Marlon Byrd Battling Kidney Stones
OF Marlon Byrd is not in the Rangers’ starting lineup tonight. He is battling an attack of kidney stones. Byrd is currently at a Manhattan hospital. His status for the night and tomorrow’s day game remains uncertain. It’s possible the stone could pass and Byrd could be ready to go before game time tonight.
Get well soon Marlon.
Borbon better be playing and not Murphy.

The 2009 Texas Rangers offense: sigh...

At least it's not...
thoracic outlet syndrome.
"Blalock in the cleanup spot makes gives me agita." - Dustin
lineup
B Ian Kinsler,
3B Michael Young,
CF Josh Hamilton,
RF Nelson Cruz,
DH Ivan Rodriguez,
1B Chris Davis,
C Taylor Teagarden,
LF David Murphy,
SS Elvis Andrus
Explain to me how Warsh is not metally challanged?
No Julio. Our CF of the future never friggin plays there. I know he has a noodle arm(saw it for myself last week in Arlington, and it is not strong at all), but he can play the position. I mean it isn’t like his arm is suddenly going to stronger next year. WTF?!

He hit .277 this year against lefties Murphy .193
"We have a better chance to win with other guys in the lineup," said Blalock, who is hitting .190 the past 30 games. "That’s something I’ve got to deal with."

Wash sometimes just
over thinks things. Borbon should be leading off and Kinsler hitting behind Cruz.

This isn't really overthinking
Overthinking would be looking at the specifics of each game/matchup too much. This is a cookie cutter “no Borbon against lefties” lineup.
The Texas Rangers have been synonymous with explosive firepower ever since they emptied 130 rounds into Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in 1934. - Alyssa Milano
Ding!
I get the matchup issue. However, I think he can hit better than the Murph right now against lefties .190/.269/.532. Those are Hank F. type numbers. Julio’s ability to get on base supercedes the “right” matchup.

Pudge DH?
really?
"I don't condone steroids or any other type of growth hormones or anything else, but I could care less, and, for the most part, I don't think the fans give a (bleep). The people that care about it are the people that probably don't like baseball," - Jim Leyland
I actually like that lineup
I don’t mind seeing Borbon sit against a lefty. I’m not sure he would be substantially better than Murphy right now against a reasonably good lefty in Pettitte. For now, I’m going to give Washington and the Rangers the benefit of the doubt and presume that Borbon sits against lefties to protect his confidence. After all, you want to give him the best possible chance to succeed.
While hitting Pudge at the DH spot might not be ideal, what other options are there right now? With Jones on the DL, the Rangers hoping to safeguard Borbon against lefties early in his career, and Vizquel as the utility infielder, I don’t really think there are other options. Blalock certainly isn’t an option at DH against lefties. Plus, Pudge has an .844 OPS against lefties this season.
I’m also happy to see Davis moved up a bit in the order.

Hey im a big fan of Murph
but he is simply an amazing platoon player. He is not an everyday player. I know borbon has had only one AB against a lefty and struck out (Marte was the second best pitcher during that whole game). However, might as well take the kid gloves off now. The lineup is better with Borbon in it.
08/03/2009 A day that will live in infamy for the rest of the AL West.
he's not an amazing platoon player
he is the definition of a platoon player. the rangers just haven’t had a good platoon player in years, with our last platoon player being ben broussard
baseBALLIN!
Ouch
Kidney stones run in my family (mom, an uncle, and a brother) so I can definitely sympathize with what he’s going through. Get well soon, Marlon…

This, too, shall pass.

If he is in the hospital
then he may have been dealing with them for awhile. Ureteroscopy doesn’t sound very fun.

He probably had the pain last night, and at the Hotel... Went to the hospital late last night when the pain got unbareable, and if they havent passed yet then he made need them to be broken up so they can pass, but its a really easy procedure, no biggy.

Wash said in the pregame
that he woke up this morning with some pain. I think Wash also said that they were broken up and Byrd may be available tomorow.

I guess Byrd must've been watching tape of himself hitting.
Hank is 7 runs below a zombie replacement at first base. Do you realize how terrible that is? Zombie’s can’t think, they’re slow, and they’re often ejected from the game for eating opposing baserunners’ brains. - Ben quantifies Hank Blalock
.281 / .324 / .483 for the season

Hardly worthy of your mockery and sarcasm. Find another target to hate on, or better yet, find something about the team or it’s players to like.

Hey, I didn't say he wasn't productive
Just that he’s a beating to watch hit hack. He and Kinsler are the two most aggrivating hitters on this team to watch (Blalock isn’t aggrivating, he’s just pathetic).
