpse at the plate for a month. It’s not like he’s picking out random weeks. He’s picking out the last four most reason weeks. What is the problem with that?

by Black Francis on Aug 25, 2009 6:06 PM CDT up reply actions

The only player I could think of who was permitted to be worse longer

than Chris Davis was Doug Flynn (as a Texas Ranger / Montreal Expo in 1982).

485 plate appearances with a .225 average / .236 obp.

I’ve looked far and long at players over the last 40 years and haven’t found one who was worse than Chris Davis was this year.

Let’s hope he turns it around because this is a helluva gamble by Little Boy Donuts.

Gamble?

It’s a Gamble to sit Hank Blalock and his “lowest OBP in the AL” on the bench? If Davis doesn’t get a hit the rest of the season, it’s hardly a gamble to bench Blalock.

by Drew062682 on Aug 25, 2009 5:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Sure.

It’s a gamble b/c the person replacing him has been significantly worse in his MLB games this year.

by Texas_Dawg on Aug 25, 2009 6:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Signficantly? Give me a break....

Who is this, Josey’s half-retarded twin brother?

by Drew062682 on Aug 25, 2009 6:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Um, yeah. Significantly.

~40 wOBA points lower over the course of the season.

That’s a significant difference.

You seem to have forgotten how unfathomably awful Chris Davis was the first half of 2009. It was truly historic stuff actually.

by Texas_Dawg on Aug 25, 2009 6:08 PM CDT up reply actions

No, I didn't forget at all.

I watch about 150 games/year, if not more. But at least with CD we can have hope based on SOMETHING. With Hank….he’s hopeless

by Drew062682 on Aug 25, 2009 6:09 PM CDT up reply actions

Don't disagree, but it wasn't his fault they kept him up here.

Looks like he figured things out pretty quickly once he went down. Had to get away from Rudy to learn how to swing I guess.

F

Rudy Jaramillo. Most overrated coach in the history of professional sports.

by Drew062682 on Aug 25, 2009 5:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes....sigh....

Jaramillo has a history of turning Steroid filled ball players in a hitting friendly environment into sluggers who crush fastballs and bad pitching. I’ll admit, I know NOTHING about the mechanics of hitting….but a good buddy of mine from the area plays AAA ball and has spent some (limited) time in the majors. His agent lined him up with Rudy, and he said that it was nothing different than what just about any other hitting coach taught him. I’ll trust his opinion….

worse seasons than Davis 09 before he was demoted

you didn’t look very hard.

There are many players who were permitted to suck worse than Davis did for just as long or longer.

Surely you can’t forget George Wright 1985. Maybe the worst season of anyone with (close to) 400 PA in MLB history.

Even if you just want to limit it to 1st basemen, check out Tony Muser’s brilliant 1976 campaign. He was massively worse than Davis and was given nearly 100 more PAs than Davis had at the time he was demoted.

Wrong.

I am rooting for the team and while I think playing CDavis is the wrong strategy, I will be cheering for him because if he shits the bed as much as he did the first three months of the season, we will need to start thinking about 2010 – and there are no guarantees will be in this position next year or 2011.

You won’t see me doing what was done in here over the last 47 games. The team was winning yet most of the idiots couldn’t enjoy it because I was eventually proven correct (on the exact date no less) and one of JD’s boys was shipped out.

If CDavis shats the bed, This Thing starts to lose and this day becomes known as the beginning of the end, yeah, I’ll probably have an opinion. but make no mistake, I want this team to go 24-15 or better down the stretch.

he got the stop sign because he hesitated at 2nd on a clear single thinking it would be caught.

Yes, I'm retarded.

You caught me, Clever McInsult-Guy.

I’m the most computeriest retard in the world!

It was hard hit, and nearly at the right fielder.

I don’t mind him being conservative in this situation.

Why do you insist on being so dense? Does it make you look better to “bash the rookie”? Get a grip, fuckwad.

I'm not bashing him.

Just pointing out that a rookie mistake cost us 1.

It happens. He’ll learn.

The stop was actually about 2 steps before he got to third and ball was already on way in.

I'm tired of hearing about team chemistry. You are telling me these fuckers wouldn’t like to have a teammate that could actually help the team win, instead of being down 2-4 spots.

what the fuck?

Did you even see the play?

He had no chance to score

This is so weird.

The NY feed on Extra Innings is the only one in HD so I’m watching it as opposed to the Tex feed, but for some reason the feed froze up for a minute and when it came back up it’s now the Yankees’ Spanish announcers, and to top it off the audio is a few seconds ahead of the video, so I get to hear the Spanish announcers get all excited and start yelling jibberish-y in Spanish a few seconds before I get to see what caused his fiery Latin excitement.

It’s a truly bizarre viewing experience.

And that's what happens

when you have Julio Borbon running the bases.

One of the beautful things about Tiny E that I noticed in the spring is how well he ran the bases and Jules Borbon is the exact opposite.

Dumbest baserunner I have seen in a long time.

Give the kid credit for hitting well and hitting into good luck

plus drawing a few walks but a lot of that speed is wasted because he goes brain-dead on the bases.

It’s what I would expect from an 18 year old but not a 22-23 year old that played college plus a couple of years of pro ball.

One more reason they need to fire the Cowardly Cattleman.

A real team president would command respect from his baserunners.

Nolan can eat a dick.
