Perez going for Frisco.
via web.minorleaguebaseball.com
Boscan for Hickory.
Henry going for Spokane.
Roark for Bakersfield.
Doozer for OKC.
According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, the Rangers are sending right-handed relievers Thomas Diamond, Brennan Garr, and Evan Reed, catcher Doug Hogan, infielder Marcus Lemon, and first baseman-outfielder Mitch Moreland (plus an as-yet-unidentified pitcher) to this year’s Arizona Fall League.
Miguel Velazquez (.298/.357/.539) is looking damn good.
Michael "I ain't dead" Main starting for AZL Rangers. Struck out the side in the first inning. Thank you YourNameHere for the heads up.

Christ
Perez has thrown a TON of pitches and he’s not even out of the 2nd yet.

To elaborate...
He’s unable to put people away right now. He’s getting good counts on guys, but they’re just fouling off a ton of pitches.

And as I say that, he gets a swinging strike to end the inning

Thanks for telling me how old he is. I thought he was 26.

Well hes facing guys who are 4+ years older than he is
Complaining about him not being able to put guys away is a little nitpicky IMO

It's true though
He was having the exact same issue with Tulsa. I guess he was just able to work around it against these guys.

good work from Boscan tonight
Great to see him bounce back and post seven really solid innings. Walk free innings.

Ok, I didn't respond to this the first time since it's kind of absurd.
Christ referred to the amount of pitches he had thrown through 1 1/3 innings.
When I said “To elaborate”, I explained why he threw a ton of pitches.
That’s it.

Michael Main...
Per milb.com, it appears that Michael Main will be starting tonight for the Arizona Rangers. Here’s the box.
Scott Baio. Rick Fox. Brian Austin Green. My heroes have always been mediocre.
Greg Golson doesn't do extra base hits.

he is done after one inning. Probably trying to build his stamina back up.

random bullpen thought
Seems the Rangers could really use a lefty killer in the ML bullpen down the stretch.
Just happened to notice that Pedro Strop, who is pitching lights out lately (13.5 k/9, 0 walks in the last 2 wks), has held LHB to a .191 average in his career (.196 this year), with a very nice gb rate (52.4% career, 55.8% this season) to boot.

i have been throwing out the idea
in various threads that he could make sense as a september add because he’ll have to be added this winter anyway, but i hadn’t noticed that jewel of a stat.

he's been one that we've kept hearing "if it all comes together for him"
wouldn’t it something if that time was now. There really isn’t another pitcher that I’d feel great about adding in September. Moscoso and Madrigal – I don’t really see them getting much more than mop up work, but Strop might be somebody that works his way to the ML pen and then into crucial situations pretty quickly. At least that’s what I’m hoping for, cause the pen needs another impact arm, preferably a lefty killer and I think Strop is the best (only) hope that we have for that role.

I think they will have him prove it in OKC first
But, if he can keep his control rate in check, we have dead weight in the big club with Grilli and Jennings.

rosters expand in a week
If he has 2-3 good outings in that time, I’d love to see him added to the forty and the ML pen.

hey great catch
he’s really been pitching alot better, but im not sure when you can really trust this to be for real. You might have to wait til OKC seasons end to get Strop alot of outings in OKC to prove himself

I don't know if I would want to put him in any kind of pressure situation
He struggled mightily at the jump to OKC at the beginning of the year and just now got himself back there. To ask him to jump to the bigs and go into the middle of a pennant race and be put in pressure situations may be a bit much.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him up in September but just not used as a primary setup man or brought in tight game situations

i don't know if it was the "pressure situations" that got to him
or if it was simply the fact that we tried to aggressively start him in AAA when he had only previously pitched a total of seven innings above A ball. to me, he sounded like a kid that knew how to throw more than pitch at the beginning of the season, and hopefully he’s come a long way since then.

ehh, your probably right and I'm probably being way too optimistic
But I think that if a reliever has legit plus stuff and can throw strikes, they can be successful right out of the chute.
These guys are streaky beasts, and Strop is going really well and his stuff is reportedly somewhere between filthy and downright pornographic. I think he is a guy that could possibly make quite an impact for a month down the stretch.

But the Rangers do want to keep the winning MO in Frisco too
Will they bring up someone from the lonely Baks team to supplement for an ace leaving. I think Frisco is only team that is closest to making a playoff run in minors in Ranger Org.

Main puts up tantalizing numbers at AZRL, gets everyone’s hopes up for next season, and then develops Gout and misses all of 2010.

Because he's really young, and there's no need to build up his innings that quickly.

yea, i essentially see AFL as a way to get some extra innings in
or to put a guy who is a borderline prospect in a place where he can be studied very closely. Also, its another way to get closer evaluations of players who might need to be put on the 40 or taken off the 40 (like with TD)

i think theres some confusion here
the AZRL is a rookie league, the AFL is a fall league that usually consists of players at AA or above.
